The Ruins of Beverast - Malefica

Apologia is a pretty goofy introduction. Other than that, Blood Vaults doesn't sound too bad so far. The production suits the music well, I think. It has yet to blow my mind, though.

Majestic Downfall - Cronos

Accesible yet overpowering in some sort of sense. This has some sort of charm that it sucks you up with its devastating atmosphere.

Summoning - in hollow halls beneath the fells.

Another classic on their best album.

Bloodbath - Slaughtering the Will to Live

Bloodbath's weakest album is still good. Kind of curious how the next one will sound, but I'd much rather Blakkheim bring back Diabolical Masquerade. Alas....

Sounds a good bit like Iron Monkey and that's a good thing to me.

I'm listening to this in a dark room with a few candles. I think I just tipped over the pretentiousness threshold like a drunken tight-rope-walker.

I think that kind of humor would've appealed to Peter Steele the most.

Mordred's Song - Blind Guardian
An enjoyable jaunt. The lyrics are fascinating and I enjoy their accuracy and detail. Acoustic intro is sweet and the leads are wonderful as always. Definitely my favorite band ever since I got into metal.

I replied just so I could say 'right on'. Blind Guardian is my favorite band too. :)

Syrus - The Rule [live]

Ugh, I'm really drunk, so I guess this'll do. They were the launchpad of Ray Alder, so that's something.

Blind Guardian I have to say is the best band ever, definitely my number one favorite too with imaginations from the otherside being my all time favorite album.

Armoured Angel - Beyond The Sacrament

I cannot get enough of these guys lately. So simple, but so well executed! Not to mention FUCKING heavy.

Undergang - Indhentet af Doden

Thick and murky. Undergang, you're doing it right. Second album is killer stuff, too, but this one probably edges it out slightly, with great riffing and a heavy-as-concrete production job. Looking forward to more material!

NP: Black Dethe - Mary's Blood demo (first listen)

Recommended to me as some primitive proto-death metal. Sounds just like that at the moment, which is great news.

Queued:

Womb/Disciples of Mockery split

Any Craig Pillard stuff tends to be good - hell, he was on the best Incantation album - and the Womb stuff (reissue of pre-DoM demo) is good too.

Clinging to the Trees of a Forest Fire - Omega Drunk on the Blood of Alpha

Not really sure how I feel about this band yet. Their split with Nesseria was fantastic, but none of their full-length stuff has really appealed yet.

Unleashed - The Dark One

Nonstop blast beat first half, evil slow riffs, then more blast beats the rest of the way. Very simple, but damn good. Can't wait to see them at mdf.

Coroner - Mistress of Deception

Just watched the trailer for the upcoming Coroner documentary and had to hear some No More Color. This album is full of killer riffs and I love how it's technical, but not for the sake of technicality. I should listen to Coroner a lot more often!

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss

This is THE record. The one CD i will never ever part from. It does not get better than this, period.

Children of Mäani - In the Middle of the Macrocosme - "Those Who are Called VAO"

Goddamn if The Veil Of Osiris isn't one hell of an interesting ep. Raw, yet still with enough weight to be quite heavy, meandering melodies and some truly phenomenal, atmospheric leads. Vindsval's guitar work here is something else, as are the varied vocals - even the programmed drums fit well amongst the distorted madness. Damn cool stuff.

Bloodletting by Marduk

one of the songs by them I've been listening to nonstop for a while now. One of their heaviest and best off of World Funeral, an overall great album.

Omega Centauri - Fallen

Quite massive, atmospheric black metal of sorts. No too bad really.

Not too bad. I'd probably need to hear more of it but it's certainly interesting.

This is sig worthy.

Gorgasm - Orgy of Murder

A no-bullshit approach to brutal death, but Gorgasm still make it interesting, at least for me. They're apparently working on new material, so I'm keen to hear what they follow this up with.

Ossuary Insane - Demonize the Flesh

Really cool American death metal with some slightly blackened touches from the forgotten era of the late 90's. Alternates between thuggish, pummeling groove sections and slightly weirder riffs that sound like they're trying to achieve similar results to Immolation but with an entirely different riff dialect that feels more European. The layered "demon" vocals aren't really my favorite thing in the world but they actually sorta work here.

God this band never fucking disappoints. Just massive amounts of guitar beating down on your head over and over.

Great stuff.

Atheist - Retribution

If more tech death sounded like this, maybe it'd be a better genre. The injection of thrash and classic DM influences into the proggy song structures really makes quite a magic mix. The songs are concise and intense, and never go on longer than they should.

Carcass- Surgical Steel.

Finally. I avoided all trailers and leak activity. CD came in the mail yesterday. I'm on my 5th listen straight through. Welcome back. Catchy as fuck. Mastery of sounding clean and dark at the same time.

Constantine - Reaching the Invisible

Seems like this band is taking a more modern progressive metal approach for their upcoming album. This isn't bad though; a bit more challenging to listen to and not as riffy as their previous stuff but still full of energy and groove.

Disma - Towards the Megalith

Total Incantation worship, for sure. Pretty crushing riffs and great songs, so they worship their idols correctly. :) They might need to stand out a little more for their next one, but this is good death metal.
