I have heard Legion of the Damned`s and Lvcyfire`s latest efforts. Not much I know. I think Lvcyfire`s latest is pretty fucking good and well worth a listen if you are into that particular style of death metal.

I'll need to give Lvcifyre a few more listens for sure, my first listen in full was half boring and half awesome so I'm interested in peeling back some layers to improve that split.

Well this full length just came out and it's sounding great! Lovecraft-inspired death metal.

Skullfist has some strange vocals, but still pretty good. I was actually a bit surprised at how I the Persuader one, it has some really great momnents.

Iskald, that's some news to me, I heard their other one back in 2011 and can't remember too much of it, but this one hold my interest throughout all the listen :D

Yeah that vocal effect is really strange. It makes the album sound a lot poppier. It'll probably grow on me, but they shouldn't have processed Jackie's vocals the way they did.

I remember hearing a song of theirs a few years ago and had them on my list of bands to check out. I was interested in this new album but that auto tune completely kills it, very disappointing.

Aenaon - Extance

Aenaon has come up with another very impressive Progressive Black Metal album. I hesitate to call it Avant-garde because the tag makes me think of jumpy circus music-like metal. The sound here is very much rooted in Black Metal.
The pace of the music ranges from blistering speed to mid paced Rock-ish sections to slow Jazzy parts, but the transitions are seamless and the music remains very cohesive. They even incorporate tastefully done saxophone solos.

Holy shit. I'd forgotten to check their bandcamp. That song, wow. Yeah, I'd say it's incredible, too. Definitely something people need to hear.

Just made the mistake of buying the album. That track is the only one worth hearing :( two other okay tracks, then a 12 minute doom jam that's beyond boring followed by an EIGHT MINUTE piano outro track. What a mess.

Honestly I have no idea what you guys are excited by in that song, really boring, generic riff for three and ahalf minutes, generic melody for a few seconds, more tedious riff. Total snoozefest.

yeah, gave the new Avichi a listen last night, and was pretty disappointed also. Couple of decent tracks in the middle but the final track is just plain boring and useless.

I'll stick to listening to the new Innsmouth some more, real quality right there. Fucking brilliant stuff.

Innsmouth is seeming pretty cool, reminds me of Sacriphyx with the whole "heavy metal but deathend" vibe, but it's quite a bit more showy, melodic and fun than that.

Domains - Sinister Ceremonies

This is mostly mid-paced Blackened Death Metal filled with riffs that instantly get stuck in ur head, thundering drums, catchy solos and a vocalist that sounds like a deeper, underanged John Tardy.
Great debut.

Some really excellent releases so far. Some of the best coming from Greece, what the hell is up with that country?

Hail Spirit Noir - Oi Magoi
Murmur - Murmur
Aenaon - Extance

Three terrific progressive black metal albums. Or rather progressive black metal bands, each album has varying degrees of black metal, from little to pervasive.

Hymns - Hymns

Guitar tone reminds me of Nattens Madrigal, although the album has a more modern feel to it. Great stuff.

Lvcifyre - Svn Eater

Monster of an album. The title track is bound to suck you in immediately. Death metal tinged black.

The new Rogash album, Supremacy Undone, is some pretty kick ass Death Metal.

Most of the album is pretty high speed while they do change things up and throw in some mid-paced tempos as well. If you like tons of riffs, this one is a winner. I'm really digging the production they've gone with - it's loud and sort of slick, while still retaining the rawness of OSDM. My only gripe is that there are 14 tracks on the album, but 2 of those tracks are the intro and outro along with 2 songs clocking in under 2 minutes.

LOL

I'll try this one later.

I've heard the new Hail Spirit... it was pretty cool, better than the first one, which I couldn't finish the whole album.

Lvcifyre's Svn Eater is indeed very good, the only thing that I didn't like of that album, is the length of the first track, I almost stopped to listening to it, it took ages to finally end, but after that no complaints.

Just finishing the new Primal Fear and it sounds pretty good, at least comparing to their other last 2. It has some good solos here and there and overall the album is very enegertic.

The Ash Eaters - Nothing Is Real
Periphery - Clear EP (i know i know...)

that's all for now.

this. I thought exactly the same thing, it strolls along for an age and isn't what I'd call a great album opener. But from then on it is really good.

Corpsessed's new one sounds awesome from first listen, looking forward to giving that one more spins

alright so i just registered here cause i have a total soft spot/guilty pleasure for that Mechina - Xenon release.

i used to be a primarily doom/drone/stoner/sludge head, but have recently acquired a test for tech death/brutal, and i'm particularly interested in this hybrid sci-fi/tech death sound/aesthetic, ala Wormed, and i really don't mind a bit of symphonic thrown in there, as is the case with the Mechina album.

i kinda have a soft spot for the anthemic/soaring clean vocal touches too. anyway, you guys know of anything in a similar vein?

rock on

Anyone else heard Tempel - On the Steps of the Temple? If you don't know about it, it's instrumental doom/post-metal and it's really good. Reminds me of Russian Circles at times.

This album came out in 2012. Really frustrating that labels are picking up these popular Bandcamp bands, making their content unavailable then setting an arbitrary "release date" in the future and upping the price (I think I bought this for $4 in August 2012). Relapse did the same thing with Primitive Man last year.

I see. Sucks that labels do that but at least the band gets more promotion.

A few weeks back, I stumbled upon a band called Rintrah from Tennessee. They play stoner metal / rock with a lot of psychedelic and progressive touch ups. They released their debut full length this year and I was completely floored by the music on this record. Lot of layers and amazingly trippy.

Do check them out if you're a fan of the genre.

Calm down. He was right to tell you to use the Recommendation forum since your post was a request.

Anybody heard that album? http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Cu ... ths/398688

I wasn't insane about it but it's decent black/doom. The production is quite cold and dissonant but I think they're not riffy enough.

Graveborne's got a pretty solid new album out called Through the Window of the Night. I've been on a huge Finnish Black metal binge again lately and this band brings something a bit different to the usual Finnish beats, almost reminds me of Gorgoroth at times-if anyone knows what I mean by the "chugs" (not sure if that's an accurate term, but that's sort of how I hear them) that they used especially on Incipit Satan, there's a bit of that on here-which I've always been partial to.

Yeah, the Graveborne album is pretty cool. They may be Finnish but they're definitely playing Swedish-style bm, which Gorgoroth plays as well. The "chugs" you're referring to is the heavy use of palm-muting.

Culted did nothing for me, the riffs were too bouncy and jovial for doom, and the production too mechanical and sterile.

Accept's got one coming. http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/accept ... mTZk5be.99

ACCEPT is planning to enter the studio in February to begin work on the follow-up to 2012's "Stalingrad". Helming the CD once again will be British producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, EXODUS, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY), who worked on "Stalingrad" and the band's critically acclaimed comeback effort, "Blood Of The Nations". A late 2014 release via Nuclear Blast is expected.

Also on the black metal tip, Slagbjorn's Mørkt og Jævlig is listed as coming out in "January 2014" but with nothing more specific. I can't find anything too helpful on the Darker Than Black FB page.

Listening to it right now and about half way through. I enjoy it but it isn't anything mindblowing. It is quite soft, almost trance inducing though still not post-black or anything. There are some very memorable parts. Maybe it will grow on me with repeated listens.

So what's the opinion on the new Corpsessed? There was a reasonably big hype about the new album given the artwork and samples etc.

It has an utterly incredible guitar tone, about half the riffs are great and all the Finndeath leads are brilliant... when I put it that way I should like it way more, it is still my favourite of the year, but I don't think it'll make my end of year list.

Ah yeah THAT TONE! Well, that was my initial worry thinking that there wouldn't be more to the album than the finndeath equivalent of stoner/sludge tone worship. But if the riffs and leads are good as you say, then I'm sure it slays. Will check it out soon.

There is a decent amount of tone worship from time to time which is what leaves me a bit cold on it. The passages of that sort of stuff seem to be restricted to individual tracks too, which I guess keeps the songs more consistent in approach and concept, but when they do decide to slow stuff down and just murk around it drags pretty hard since it's not broken up much or at all, I think (I've only listened a few times, not that good on track names yet) "Sovereign" is an example of that sort of thing. But the flip side of that is the songs where they want to riff out like crazy are just non-stop death metal brilliance through and through, so I guess it's a positive in its own way.

Myocardial Infarction – Revitalization Of The Perniciousness
this is one of the very best slam brutal death metal albums I've ever heard, and I've heard a whole lot. dont miss out on this. killer slams, killer vocals, killer tone, and almost perfect mix, great riffs, fantastic drummer/drumming. and this is never boring, which some hardcore slam bands/albums are. it's amazing to have a release this powerful so soon. hell yeah. all 40mins of it are on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwVRxfnSkW0 clearly, this is highly recommended.

Corpsessed - Abysmal Thresholds
very impressive atmospheric death metal or dissonant or whatever it's called. it has it's own identity which i think is very important in this blossoming subgenre. it's a little short though... you kinda really get 100% into it and then it ends.

Indian - From All Purity
crushing. just fucking crushing. it's an onslaught of oppression. i don't think it will diminish as the rest of the year goes on. i expect quite the opposite.

I'm loving the hell out of the Dutch black metal debut - Dromers by Fluisteraars. It's like early Drudkh with some more upbeat, punkish influences.

Shroud of the Heretic's debut full length is absolutely monstrous. An exemplary effort in the realm of sinister, morbid death metal with deep, churning tremolo riffs. It's much like Incantation, but less spiteful and more melancholic even.

Note how I didn't use the term cavernous. :P
