Well we know theres thousands of bands doing ww2 lyrics but i honestly can't recall ww1 lyrics, which i find more interesting then ww2 due to the advances in technology during it and stuff.

Looking more for death, heavy/power/speed or thrash, maybe black metal if its good.

I'm sure you already know about Iron Maiden's "Paschendale"?

That song is so epic. I'll add "The Aftermath" to that list, by the same band. It's not as specific, but it's definitely a song about WWI and it's a dark one.

Decaying's album, Encirclement. Has songs about Verdun and the Somme.

You forgot Bolt Thrower. ;)

And yeah I will second Decaying. They are in the same style as Bolt Thrower though they are not as intense.

Bolt Thrower. Look up the album named Those Once Loyal.

Sabaton has some good songs about WWI. Cliffs of Gallipoli, Angels Calling, and The Price of a Mile.

Probably my favorite subject matter.

Lots of Sabaton songs of course. Bolt Thrower's TOL and yeah, Decaying has some but they are just too much of a poor man's Hail of Bullets for me.

God Dethroned's last 2 albums "Passiondale" and "Under the Sign of the Black Cross" are absolutely mandatory. Both masterpieces with great lyrics and atmosphere.

There's lesser known ones like Engorge which I've never found that has one called "Their Names Liveth Evermore" about WWI.

And Torchbearer's "Warnaments" is an album about Jutland, I believe.

Lots of black metal bands deal with it. Try out Operation Winter Mist. Not my cup of tea style wise but very WWI savvy.

Skyforger's 2nd album "Latvian Riflemen" is an excellent WWI-based album, dedicated to the many Latvians who fought and died for the Russian army against the Germans. Musically, it's thrashy pagan black metal.

Dismember - Europa Burns is about WWI.

Definitely going to second God Dethroned. Especially Under the Sign of the Iron Cross.

You really need to check out Sacriphyx's Western Front if you haven't already. WWI themes coupled with brilliant black/death metal.

Yeah Sacriphyx is pretty awesome. The review for the album describes it well that it contains a heavy Hellenic sound. Reminds me of Rotting Christ in places.
