Hello all,

I am making a new thread because I did not think the topic of discussion would fit into one of the already created recommendation threads. If a mod sees this and wishes to move it or merge it with something else, go right ahead, I just simply didn't know where to put it.

I've had an appreciation for 70s rock bands in the vein of May Blitz and Frijid Pink for several months, along with things like Lucifer's Friend and Salem Mass. Today I started listening to a band called Leaf Hound, and it's making me want to go deeper into the genre and discover more about it.

I think there's many obscure 60s/70s heavy rock bands that deserve to be discussed and shared. I'll put some YouTube links in here, and anyone who feels as if they have something to contribute to the topic, please post!!

Leaf Hound - Sawdust Ceasar

May Blitz - Smoking the Day Away

Frijid Pink - Boozin Blues

Funny thing actually too... Church of Misery do a cover of a May Blitz track on one of the versions of the album The Second Coming!!

Church of Misery - For Mad Men Only

Thought that might be relevant :P

Happy listening!

That's my area right there!

Have fun :) If you need more, let me know. I write for a music webpage where I handle the stoner/doom/sludge/60's/70's/revival reviews, gigs, interviews and such. Also powerviolence/hardcore and old school grindcore, but that's not what we're talking about here. When it comes to the genres I love, I'm kind of like a musical encyclopedia. Can't help it :D

Thank you VERY much for all the recommendations my friend! I will be sure to check them out. The only one I know already is Naam, a great modern psych band.

Carry on!

You're very welcome. It's my pleasure. As soon as you checked 'em out, let me know which ones you prefer. I'll hook you up with some more stuff that tickles your fancy.

Not psych, but still great heavy rock/proto metal.

Icecross was a band from Iceland that put out an obscure self titled debut album around 1973. Good stuff. I THINK I read rockadrome is going to be reissuing it, but I'm not quite sure.

Anyone into this stuff NEEDS to get Fenriz' Bible compilation, which will no doubt include many of the bands posted in this thread (including the last two, Icecross and Atomic Rooster): http://616ritual.blogspot.com.au/2011/0 ... enriz.html

I cannot understate how much I fucking love that album. Every track rocks me hard.

And then his followup, Trapped Under Ice Vol. II: http://www.invisibleoranges.com/2009/10 ... ce-vol-ii/

There also needs to be a shoutout to http://www.aftersabbath.com/ who posts tons of awesome compilations.

There is a band I stumbled on a few months ago that knocked my socks off, playing some serious heavy proto-doom-psych-rock, P2O5 (or mistakenly spelled P205). They have one normal album plus an album of '76 material released later in the 90s. It's not that early but it does sound seriously ancient. Fucking murder.

I absolutely LOVE Fenriz' mixtapes LordTool, so thank you for bringing another one to my attention!

That's great stuff. I wouldn't say it sounds ancient, but it reminds me a lot of Bauhaus, almost sounds like they copied this band except for the power chords and leads. But Daniel Ash did play hard rock riffs once in a while. Has lots of jangly guitar in some songs too. Very dark.

Here is some White Summer, also from around 1976:

Captain Foam, this is great heavy psychedelic:

The b-side is also cool, acoustic though.
