Death - Human (CLASSIC AS HELL)

I remember when Human came out I heard Flattening of Emotions and it was impossibly brutal. The production was massive for the age (and still sounds pretty heavy) and compared to Spiritual Healing was like a 360° change, for the better I think. TOGETHER AS ONE! That intro alone beat the shit out of everyone at the time!!!!

Np: Disincarnate - Confine of Shadows. One of very few flawless albums in death metal. There's absolutely nothing below excellent on it, not even 1 riff being merely average.

Dark Funeral - Slava Satan

I wonder why there are so few bands pulling the "norsecore" (god I hate that term) style off nearly as successfully as Dark Funeral on their first three albums.

because let's face it, Dark Funeral are the kings of 'norsecore' along with Marduk. Just like At the Gates clones, DF/Marduk clones typically tend not to be as good as the originators.

Sorry bro, but clearly Precambrian is the leader of the pack. A pretty dense layered album, but almost certainly their strongest work.

To you three Canucks worshipping Precambrian, how many times have you listened to Pelagial exactly? The way it progresses is amazing, and I personally love the clean vocals. The riffing has slightly more diversity as well.

Vitsaus - Kuolleen Seurassa

Excellent stuff. Raw, emotive and fucking evil. Pretty much exactly what makes a lot of Finnish black metal so good.

Skagos - Anarchic

A beautiful and powerful album, although it is quite different from Ast, I think it is of almost the same quality.

"Der Weg Einer Freiheit" -
Der Weg Einer Freiheit

Aside from the awful production, this would otherwise be a pretty good album. Rather stereotypical modern German Black Metal- think Drudkh meets Immortal.

The Emptiness of Spirit by Omnium Gatherum

pretty sorrowful, mellow sounding melodic dm. Really the best at what they do

Progressive punk-inspired Thrash from 2009. Super fresh and original, and on par with Vektor imo.

Huun-Huur-Tu - "Aa Shuu Dekei Oo"

I went to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival yesterday and saw a couple performances by Mongol people (Kalmyk and Tuvan) so now I have Mongolian music on my mind. I love everything about it..the sound of the language(s), the eerie sound of throat-singing, the way the stringed instruments often imitate the rhythm of a galloping horse..

After that, some Chinese pop while posting some listings on a Chinese radio site for my boss XD

I promise I'll listen to metal later.. XD

The Birthday Massacre - The Long Way Home

Not metal, I know, but it's still a great song. Only issue is it needs to be much longer than it is.

Tengger Cavalry - "War Horse"

Logical follow-up to Tuvan/Mongolian folk music :P A thundering metal song with lots of strings and throat singing going on too.

Not quite metal I'd agree, but they definitely have some nice heavy guitar parts \m/

Very cool version of that song, especially if one has only heard the FETO demo and Scum versions. Though, I wish the band did more stuff like 'Cheswick Green'...

NP: Borrowed Time - 'The Thaumaturgist'

Can't wait for new releases from this band. These rough cuts sound pretty good as it is, vocals may need a little work but it's still pretty cool.

Bad Brains - F.V.K.

Off Rock For Light. Cheap, impulse buy. The punk is good but I could do without the raggae.

Marduk - Rom 5:12

Even though Opus Nocturne and Heaven Shall Burn... are probably my favorite Marduk albums, I really like Mortuus more than Legion and Axelsson. His "clean" vocals on Limbs of Worship are fucking great.

Darkspace - 3.11

The most interesting thing about Darkspace, for me, is that without fail, for the first minute or so of listening to them I always wonder what I see in this band as it comes across as a wall of noise and not much more. However, if I stick with it for a few minutes something clicks, and before I know it the album's over, and I'm sitting here awestruck and slightly confused as to what's happened over the last 80 minutes.

This is how I feel about the band as well. Darkspace is one of those bands where I can never remember anything about what a particular album sounded like, but I put it on again anyways because the one thing I do always remember is that I liked what I heard. Excited about future releases from this band.

Kevin Welch - True Love Never Dies

I'm enamored with this...sort of an AOR/80s rock thing combined with western attitude. If not for the amazingly good vocals this would be effeminate as hell, but Welch delivers a great, upbeat performance and the rockabilly-ish chords add some needed muscle. Huge amounts of fun...I bought the album after hearing this once this morning, and I think it'll be well worth it.

NP: Shok Paris - Steel and Starlight

I always meant to check this band out, but Zodi's review finally prompted me to do so. Sounds positively awesome so far. I just dig this blend of 80's power metal and commercialized hard rock when it's done well, as it is here.

I had to search far and wide for every Root album I own. It's songs like this that make every hour spent worth it.

Pretty average album, but I really like this song. Closer to where Armored Saint was going with Symbol of Salvation, with just the right touch of grunge influence.

Great album. I'd put it on par with Outer Isolation at least. Haven't heard any news about a new one unfortunately, because they're easily one of the most interesting new thrash bands.
