I could probably do vocals, now that I think about it... I have a shitty radio shaft mic I could use.

At the very least, I could do ambient "ghost" vocals. :D

This sounds kinda fun. Wasn't the older competitions all different genres though? Like you got assigned generes and lyrical themes?

Seeing that the doom challenge this time last year yielded such great results, I was inspired to apply a similar formula to a black metal template.

Would you be interested in signing up?

Ehhh I may need to step down. My mic is doing pretty bad. I can do some drum programming and keyboard stuff though if anyone needs that.

I got lucky with my theme, thanks! I've got maybe 3 minutes of guitars done so far, but will try for somewhere around 10.

I'm very happy with my theme. I have a few things I need to work on before I can work on this but I'm excited to do so... and the funny part is 2 of the things i'm working on is black metal related. Just happened to work out that way.

I'm down to give this a go! I'll try my best to produce something but school may put a damper on that.

Oh what the hell, I'm in. I'm already trying to get a bunch of recording and mixing finished, this might provide a fun distraction if I get bogged down on the other stuff.

Gonna try to write 2 songs for this one. I've got a good bit of stuff done so far, so I may actually be able to. I'm just going to have to put a lot of thought into my lyrics.

I had some black metal riffs in the works but my lyrical theme is pushing me in a different direction. As simple as the theme seems I've never written anything with this in mind so it'll be interesting.

I'll start writing for this probably next week. tmwr I plan on knocking out hopefully all of inifinite's drums for the death grind project. and then I have a 16-22 min long song to write for a friend with some specific things he wants for him to sing over.

The big dilemma :) Already recorded 2 4+ min. instrumentals and can not decide which one to use for the competition song... Would the grand jury accept 2 songs or to post the instrumentals and ppl help me to pick one?

Just use them both, I'm planning on using two. Hell, SLK has written an entire EP for a couple of the challenges before, and I wrote a 21-track EP for the grindcore challenge. There's no limits.

Even though black metal is one of my favourite genres, I don't think I could write a song to save my life. I would be interested in trying mixing black metal with hardcore punk, though. Won't happen for this challenge, busy with school and don't have the means to record bass when I'm there. Should be an interesting challenge, though.

Going to try to finish three songs for this challenge. Depending on the song length, maybe enough for an EP. I have a friend in a black noise band that wants to do a split, so I'm aiming for enough material for that. Either way I'm enjoying it. I have a nice instrumental most of the way done, not sure how "traditional" black metal it is, but I think it's black metally enough to include.

I've got a few things worked out for this. Can't decide if I want to keep it in a more traditional bm sound or throw more weird dissonant shit in. I'm content with my lyrical theme, plan on doing those tonight. I never thought I'd be able to just write a song and do everything in a month but this is awesome and I can't wait to hear what everyone else puts out.

ah christ, I noticed this too late. Don't really have time. At any rate, I'm looking forward to Syntek and SLK's compositions. Especially Syntek, that doom song he'd written for a previous challenge is still in rotation around these parts.

Oh, really? I had no idea, heh. :p
But thank you for the kind words, regardless.

I've substituted a more meticulous approach for catharsis, this time around, so I can't promise anything.
However, I can guarantee it sounds just as apocalyptic as last time.

I'd love to do this but I cannot do vocals due to destroyed vocal chords (I can only talk in a certain range and can't yell, nothing comes out). I could grunt but I need a place that no one would hear me.
I'd be much easier if I could have a vocalist do it for me and I just laid everything down beforehand for the person.

That is what us collaborators are for! I'd be happy to help.

I have a handful of riffs and a rough arrangement. I might have to work on it this week.
