I do remember in a Killjoy interview he said they recorded those dual vox "live" so that they were both in the booth at the same time, "dueling like warlocks" by candlelight, which I've always thought was a cool image -- and probably more promising than Wurdulak turned out to be. Eh, they have their moments.

Drautran's Throne of the Depths lists two vocalists: if I'm hearing them right, one guy is a little more high pitched, almost hysterical like Steeve Hurdle on Obscura, the other sort of barks. Whatever the case, the album is a blend of Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk and Hunengrab im Herbst, and despite that sounding like the best thing ever, it comes off a little blurred and underwhelming. The music has this maelstrom effect that makes it hard to tell what exactly is going on anyway. This song is probably the most straightforward:

I would think obvious choices include Lustre and Hypomanie. Sun Devoured Earth and Lost Inside may be of relevance as well. Tend to find a lot of that stuff that starts mixing in the shoegaze element leans more to being upbeat, or at least offering glimmers of hope in between extended periods of misery.

ColdWorld being upbeat made me smile, especially with the album titled Melancholie. Great material for sure though. One of the best "snow metal" (as I come to call it) albums out there.

I am looking for a few different types of symphonic black metal:

1. Symphonic/epic black metal along the lines of Xanthochroid. I really like the use of keyboards and clean vocals in the song. Another of the pig pluses for me was that you can understand what they are screaming pretty easily.


2. Symphonic black metal along the lines of Nokturnal Mortum, nothing that is too synthy though, I like how NM outweighs the synth with metal.


3. This is still symphonic but it this band does it a lot differently that NM does so I thought it needed its own number.

Now that was fun. Something completely new every minute or so without it sounding like experimental wankery. Definitely picking up this whole album.

Oh man, this is actually really good? The vocals're distinct enough to make the moments when they shriek together sound really kinda grand. Hoest's only there for that one track, though, which is a shame. Actual music's good enough that I might listen to the whole EP sometime, though.


And this....ain't doing it for me at all. Nice try, though!! That main riff's really odd to me, and it's offputting. Vocals aren't really my thing either, barely tell the difference between them and their general style's just too aggressive and almost punky at times for me.


This's far better, I think! I prefer the wintry feel of the music compared to the last rec, and the different vocalists are actually pretty distinguishable, and I like their styles a lot. Might actually check these guys out further, it'd make for some pretty nice snow music!


Somehow I missed the 'their black metal's pretty traditional, but' of your rec, and expected some crazy Sigh-like avant-garde shit, but this is actually really pretty cool without that expectation. It's progressive, but it's not total wankery, like narsilianshard said, which is reaaaally nice to hear. Got a really nice infernal, twisty atmosphere going on, to the point I was about to say 'it sounds almost like French bm' before I checked that they, uh, actually are French. Lovin' this too.

Hey guys, I do like me some Black Metal, but not much versed about the genre.
I listened to this EP some years ago, and always waited for their full lenght, which never came
As there are no signs it will come out soon, I decided to ask here about any possible similar band;

I'll try to decribe the sound I'm looking for in a few words (maybe this will help any possible recommendation):
It's some mix of Technical Death Metal and Symphonic Black Metal, the songs are full of climaxes, the lyrics are about higher cosmical planes and occultism.

Every couple of months I get the urge to listen to something like this, but these are the only three songs I know. Hope you guys are more versed about this style than me! Thanks!

The Black Metal part of this really fits my request, but I don't get the same feel about Death metal influences on this one. Maybe it's missing the death metal growls, dunno. Maybe also the lack of proheminent synth strings (tough the synth brass sounds really epic).

Anyone here familiar with Children of Maani's Veil of Osiris? it was found by a Blut aus Nord member who handles all instruments there. He only released an EP but it's really good to me. There's some really nasty riffs on it and the leads have an obscure feeling to them. The whole thing has a space-sort of vibe to the music and I wish there was more material by this band.

I love this EP. It's one of Vindsval's side projects. The riffing is razor sharp but it has this weird distortion that makes it sound kind of spacey (obscure is a great way to describe it). I haven't heard anything else quite like it and I wish he'd go back to it.

Cult Mexico black metal with incredible, unique riffs and melodies. Their full-lenght is a masterpiece that every bm fan should hear imo. Highly recommended.

Blasting war black/death metal, they even have some traditional bits here and there. One of the most well known mexican extreme bands.

Argentum! They play mystic, ritualistic doom/black metal. Not really heavy but full of majestic atmosphere.
