In fairness though, if virtual reality ever becomes something that the average person can afford, the first people to successfully create VR porn are going to make so much goddamn money.

Hmmm, I don't know about that. VR porn is one thing, but one would still have to do the "deed" by himself. It seems like a lot of unnecessary hassle to me with thousands of terabytes of free porn already under the fingertips. Now if they could make actual physical holograms....

And double edit because Marag's comment wasn't directed to me. Atleast I think it wasn't.

All things considered, Star Trek's holodecks should be completely glazed with man juice.

I forgot if this has been posted before in this thread, but Smooth McGroove is one seriously awesome bloke who makes kick-ass acappella versions of game songs: http://www.youtube.com/user/SmoothMcGroove
Watch for his cat, he's just too adorable. :puppy:
Recent one he made, Super Metroid prologue:

Some old favourites:

Guile's theme

Sonic 2 - Chemical Plant

Dude is seriously talented. And that cat!

If you need an excuse to spend more cash on gaming, there's a summer sale starting on GOG. I think I'm not even gonna look...

Also, Mark of the Ninja is $3.75 on Steam... argh... *buys* :nono:

I advise to not keep that in your backlog for too long. Definitely one of the best stealth games I've played.

Assholes. Nothing but a sign of weakness to fall back on their word when they clearly outlined all these grand ideas and plans. So mandatory cloud gaming / streaming was a complete lie?

Come on now, they had horrid ideas, got reamed for them from every direction, and listened to the reactions and went back on it. Let's not mock them for making a smart move finally.

That said I'm still 100% not in favor of their new system and have absolutely no plans to get it in the future, but it's nice to see they actually reacted to the backlash and backed out of some of the worst ideas in the history of videogaming.

I work for a gaming company and we all expected them to do it, but everyone here is still going PS4 anyway. It would be really interesting to see how many preorders and reserves there are currently for each system.

Ah, the one they did right is backpedal. Should have done that from the start instead of destroying their rep and saying sorry afterward.

Drop the mandatory Kinect bullshit (and the price that comes with it) and maybe I'll pick one up three or four years from now if there are any exclusives worth playing by then.

"Tool little, too late" has never been more appropriate, they have already shown an absolute lack of respect for consumers and even though this is definitely a smart move for them, I'd imagine that in most people's minds, the damage is already done; fuck those guys.

The new Kinect looks awesome actually, be interesting to see what they can do with the technology.

I'm a little pissed they removed the DRM mainly due to the family sharing plans they had which sounded awesome. Really taking steps backwards here, instead of trying to be innovative they're just heading towards an Xbox 360 with better specs.

I can't believe how much people give a shit about the DRM stuff? Like all of a sudden no-one on the planet has internet and trades games every 3 seconds with their mates.

I purely exist 3 years in the past buying $20 second hand games and I have wireless internet with an 8 gig limit, so yeah the Xbone would have been impossible for me to use.

And DRM is a pain in the ass on PC, not having to put up with it is one of console gamings greatest strengths. Its bad enough every second game has an install now.

Yeah, that sounded like a great feature for customers.

Wait... for customers? On a system loaded with anti-customer systems? Doesn't that sound too good to be true?

Quote:
When your family member accesses any of your games, they’re placed into a special demo mode. This demo mode in most cases would be the full game with a 15-45 minute timer and in some cases an hour...When the time limit was up they would automatically be prompted to the Marketplace so that they may order it if liked the game... The difference between the family sharing and the typical store demo is that your progress is saved as if it was the full game, and the data that was installed for that shared game doesn’t need to be erased when they purchase the full game!

...Oh.

What were you saying about innovation again?

Now, contrast the way the feature really works, above, with how Microsoft originally presented it:

Quote:
Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.

Everything to make you think you can really share your games completely with no limitations. Just wow. They're really turning up the evil corporation thing to 11 this gen.

It's like I said before: Microsoft seemingly discovered that they are allergic to making money, and are doing everything they can to make sure the Xbox One does exactly the opposite of that.

EDIT: Having now read the entirety of what that Microsoft employee said, I was just rolling my eyes at how much ass kissing was done in it. I get that the guy works for the company and all, but there was so much lip-to-anus action in that blog post that it was kind of ridiculous. This person just flat out does not get why people flipped the fuck out over the Xbox One the way they did. It was not because of spokespeople not accentuating the positives rather than fighting off negative criticism (rightfully deserved negative criticism, I might add). It was because the company was restricting the hell out of what you could and could not do with the console, as well as the whole "always online" thing, and, through Don Mattrick saying that for anyone who doesn't like it they can just keep their 360s, pretty much saying that you can fuck off if you don't like it. Microsoft backpedaling on the DRM restrictions and the always online element reads much less like the company actually caring about what their consumers want and more like intense damage control in the wake of intense negative feedback. I won't say it's too little, too late as there's still five months before the console comes out, but there's an extremely sour taste in the mouths of everybody after all that has happened with this console.

Before anyone says "this is an unconfirmed an unsourced pastebin, probably BS", you should probably know that this was discussed on NeoGAF and confirmed by a NeoGAF poster called CBoaT who has apparently almost never been wrong.

Also, ask yourself this, what is more plausible: that M$ misled customers about the feature, or that publishers would really allow you to pay once for a game and let 10 of your friends play it without any limitation? Coming from a company that bans used sales because it "hurts developers" and cuts into their profit margin, such a move from a notoriously anti-consumer and DRM-heavy company would make zero sense.

Besides which, letting a few friends borrow a game is hardly a big deal. If you want to all play Halo 234264325 and COD:MW:BO:SDFS:GUGFIUG together, you're all going to need your own unique copies anyway, right? And if it's single-player only, and has plenty of replay value, chances are you friends are going to want their own copies. I originally borrowed Eternal Darkness from a friend and beat it 3 times, then bought it myself and beat it 3 more times. My borrowing it actually ENCOURAGED me to buy it, as I wasn't sure if I'd like it before trying it.

Really what Microsoft needs to be doing is what Nintendo and others have said: encourage people to buy copies through positive reinforcement, not negative reinforcement. Give gamers an incentive to buy and keep their own unique copy, either through lots of replayability, online options with your friends, regular releases of quality DLC (free, ideally), etc. Instead they treat their customers like citizens in a fucking dictatorship, who get to watch their rights slowly dwindle without any real recourse other than leaving altogether.

To me it's still weird to this day that Sega had to stop doing consoles.

If Nintendo or Playstation suddenly fell someday, I don't know what I'd do (although talking to some friends about this, I like the idea of Nintendo going exclusive to Sony and just staying in the handheld market. They'd both win).

If Xbox disappeared tomorrow, I wouldn't give a shit.

I'm being ignorant when I own like 60 or so 360 games but damn, just reflecting on this gen. I can't think of a single good thing they did and brought to the medium really. Pay a service to use paid services on top of your paid ISP service. Also ads in your face for a premium service, nice. PS4 seems to be going this way with multiplayer, but hey at least they're saying you can still access everything else for free and play demos that might potentially sell me on a game. Crazy!

Kinect is fucking terrible, nothing else needs to be said. I could careless about motion controls in general, but man the Wii blows it out of the water for sure. There's no way in heck the new Kinect is going to be that improved I'm sure. So glad the Eye won't be packed in and watching me masturbate.

Spending one billion on gaming on whatever MS is doing is terrible too. And Halo TV. Oh boy, yes just keep blowing up this market, let's see development teams reach the thousands and raise that CoD goal line even higher. Let's continue to see developers suffer and get thrown under the bus when publishers stay alive, oh hell yeah. Guess this is another discussion, but I have to laugh that I did game design in high school and could have tried to stick with it. I have to imagine it's pretty miserable nowadays.

This will be a very interesting gen that turns the tide on some stuff, I hope. Or everything will just keep getting worse I guess. Not like I'll ever stop gaming, but this market needs a major shake up.

I kinda like the idea of Sony going just handheld, I've never had an Xbox or anything, and I thought the PSP was disappointing for it's promise, but that would give the three major forces something different to do. The Xbox vs Sony is the most boring console war ever, both companies are selling effectively the same product and games, so now the wars are all nitpicky and petty. I miss the old days when people compared consoles for the scores of awesome unique games each possessed, now Sony has like 3 exclusives and the Xbox has like 15, so generally I don't give a shit who wins.

Dead Island for $5 on Steam this weekend (and DR Riptide for $20.) With that I think the only thing I'm planning to pick up during the Summer Sale will be Dark Souls.

Hell, I've barely even touched Dragon Age and Deus Ex HR, both of which I picked up during the last summer sale. Planning on getting to those once I finish Mass Effect 3 (just beat ME2 two nights ago.)
