Quote:
Dublin based true Doom trio, DREAD SOVEREIGN, has unveiled details of their upcoming full length debut album. Following on from last year's critically acclaimed 12" release entitled "Pray To The Devil In Man", the band headed to the studio last autumn to work on the follow up release. The resulting ten track beast of a record entitled "All Hells Martyrs" will be released via Ván Records in March 2014.

Vocalist and bass player, Nemtheanga commented: “Things come together fast on the surface but the DREAD SOVEREIGN album has been dwelling in my subconscious for years, playing riffs to myself over the years. It's only in the last 15 months that I've put flesh on the bones with a proper band and here we are with an album ready for Ván Records to release. The aspirations are difficult to explain as it's been a form of catharsis to finally get the demons out after all this time but here it is; some gnarled and evil old school Doom Metal - a few surprises and different elements here and there - but nothing more and nothing less".

Recorded and mixed at Dublin's Sun Studios in September 2013, "All Hell's Martyrs" is a sepulchral trawl through the darkest recesses of Heavy Metal. The album artwork was created by Costin Chioreanu whose previous credits include GRAVE, DARKTHRONE, AURA NOIR and ABSU.

"All Hells Martyrs" tracklisting:

01. "Drink The Wine"
02. "Thirteen Clergy"
03. "Cthulu Opiate Haze"
04. "The Devil’s Venom"
05. "Pray To The Devil In Man"
06. "Scourging Iron"
07. "The Great Beast"
08. "We Wield The Spear Of Longinus"
09. "Cathars To Their Doom"
10. "All Hell’s Martyrs, Transmissions From The Devil Star"

Artwork:

That artwork alone gives me instant boner wonder how good the album will turn out.

Yup, digging the hell out of that artwork. Will check this out based on the artwork alone, which is a huge nod to the artist.

Goodo, it took a disgustingly long time for the EP to become easy to find online, but its good stuff and I'm excited to hear a full album of it.

Awesome! Can't wait to hear it! Averill can't fail.

The artwork reminds me of the sigil of House Bolton in ASOIAF/Game of Thrones. That's a good thing since they're freaking evil.
Spoiler: show

I actually wasn't too impressed with their ep so I am hoping the new material on this full-length will be stronger. I would really like to love this band, they've got a neat aesthetic to them. Either way, I'll be checking this out.

Dread Sovereign might be the most awesome band name I've ever heard. I have nothing more to add. Carry on!

I'm SO glad that 13 Clergy is on there, but yeah, they probably could have taken at least one off and gone with an 8 or 9 track album. At the end of the day, who really cares.

My thoughts exactly! And the name itself kind of sums up my thoughts about them. Their influences are obvious and they're not doing anything overtly original, but they approach their music and lyrical themes in such a reinvigorating way that it feels new and unique.

I love this band. From the moment I heard Thirteen Clergy to the Flames I knew Nemtheanga had struck something special. He's aced the themes and visual representations, and has got great music to boot. All these Early Modern period, Puritan, witchcraft, as well as ancient history topics have been done before, but Dread Sovereign (so far with their ep) have tackled them in a fresh and no-nonsense manner. Based on the song titles and excellent artwork I can only assume this will carry over on the full-length.

The ep had a great old-school sound on par with the riffing, and Nemtheanga's vocals were brilliant as always. I'm not one to worship one particular musician and consider everything they touch gold, but it seems Alan Averill has discovered the secrets of alchemy!

Track 3 surfaced. Quite atmospheric in a Celtic Frost-ish way. But a bit overlong. I guess a minute or two could easily be chopped off. Nonetheless, fairly decent song.

Official release date is March 21st.

Thanks to these two preview tracks, my interest in this album has been amped up. Considerably. It went from "side project or whatever" to "mandatory buy."

I really would like to hear what they did to "13 Clergy". That was an awesome song on the EP.

Indeed. Quite crunchy and acidic. I liked it but still the same problem prevails with this one as well. They just dragged it on without employing much striking variations.

Cathars To Their Doom eh? Well fuck me, that was pretty damn good. This "project" having ZOM's guitarist involved has me doubly interested. I have gone from being mildly interested (and keeping an eye on this) to definitely buying this. Ván Records has some fucking cool shirts for sale too...

Oi, thanks for sharing that! I would grab one of them immediately if only Vans had other cool merch for me to make a slightly big order. I'll bookmark that for now. Cheers.

Did they resurrect the corpse of Ozzy Osbourne to sing the opening lines of that song?

First thing I did was listen to Thirteen Clergy. I like the EP version a lot more, I have to say. The first recording is more energetic overall, faster, maybe a little more raw, and I like the vocals better too.

I did the same exact thing and have the same exact opinion. :grumble:
Hopefully the rest of the album will make up.

I'm only on 13 Clergy thus far, but I have to agree, EP version was better, his silly vocals were cooler there and the sharper guitar tone made that verse riff bite a fair bit more. Chorus sounds wonderful though.

Me too. I haven't heard the EP properly so I can't really critique on the songs and their comparisons, but this shit is solid! I'm definitely gonna order this and the tshirt once I get my March salary!

I was gonna check it out but the song lengths scared me off. I can't do ten minutes of stoner fuzz. Damn. I really liked that band name and cover art too.

The album is pretty decent. Not as awesome as the artwork I'm afraid.
