No wallabys or anything exotic like that. A lot of insect stings/bites, but most of us have had these. Almost would have been cool if a wallaby had come at me. Like most people on here, aggressive, unleashed dogs have always been my nemesis.

What always fries me is that, often times when someone's unleashed dog goes batshit crazy on me for no apparent reason other than maybe it didn't like the logo on my Celtic Frost t-shirt (or whatever), the owner will say something like "oh sorry, he NEVER does that." Which I always know is bullcrap, because I bet he has to tell people that at least two or three times a week.

Even worse, when the dog owner gets mad at YOU because his dog attacks you. Like it's your fault. "You're not supposed to be in this neighborhood! You don't live around here!" one guy told me when his German Shepherd charged at me from half a block away. Another guy threatened to kick my ass when his 100 pound "puppy" German Shepherd charged me from across the park, after I kicked at him to avoid being mauled. "You kicked my dog and he's only a PUPPY! I ought to kick your ass!" he yelled. So, like, either I let his 100 pound, three foot high big ass German Shepherd utterly mangle me, or get my ass beat by this frickin' redneck. I ended up just tearing off on my bike- I was like 15 at the time and not much of a match for either the dog or the owner. Man, now I'm getting all pissed off just remembering this stuff. Ive been actually bitten, two or three times by black Labradors, who wouldn't even give a warning bark- I would just walk or ride by, the dog doesn't even appear to give me a second thought, but the next thing you know the damn thing has sunk it's teeth into my leg.

Yeah, I was told the same - it's more of a precautionary thing than anything else. I took the dog that bit me to an emergency vet so they could scan it for a microchip (it had one so I assume it's back with its owner now). One of the vet nurses told me that they had a vet nurse working there that got bitten by a dog, and didn't get it treated because it was only a couple of little nicks. She ended up needing 3 surgeries on her wrist to try and get rid of the infected tissue.

It really is horrible to get bitten by a dog, but in my case I know I had it coming. I'd be genuinely upset if a dog just up and bit me without much warning.

Shitty owners like that guy genuinely piss me off. I'm 99% sure that, aside from a few exceptional circumstances, behind any aggressive dog is a dickhead of an owner who hasn't socialised his dog properly and/or mistreated it.

I just think dogs shouldn't be let off the lead in populated areas full stop. I've never been bitten, but I remember cycling through a small wooded area when I was a kid and a woman was yelling to me from a distance to stop where I was while she connected the lead back on to her rottweiler's collar. I cycled past them slowly and the fucker was growling and staring at me with deathlust eyes. So, I avoided being mauled because she happened to notice me/I happened to notice her warning me? Fuck off.

Though my main issue with letting them off leads is that I've had to run onto a busy road to save some old guy's dog before and I've known too many people who have ran over dogs and it simply wasn't their fault. Must be absolutely gutting to be the guy that ran over someone's dog. Even the other day I saw some woman cycling through a busy supermarket car park with her dog running alongside her/ahead of her/wherever the fuck it felt like running. No common sense...

While I love the idea of having a well-trained dog that I can take with me off-leash when hiking or something, I'm inclined to agree with you. There seem to be too many risks involved for both the dog and others. It's more an issue of shitty training than anything, but it would be a shitload easier to enforce "no dogs off the lead out in public" than "you must train your dog to come when it's called, sit and heel".

Honestly, if someone kicked my dog, I'd probably want to kick his ass too, regardless if he was in the right.

When I was in Africa our car got charged by a rhino, but we got away... Also got to play with some young lions (still bigger than most big dogs) This one was kinda wrestling with me and shredded my jeans and gave me a buncha cuts on my arm and leg. Their claws are so sharp they don't even need to apply any force to cut your skin like a razor blade. Was in a field with a bunch of wild monkeys, but they were chill. Also had a giraffe standing in the middle of the road and was able to pet it out the window. Still the worst was my friends 5 pound cat who would suddenly go psycho and claw chunks of skin out of you.

There is a load of media panic bullshit over false widow spiders in the UK right now. A quick look on wikipedia concludes that it's a load of noise over nothing, their bite is actually relatively mild to humans, contrary to the "they're out to kill you" nonsense that's all over newspapers. They've got one thing right, though; they're fucking everywhere. I've found three of them in the last three days, the last one being about an hour ago, sitting on the wall and disappearing when I came back to catch it. I had a look down the back of my bed 20 minutes ago and found a large house spider sitting there. These little bastards are making me edgy, I keep expecting to feel a nip at any moment.

Dammit, I was hoping it was a few isolated incidents, sucks to hear of random sightings like this. Last day or two though, there have been reports of actual Black Widows coming in under vans and such. International travel has a lot to answer for. Bad time to be a human!

I have a friend who has this rabbit:

Image

Man, that rabbit is a demon from hell. It attacks only men though. Once they were on vacation and the rabbit spent the week with us. My mom thought it was funny to let it out of it's cage. I wasn't save standing on the table. It just jumped on the chair and from there on the table.

I've been attacked by two cats. The first time I was maybe 4 or 5 and petting my grandparents' cat. It didn't take kindly to that and bit a chunk out of my arm. It was put down a few weeks later. I also got scratched when I picked up my friends cat a few years back. Got stung by a wasp behind my ear when I was 7 or 8. That wasn't fun.

Oddly enough, I prefer cats to dogs and I've even had a wolf walk right up to me with no incident.

When I used to live in Washington the housing community had a pond with some geese and swan. People are aware that geese can be jerks. They used to follow me and hiss. One day just to be a dick back at them I picked up some pebbles and played basketball with their gaping beaks and threw them inside.

I don't know if it's true for all swan, but that swan was even more aggressive than the geese were. The geese were all talk. You could chase the geese back or toss a few pebbles their way and they'd back off. The swan would actually not back down. It would walk up to you slowly no matter what you did and just keep walking towards you and people would always just move out of the way. I was wearing a long leather trench coat that day so I was well protected. I stood my ground to see what would happen and that thing just boldly pecked at me. That's about the best it could do cause it's a swan, what else is it gonna do? But it was a bit surprising to see swans be so aggressive.

That's what happens when someone turns loose the swans.

Once I was attacked by our previous dog. He bit my face because I teased him when I was drunk. At the time I returned home from a celebration late and the poor dog had been waiting for me to take him out the whole afternoon.
Dogs dislike drunk persons generally and I was provoking him in addition, so I got what I deserved.

As for geese, they are really audacious animals. They are able to chase you even if you go after them with an axe. No fear, no respect.

Ducks are just as bad! I was just driving into uni and stopped in the middle of the road to gawk at a bunch of baby ducklings (as you do). The mother duck took one look at my car and decided to chase after it  For some reason my first thought when I saw a small, fat duck quacking and waddling in my general direction with fuzzy ducklings in tow was to go "oh shit" and speed off. I escaped the ducks, at least.

In his book Shaun Ellis talks about how wolves in an enclosure went nuts when one of the keepers returned back from town drunk. The next day they poured alcohol over someone who then walked past them - nothing. They discovered it was the mans unnatural movements that excited the wolves, instinct kicked in and they saw him as injured and therefore prey.

He spent two years in the Canadian wilds so he could be accepted by a pack and learn from them. One day he was entrusted with looking after the pups while the beta male led the pack hunting. One older or injured (can't remember) wolf stayed behind with him. Shaun wanted to get a drink and wash from the river nearby when all of a sudden his companion turned vicious and refused to let him take to the path all that day.
The next day the dog was perfectly calm and upon reaching the river Shaun discovered fresh bear scratchings in the trees, he reckoned both he and the wolf would've stood little chance against a full grown bear (paw prints told him size).

I don't know if this counts as attacked or not, but when I was a kid I shot a squirrel with a BB gun and it jumped off the tree and ran at me on its two hind legs. Scared the shit out of me

This is the first hearing that dogs dislike drunks. I never saw any reaction of this kind myself. I would have thought it was because the erratic movements scared them, as opposed of ticking off their hunt instinct though.
They are really perceptive animals. Wild ones even more so.

I'd like to read a book by Shaun, but I don't think I ever saw one for sale here. I'll probably order it online.

I also remember this instance while hiking in the mountains, I just got chased by a cow. I was already exhausted, and this mad fellow was jumping aggressively, as if it would run at you and charge. Geez!

My last dog pissed on my leg after I came home from a night of drinking. I didn't take him on his night walk so I guess I deserved it. The sad thing is I wasn't his first victim. One time my grandfather was watching him and didn't take him for his walk so he crapped on his pillow and pissed in his shoes!!! This dog was pure evil.

When I was just around 8 or 9, I was chased by my neighbor's dog. Well, you know, most Balinese people have dogs like Chinese people have pigs. And that dog tried to bite my tight for three times. Luckily my sister shooed the dog away before it could bite me with its big jaws, considering its big size.

This qualifies as the gayest of animal attacks.

My uncle used to own a rabbit, very peaceful looking animal, very fluffy and all, but the fucker wont's stop chasing me around the garden trying to bite me. Let me tell you...when you are like 10 years old, a rabbit's bite is painful as hell. I got little scars on my left leg! The little fucker hated my guts!

The very first time I ever stepped foot in and went swimming in the ocean (I was maybe 12) I was "attacked" (not sure if this is quite the right term) by a jelly fish no more than five minutes into the foray and, needless to say, it was a pretty visceral experience - I was covered in sores and spent the remainder of the vacation pained and bed-ridden. Some fifteen years later I finally made it back to the ocean but the second time around I emerged unscarred and sting-free.

The cat my wife and I had when we first got married used to attack us any time it saw movement under covers. If I left the door open and was going to bed, for example, as soon as I moved my foot (or whatever) she'd pounce. I felt sort of annoyed, like "wtf, this is my apartment, why should I have to close the door and segregate myself in my bedroom?" But whatever, that's normal life with a cat I guess. :)

Exactly, I think about MP's beast too when I remember my uncle's evil rabbit.

When I was about six or seven I was playing tag with some friends and a Rottweiler tore a big chunk of flesh off me right above the left tit. My brother says it was dragging me, but I don't remember that part.

Fuck Rottweilers and everything that looks like them - I now carry a Colt .45 1911 when out on my walks, mainly for dangerous dogs.

Big man. I have a Rottweiler and he is the most gentle dog I've interacted with and he is fucking huge...If they are shown love and kindness, they will generally be trusting of humans. Rottweilers are actually not especially aggressive as they are cautious by nature. They can be made aggressive though which is sad and dangerous due to their strength. Really, fuck people that try and exaggerate that aspect of Rottweilers.

thinking about this thread just then, can't help but think a far better version of this thread would be a "what is the largest animal you have ever attacked?"

I have kicked a dog that was biting my dog. But yeah, nothing scarier than an old cranky labrador from this guy :(

Not attacked, but when I was a kid a huge Collie chased me for almost an hour and I ended up crying which gave me an irrational fear of dogs for the rest of my life.

I got bit really hard on the finger by a hamster once. Hamsters have really dull teeth but it bit really hard. Imagine popping a grape with a small Lego block. I had to smack it against the side of the cage several times before it let go.

hahaha.

I tried to cuddle with a dog once and it bit me in the face, it wasn't as friendly as I thought. I've also been chased by a goose before. :/
