First wave of announcements are here. To be fair, this probably shouldn't be in the metal discussion. Thoughts?

Spoiler: show

Regardless of metal-ness, it should go in the tour section.

Unless they've got some truly spectacular names attached to the second lineup announcement I'll be giving it a miss this time around.

Not paying 200 for a handful of bands, half of whom I've already seen at previous soundwaves.

It seems they're continuing with the Soundwave habit of getting like six good bands and filling the rest with crap.

too many people accuse soundwave of doing a terrible job as australia's answer to wacken. of course it does, because you're evaluating it on the wrong terms! soundwave caters to more or less ALL alternative rock genres, has to try and appeal to metalheads, punks, hipsters AND grungers... and does a decent job of covering all its bases most years. i'll probably go to this one, simply because i still haven't seen alice in chains live and they're about as close to an all-time favourite band as i have. for $200 i'll also be able to sit through a bunch of those other bands, too: down, STP (maybe - that's the dude from linkin park, isn't it?), rob zombie, megadeth, testament, volbeat, amon amarth, gwar, newsted... and green day's first 2-3 albums are 90s classics! there's easily enough to fill $200 and a day's worth of music/beers in the sun.

Entombed was leaked as another band coming that will be on the metal stage too so that might make it a little bit worth it.

Yeah, this is about what ran through my mind upon first glance at the line-up. Valiant effort, I guess.

Says the guy who put it in metal discussion.

Pre-order tickets went up this morning and I got a bunch. There's a decent number of bands on there I'd love to see either for the first time or again. And so sue me, I still love Green Day.

p.s. It's a rock festival people. It was never metal-specific. Get over it.

I'm hoping for some sidewaves so I can catch Alice in Chains, Testament and The Black Dahlia Murder. Everything else I have no interest in seeing so I'll take a big pass on Soundwave 2014.

Anyone who gets a spare Melbourne ticket let me know!

I really hate all the headliners so far, especially Green Day.

But for me there is Amon Amarth, Testament, Megadeth (please stay away from the new album Dave), Down, Devil Driver + i'm sure a few extras will get announced that i might want to see. It's cheaper than last year at least, not by much.

I have heard strong rumours of Manowar playing, i highly doubt it, but you never know.

I wish Hypocrisy would get on board.

Manowar get linked every year. The promoter is a huge Manowar fan, and says he will get them one year. As for Megadeth, they're touring for that album, so good luck with that!

Just report the post instead of mini-modding, Rickie.

What a fucking awful lineup, god.

Yeah, this basically as bad as it gets. There'd be a few bands I'd be kind of keen on seeing, maybe, if they weren't $200 and in with a heap of obnoxious bogans included. But yeah i'm going to not-attend the shit out of this.

It's a pretty standard mixed-bag lineup... I've seen Trivium twice at Wacken and spare the fact that I find about 80% of their music quite boring, they seem to pour a lot of energy into their live shows.

I don't fancy the idea of that dildo from Linkin Park pissing all over beloved Stone Temple pilots tunes, though.
