The last time I was this excited about a release was when Negativa's ep was a year away from release.

Scream Bloody Gore

On a serious note, this obviously has a few FWTH-isms. And by that I mean, at times, it reminds me of a Gorguts song that could've been on that record.

Totally! That was actually one of the things that immediately grabbed my attention. Isn't it cool when a bad takes 12 years between albums and the new material coming out seems like it could've been written closely after their last work?

That cover art is very very very far away from being bad. I guess you probably would like it to have some photoshoped characters ontop of it as well like that Fleshgod album you really are fond of.

androdion, totally agree. Love it when a band doesn't drop the ball or gets influenced by a ton of newer shit. People don't come back to a band for their new take on shit, they come back for a further expansion or direct sequel to their last work, unless it was a pile of garbage.

So occasionally you can hear the old Gorguts shining through, which means it would have fit on that record?

That doesn't make sense. If it's only occasional, the song would have stood out as anomalous on that record.

I don't think you honestly understand how listening to something and feeling that it sounds similar to a previous song/album comes about.

That's not an opinion, it's pure fact. You really don't comprehend ideas and avoid direct questions.

yeah Colin wrote "Forgotten Arrows" and Kevin wrote the song "Absconders" while Luc Lemay wrote the rest of the songs

I listened to this and it's great. Skip to the 15 minute mark for the interview to start. You can hear the enthusiasm in Luc's voice and he rambles in great detail about how the album shaped up and him employing the services of Colin, John and Kevin. Amongst other things, he did talk about his guitaring abilities, the style shift etc. Pity that metalsucks cut short the podcast into two parts. The second half of the interview will be posted in the next podcast scheduled later this week (hopefully).

With regards to the song, it's textbook Gorguts and sounds great! I love the arrangement and sequencing of the slower sections with respect to the faster more heavier parts. It absolutely doesn't drag on for too long to make it boring or sterile. If this is shaping up to be the cat's ass, then hell yes! :)

Man, you're so shitty at putting words in other people's mouths. By "old" Gorguts I assume you're talking about the first two full-lengths, which we were clearly not talking about as I clearly stated that it reminded me of something one would hear on From Wisdom To Hate. Good try though!

Just leave the little dummy alone. Clearly he doesn't know how to comprehend, well, anything, and it's best to leave him alone to wallow in his pit of idiocy. Maybe he'll develop a taste for nu-core if you leave him alone long enough.

I can safely say that I'm quite excited for this record after hearing An Ocean of Wisdom. Gorguts have never been high on my list of bands to listen to, so for me to be genuinely pumped for something involving them is quite a rarity.

Those two have been released as the completed track, we also have this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEX5n3_p254 that is instrumental, as well as the old video of Luc and Jon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az4Q3UpDGdU which is apparently Ember's Voice.

No, I mean anything prior to this current debacle of an album. That was obvious from the context of the message.

Actually, the new songs have been growing on me a bit. I hated Obscura and From Wisdom to Hate, but I'll give this new one a fair chance.

Actually it wasn't, because everything before this "debacle of an album" was Gorguts' ENTIRE DISCOGRAPHY.

I'm gonna call it right now; tech-death album of the year right here. So glad Gorguts is finally back. Can definitely tell that Luc's been listening to a bunch of Deathspell Omega and Ulcerate.

Can't wait for September 3rd. :D

I don't think he was comparing this new album to Obscura, he was just sharing his experience with you on a common album... basically saying that maybe you didn't give it much of a chance. and actually there are hints of obscura in the two songs and def hints of From Wisdom to Hate which kinda leads me to say that you should give at least From Wisdom to Hate another chance. Honestly this isn't vastly removed from their other works like you might think.

I won't consider it vastly removed from FWTH. In fact, I'll say that if these new tracks are any indication, they're more solid executions of the FWTH idea.

Maybe after listening to this album completely maybe give FWTH another shot. You might end up liking it more.

I've always found From Wisdom to Hate to be superior to Obscura. It's more focused and the songwriting is a ton better.
