Tantou and wakizashi were the common ones. Seppuku using a katana would've been a rather cumbersome task, as the ritual involved more than simply falling on a sword.

Edit: nevermind, I confused two separate rituals. Apparently, there was another suicide ritual that involved showing one's intestines through a massive wound in the abdomen, so as to prove that the insides were not black and thus their intentions had been pure. Apparently this was commonly done when a subordinate protested to his lord's decision with his suicide. I shall read more about this. According to wikipedia, seppuku would eventually become little more than a ritual decapitation.

You aren't alone. The lack of sleep I've gotten in the last few days meant that I was asleep until 2:30 PM yesterday, and that's making me stay awake this long tonight.

Daniel Radcliff to play Freddie Mercury?! Goddamn, at least Sacha Baron Cohen would've made it interesting. It's unfortunate he backed out.

Seppuku is performed with a wakizashi. If you only get one chance, get it right, man.

Really, it can be performed with any of the Japanese short swords, of which the wakizashi is just one sort. The tanto for exampe was also common.

It is true! Probably more common, in fact, particularly for official ceremonies rather than instances carried out in haste or on the battlefield. It's important we all study our fedual Japanese arms & armor.

The first 27 seconds of "Slit Your Guts" might one of the best moments in death metal - and that breakdown? HuurRRgghhh.

I prefer the parts that come after the first solo, like 1:27-1:51. That first riff is fucking murderous. I couldn't imagine a more appropriate soundtrack for brutally stabbing someone to death with sharp-edged kitchen utensils.

The riff that starts at 0:46 in Graves of the Fathers is the best one in None So Vile, if you ask me. That one is fucking alive, I'm telling you.

I'm most into the outro of "Dead and Dripping" myself. Starting at 3:19.

Well, how about Lichmistress 0:40-0:55? One of the catchiest moments of the album.

I don't care how cliche it is, Phobophile is my favorite. I want to play that at my wedding. I'll be all calm and serene playing that piano intro and then it just goes fucking nuts and a bunch of death metallers jump out of the cake and RAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGHGHGHRH

The last half of Benedictine Convulsions gets me every time. The vocals during the breakdown before the solo is probably Worm’s most demented moment.

Seriously. I mean, it's really hard for me to pick a singular song off that album - as I genuinely think it's best enjoyed as a complete picture. But I'm with you that the last half is just fucking twisted.

I think technical death metal is a soulless genre of music with few exceptions. Am I a minority here?

Yup, no one has ever had that opinion before, ever. It's a totally original thought.

I've listened to None so Vile and Blasphemy Made Flesh a lot - but not for years. I don't remember disliking them. I think it was mainly because of the production on their albums, it wasn't as sterile as other releases in the style.

I used to quite enjoy the first Decapitated album as well.

I always thought of them as metal for jazz fans, but it usually ends up being approached the other way around.

Fixed. I don't know how anyone can listen to Carnival is Forever and not be absolutely crushed that this record was released under the same name that Winds of Creation was released under.

And that's not even the full thing either. The album version is almost 9 minutes long.

Looks like a perfect example of keeping a band's name for the sake of marketing/popularity reasons. That song and the new lineup is so far removed from their older material.
