Wasteform - Crushing the Reviled
This is my first playthrough of the album, so still getting first impressions. Broadly speaking, it's pretty solid and run of the mill New England Brutal / Slam Death Metal. Bass is definitely a high point.

Alice In Chains - The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here - Hung on a Hook

I have been listening to this non stop since it came out. I wasn't expecting such a mellow album after Black Gives Way To Blue but this is damn good.

Iskra - My Country Tis of thy People are dying

I really need to get some of their stuff. on a side note, was checking it on youtube and I didn't realize this was 9mins. I was wondering why it was going on and on.

Never really got into Iskra much. I really like Black Kronstadt, though.

NP: Mercyful Fate - Into the Coven
Not much to say. Melissa is a killer album and essential metal listening.

Spacemen 3: Rollercoaster

Specifically the 17-minute version. I would be SHOCKED if Dylan Carson wasn't inspired to form Earth from listening to this band, and possibly this track. At least twelve of these minutes are just spent jamming on a chord with a steady drum beat and the occasional guitar lead over the top of it.

Leviathan - VI-XI-VI

Massive Conspiracy Against All Life kinda of sounds more like Lurker of Chalice than Leviathan itself. Unsurprisingly it's also my favorite album by Leviathan.

Skull Beneath the Skin - Megadeth

Man, shit-talking Megadeth now that Dave is old and went nuts is easy, but back in the day (hurhur) he was the fucking living incarnation of thrash.

I am currently listening to this album. EASILY Megadeth's best.
Next album on shuffle is Morbid Angel's Heretic, which, while having great song-writing, suffered a bit in production (by a bit I mean a lot). Sometimes it makes the songs sound beefier and at other times makes them sound silly.

Deathlike Silence from (2011) Sorcier Des Glaces - The Puressence of Primitive Forests.

Nekromanteion - Alchemyst

Very well done thrashy black metal. Not a fan of the vocalist though

Vader - Reborn In Flames

De Profundis doesn't really hold a candle to The Ultimate Incantation. The riffs just aren't as good.

Correct, they are often much better on De Profundis.

NP: Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales EP

CF's best release by a long way. To Mega Therion has filler. Yeah, I said it.

Queued:

The Ocean - Heliocentric

Haven't listened to this for a while but I remember there being some great songs on it.

Nuit Noire - Infantile Espieglery

I haven't yet come to a conclusion on Nuit Noire. I think I like them, but they're pretty weird.

Threshold - Slipstream, off Dead Reckoning

Good, chunky prog. Pretty cool indeed, although I prefer Damian Wilson over Andrew McDermott (not that the latter is bad at all). I also feel that the growls, as good as they are, are rather out of place.

Yngwie Malmsteen - Braveheart

Killer song from an absolutely underrated, amazing record. 'Facing the Animal' is easily in my top five Yngwie favorites.

Black Sabbath - 13. I've been listening to it a lot to get a good idea of what's going on. It was easy too see through the record.

Sepultura - Schizophrenia

Not as good as Beneath The Remains or Arise but still pretty good and a bit more extreme and veering to the death metal side more so than thrash.

Brian Eno - Ambient 1/Music For Airports 2/2

Listening to this, drinking chai and not writing essays like I should. So relaxing.

We were talking about this last saturday night.
I prefer (1987) Sepultura - Schizophrenia to (1989) Sepultura - Beneath The Remains.

Ærie Descent from (1999) Thorns vs Emperor (Plus 1989-91 Rehearsals as Bonus).
From the (1992) Thorns - Trøndertun Demo. Need some creepy riffing!

That choir at the end. Amazing.

I like McDermott better just a bit. The new album is within a hair of being as good as DR, but I just think DR is a little more emotional and raw.

I'm listening to/watching The Killing.

Austere - To Lay Like Old Ashes

I'm really liking this album so far, very emotional and powerful black metal.

The harsh vocals on that track made me do a double-take at first, but I ended up loving that song and nearly every second of that album. I even dig the cover of Muse's Supermassive Black Hole. It's easily one of my favorite albums of all time.

NP: Incantation - Dying Divinity
I've been on a pretty righteous Incantation kick recently. Classic, meaty and monstrous.

Saint Vitus-Zombie Hunger

Reagers is a superior vocalist to Wino utterly no contest, Wino's redneck old man vocals have nothing on his expressive soulful rockish tone. Music is still shitty though, but I really love Reager's voice.

NP: Fukpig - 3

I don't understand why Fukpig don't get more attention. They've released three albums and they're probably the band who've released the most consistently fantastic material over the past ten years.

Queued:

Bastard Priest - Under the Hammer of Destruction

Good new Swedeath with the single most important factor - songwriting ability. 'Total Mutilation' is a doozy.

Bathory - Bathory

Bathory. Bathory. Bathory. Has a nice ring to it.

I don't like Marduk. Why listen to them when it has been done WAY better?!?

Spiral Architect from (1973) Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (2007 Remaster Japan Paper Sleeve Collection)
Same song, again.

Really? IMO PDM is one of the better examples of the hyperblasting style. Certainly better than fucking 1349...

NP: Parlamentarisk Sodomi - De Anarkistiske An(n)aler

This is just a really good grindcore album. Manages to pull off an 11-minute grindcore song too, and fit it into the album well.

Queued:

Swans - Holy Money

Early Swans is always good stuff. It's also a part of the era that appeals more to me - not quite the pure industrial visceral feel of Filth and Cop (which has a time and a place), but the slightly more accessible approach of the stuff going into Children of God.

Terrorizer/Nausea - Split Demos (bootleg)

Classic grind and classic crust demos. Who could refuse?

Svart Crown - Profane.

Lovely piece of chaotic blackened death metal with slight tinges of melody. The drummer's a beast

Paradise Lost - Rotting Misery

No idea why Greg and Nick dislike this record. It's some good old fashioned doom/death with a creepy twist to it. ''Breeding Fear'' and this tune are still some of my favourites by the band.

Big End Bolt

Nice Mid-paced BDM that focuses heavy grooves despite not being slam. Quite tech as well. Igor Fil does wonders here as well as the new Katalepsy that he's in.

Cheesy Mercyful Fate worship.
