Yea it's great. Got the reissue from Dark Descent. and there wouldn't be any bickering if you were intelligent to pick up what I said and what was restated to you. I'm only considered an asshole because people like you don't like getting told you are incorrect.

Nah, for other reasons too but let's not waste this topic by enumerating them! I don't want any inflammatory posts for the sake of finding who's the bigger man here, let's get back on track.

I was back on track just restating I'm right. I spoke about Xenomorph though it was had been discussed. and thanks to androdion I checked out that poorly named Brute Chant cause he said it sounded like Wayd though the album came out in 2002 when I finally got some information on it so I'd rail him too if I saw it at that time but it's been awhile since he posted. That band is well worth checking out and I was shocked to find a copy of the cd nevertheless for 5.99

Ha, I guess that answers my question on the "latest purchase" thread. Yeah I know I should've been more attentive to the dates of albums, and I totally get your point.

With that being said I don't think that Brute Chant would fit in the "old school revivalism" thread, as it sounds pretty much as if it was released in the mid nineties regarding production values and overall sound. But I understand why you've been scolding people for a few posts now. Glad you liked it though, it's a pretty cool album. My copy is taking forever to arrive (from Latvia) though... :grumble:

Well I think it could count sorta as a revivalist band... if you were thinking of Jumpin Jesus as a starting point. And upon looking at the artwork and the production I agree I really thought it was from the mid 90's or late 90's but hell i guess based from where they are from... that's some cutting edge art.

I'll probably get my copy before you cause mine is coming I think TN in the US. so I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album I watched some of their live tracks as well and I can tell there is more weirdiness to be had. So regardless thank you greatly!

I see where you're coming from with the Jumpin Jesus comparison, never thought of it that way but it surely seems like something of an evolutionary step right there. I really like how the singer sounds like a rawer Ross Dolan, and their bassist is one really crazy motherfucker! I think you'll enjoy the entire album since it's very cohesive throughout its running time, since you liked the few songs that are available online.

Yea I listened to them and read the reviews on here. and from the live vids... the bassist pretty much looked like I figured he would... which was a music nerd with short hair and thick glasses... what threw me was the Brujeria shirt.

I love these kinds of threads...some awesome stuff being posted. Keep it up!

Like Mortification, they have some (gasp) Christian themes in their lyrics, but if you want an OSDM gem, this is it:

One awesome obscure death metal band I recommend is Unearth (no, not the metalcore band, the death metal band from New Mexico):

I just listened to a Crimson Thorn track in YouTube and I cannot believe how different it sounds from the one I heard few years ago, which had utterly disappointed me.

And fuck, Unearth is some intense shit!

I don't know if Swazafix has been mentioned but they released a couple demos in the early 90s which were re-released as a single compilation in 2013. They play a pretty heavy chugging form of thrash/death metal. Think Malevolent Creation, and Asphyx with a vocalist along the lines of Chuck, Van Drunnen, and Tardy. Their vocalist/guitarist was involved with Asphyx.

One of my friends is selling his Canker on discogs for 100+ euros. As far as I know, it usually sells for much, much less on ebay. It's a good album though, I can't believe I missed it in that shop where he picked it up.

Sacrofire - Symphonies...

Strange band, hard to find any info on them. Not even the bandmembers are mentioned in the booklet. I suppose it was an American band, because it was recorded there. But the label was German. Anyways, another overlooked work of old death metal with some doom/death leanings ala early Paradise Lost and that kind. Nothing really mindblowing, but definitely worth it if you're running out of new titles to hunt down. And this one hasn't even become a high priced collector's item yet. You can easily pick it up cheap on ebay.

I'd have to keep it mind and hope it shows up. Def not up on ebay currently, but this is just what I like. Something I haven't heard, sounds good and might be easy to get without bleeding out the nose to get.

Not sure if this Mercyless album has been mentioned, and I have seen Abject Offerings in this thread IIRC.

Some circles consider Abject Offerings a classic old school DM album, but Mercyless really shined on Coloured Funeral. Album was supposedly recorded by Colin Richardson. The vocals sound a little like Steve Tucker at times, but better. Definitely worth a mention in this thread.

Thanks for posting this, it has that mid-90's Greek atmosphere to it which I love. I might have to track this one down. I also find it hilarious that every single one of the song titles are ripped off from other bands (in order: Bathym, Corpus Rottus, Dissection, Incantation and Varathron).

Now here is one that I know hadn't been meantioned in here and I was just informed about

Dead Youth... yea terrible name but it's your standard OSDM but with a few more grind influences in it

This is from their 2nd album. Their first one I couldn't find any tracks from but I bought both albums this morning.

Let's bring up another one:

Image

Inquisition - Krank

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HjbEpWmfe0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PST0M4oD0jo

A hidden obscurity from the Austrian underground. The Austrian scene really had some overlooked and rather strange bands.
Anyway, this is a peculiar mix of Death and Doom metal. Lots of twisted riffs and use of keyboards, and heavy as fuck from time to time. Not your typical OSDM.
Definitely worth checking out if you're into other European oddballs from the mid 90's like Cadaverous Condition, Sinoath, Phlebotomized, Dark Millenium, Pyogenesis etc.
It was released first on tape in 1995, but the local label NSM quickly picked it up and gave it a wider cd release.

Infernal Torment - Man's True Nature (1995)
Image

Brutal death from Denmark in the oldschool variety. The bass is quite high in the mix which is cool.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kVrW-3FktA

Eternal Dirge - Morbus Ascendit (1992)

Excellent Oldschool tech/progressive death. Apologies if either of these are reposts but I have been playing them a lot lately.

Yeah, that Danish band sure was gritty!

For when a reissue of that Eternal Dirge dare I ask. I know it was supposed to be reissued by some small label, but apparently that never came to be. Shame though, since people ask obscene sums for it (as in bordering on 100€).

crypt-stench mid-paced death metal from greek .
Unfortunately they put out only a demo and a split 7" ep with In Quest, but their potential was really high.

Buried Beneath - The Last Rays of the Moon

Image

US blackened death metal...This comes from their only cd release - a compilation from 1998 with tracks from their early 90's period.
Perfect blend of typical 90's US blackened death metal with lots of creepy keyboards. It's hardly known, so it's still relatively easy to find for few dollars.
