Who gives a FUCK if hipsters like them or not? Jesus Christ, I swear one of the reasons I prefer punk these days is because metalheads are (generally) so fucking up their own arses. Elitist as fuck.

You've completely missed the point, and your reaction was hysterical. Thanks for the laugh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some Post-Punk album suggestions based on Z0MBIE's list:
Current 93: Lucifer Over London
Marc & the Mambas: Untitled
Pulp - Freaks
The Wedding Present: Tommy (a singles collection)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quote:
I am looking in getting into Crust Punk, but I have no idea where to start.

It's hard to offer suggestions since I don't know what you like or would be looking for in "Crust". The style has evolved so much over time. I'd like to suggest starting from the beginning with Anarcho-Punk, specifically Crass Records bands, personally. (Stations of the Crass is an excellent record by the label's namesake band).

If you have any inclinations towards old school Grindcore, I must second/third/fourth Disrupt. They wipe the floor with Dystopia as far as I'm concerned (and I like Dystopia). Warsore is another excellently bonkers, pissed off Crusty Grindcore band.

Also, for the old school English stuff, Napalm Death's "Hatred Surge" is essential listening if you haven't heard it already.

Looking for dark and melodic punk. Something in the vein of Adolescents more serious stuff I guess. Not looking for crust/[modern]hardcore. I guess a good example would be "Kids of the Black Hole" by the adolescents. 80's, 90's or current is fine rough vocals is cool too, just don't want Crust or d-beat.

Opened for Adolesecents on time, shit was rad.

Not serious lyrically but the band that instantly came to mind was The Spits, who I love.

Volume II and III are my favorites personally but it's all good.

You might also try stuff like Angry Samoans, little more upbeat I guess but kinda the same vibe maybe

Maybe Agent Orange?

Looking for ultra raw ''wall of noise'' style D-beat.

Think something like Disclose but even more raw while still able to hear everything going on.

This Giftgasattack song is the perfect example i can give:

Haha also Framtid (by their name), reminded of the 80s norwegian hardcore punk band ''Svart Framtid''.

I'd recommend checking it out if you have not heard. ;)

Any d-beat bands that actually sound like Discharge on Hear Nothing LP? Its got a really unique guitar and bass tone and d-beat bands tend to just overly distort things or sound too thin.

First and foremost I would like to second Nails. Awesome live, awesome on record.

Almost all of the straight up hardcore punk I listen to is from the '80s. It would be cool if someone could throw me some recs for some recent (somewhat) traditional hardcore that slays.

These all vary in style, generally I like my 80's hc fast and raging so that's what a lot of it will be. Neighborhood Brats rules and is more mid-paced. Gas Chamber is noisy as fuck and has some wild bass lines. Dernier Combat wants to be Poison Idea. Murder Suicide Pact sounds like Black Flag. Tenement is pop-punk noise worship and is super rad. Night Birds is more mid-paced too. Hope you find something cool in there.

Are there any progressive/atmospheric screamo/post hc bands?
I'd cite examples but I don't know any.
I'd like lengthy songs, I'know, feely stuff. Anyone knows?

Shameless plug for my band, just dropped an album.

I guess just straight up hardcore/metalcore as far as sound goes.

Enjoy!

There are a lot of bands like this out there, but it's not a sound I'm super into. Check these out though:

Gospel - The Moon is a Dead World
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf6FOrG1wYA

Elder - s/t
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqsT7PFu63w

Circle Takes the Square - As the Roots Undo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtmQKOOZnlM

Breathing Walker - s/t (not very similar to the other three, but very progged out old school emo with violins)

@don'tlivefast and Apex, sorry guys but just about everything there fell under the "decent, but not all that memorable" category for me. Last Words was pretty good (although I'm not sure I could take a whole album of those vocals), but they aren't really what I asked for anyway. Maybe I'll just stick to the '80s stuff.

Since I'm here I'll leave this sweet live video

So I've been going on an emotive pop-punk kick lately (a style that highschool me would have NEVER imagined me getting into). I'm still a little particular with a lot of the stuff I've heard, so it may be hard to pinpoint exactly what I want. Essentially I'm looking for songs of this style that build and reach a climax with a TON of emotion. Perfect examples;

Turnover - Wither
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7kaLkgdSMY
From the 2min mark on, and especially at 2:30. Truly beautiful.

The Menzingers - The Obituaries
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI7H4gfrzPo
At around 1:40 and again at 2:40 when the singer starts singing "I will fuck this up! I fucking know it!" Filled with so much angst, and sincerity. It really speaks to me on that sort of level.

Thank you!

Nausea (NYC) could sound pretty Amebix-like at times, in their sludgier moments. I'm really not an expert on that side of crust because most of the stuff I've listened to is more death/grind/doom influenced.

Yes, if you like Amebix, you'll probably like Nausea.

Anyone here into No Means No? After my brother kept telling me to check it out, I listened to "Wrong" and it was great. They seem to have a lot of releases out, what would be the next best record to go try out next?

I'm really loving Skitsystem right now, anyone got any similar bands that utilize endless fast d-beats and semi-raw production? I'm not really familiar with punk and all so "obvious" stuff is welcome.

whether he missed the point or not, he's both correct and incorrect, tho. there are elitists in every counter-culture. i'd go so far as to say that there are actually more hoity toity elitist types in punk(especially crust and chaos punk) than metal. there are obviously various glaring intellectual fluctuations in the arguments; for example, the other day a crusty said that, "bad religion are a bunch of posers because they play their instruments too well. vocal and guitar harmonies have no place in punk".
it's pretty hard to hate br for using complex harmonies when you're parading tragedy around like they're the-end-all-be-all of hardcore.
generally speaking elitism is so common that it's not even worth mentioning.

the ocean, they're more metalcore now, and they've always had more than a little sludge and no screamo influence, but they are prog/atmospheric sludge/post hardcore which fits the majority of your request.. you might like them. i'm not super in emotive/screamo/post hc bands so that's really the best i can do.

you might also try kowloon walled city which is weird hardcore/sludge, but again i don't know if it'll hit the nail for you.

Have you checked out Zygote and Bad Influence? Zygote was basically Amebix with a different bassist (Tim Crow), playing a slightly less intense version of the Amebix sound. Bad Influence was Tim Crow's hardcore/crust band after Zygote, and faithfully carries on the legacy of his former bandmates.

Edit:

Plus there's a whole host of Japanese Amebix clones, Acrostix, Effigy and Zoe being some that spring to mind.
