Basically, I'm looking for songs or bands that give out a sort of cold sound. Not a raw sound, but something that sounds like something that is blowing in like a blizzard. Catamenia for instance does this really well. So does Immortal, but I'm not really looking for black metal.

Try the album "Far Away From The Sun" by Sacramentum. Here's the first track:

Blut aus Nord's first full length "Ultima Thule" has a very cold atmosphere, although it is basically raw black metal. Still, that album makes me feel like being trapped on a mountain top during a blizzard. The vocals have a harsh "gusty" feel to them which reminds me of howling wind

Check out Evilfeast's "Mysteries of the Nocturnal Forest". Super cold atmosphere with a dynamic sound all around.

The name, song name, and cover art match, not sure if the music does.

Let me rephrase it, I'm not a huge fan of black metal, unless it's melodic or symphonic. Not a huge fan of the rawish, side of BM. Thanks for the recs. The Sacarmentum song is actually not bad.

Anyway, I'll still second 'em, and throw out BSA's song "Core of Winter" - the first riff pretty much sounds like being hit in the face by a blizzard.

I also recommend Forest Stream, for some gothic/doom metal that sounds majestically icy:

Black/death but I.C.E. fits the bill. Their music is like a raging blizzard and they have a very strong gimmick of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wd8kdTGpfw

The only other ones I can think of are more on the raw side of black metal.

Oh man, make up your mind! :p

Well then, that way I can rec some stuff. Dissection's Storm Of The Light's Bane is pretty much ice all the way around, just look at the cover art and you know what you're in for. Very melodic and with a lot of hooks to sink your teeth in. Azure's Moonlight Legend is somewhat similar to Dissection/Sacramentum in style, and the album features a kind of misty forest-like atmosphere. The lyrical content really helps here, pretty good stuff. You can also try Kvist's For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig Vike, which is similar to old Satyricon (give or take) but isn't as raw. Might as well check out Dark Medieval Times as well if you want to give something a bit rawer a chance. After a few spins the folkish melodies start enthralling you. Odium's The Sad Realm Of The Stars is a symphonic black album with a space thematic, but has this incredibly wintry atmosphere. The same can be said about Sirius' Aeons Of Magick, think late nineties Emperor with a melodic flair. Both are a bit rough around the edges, but again, you may find some guitar/keyboard melodies to be interesting. Now I have to recommend a very cool (and mostly unknown) Finnish act, Throes Of Dawn. Their debut has a very cold atmosphere, although the production kind of sucks there. The sophomore is more "Autumn-like" but is very good as well. Think Cradle Of Filth mixed with... Pink Floyd! And finally, two of my personal favourite bands. The first being Vinterland, with its one and only album of sorrowful melodic black, and the second Vintersorg. For the later I'd say Till Fjälls is a very nice bet, although the production might be a bit "crunchy". It's like a Viking singing in the frozen hills, really cool album.

So yeah, all of the above are black metal in some way... Don't let that get in your way though, there's a lot of potentially (for you) good stuff there. ;)

Would other genres work for you?
Conquest - Frozen Sky (Power Metal)

HMKids - K'tan (Death/Thrash)

One of the rare non black metal (thrash in this case) bands that clearly have it is Messiah, on Extreme Cold Weather album:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGkAMRav1SM
and this instrumental from it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7oxYs4eZc0

the rest of the album however isn't themed around ice, I'd say the album is one of the few cases where lyrics are a HUGE turn off, the music is still amazing.

The Conquest song is really good! I actually prefer other genres, again, melodic death, power, melodic black, those are fine, I'm not looking for anything RAW or anything like that.

Insomnium, melodic death metal. One of the few melodeath outputs that can be taken seriously. They are cheesy as many melodeath bands but they have an awesome quality and atmosphere. They are cold as fuck, in a good way.

I actually think they have more of a warm Autumn vibe, but that's just me. Big fan of the band but wouldn't call them "icy" or "cold".

Darkness Eternal. Side project of one of the dudes from The Chasm. I find it's got this really cool icy black metal vibe to it, but it's definitely death metal.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0XxC9rgWUE

Innumerable Forms. Incantation laden, simple death metal with a really icy claustrophobic production. Side project of Mind Eraser's guitarist.

I always felt that the album Path of the Weakening by Deeds of Flesh has a very blizzard like sound. I think quite a few of there earliest albums have a blizzard atmosphere, but this one takes the cake, artwork and all. May not be the most accurate band for the atmosphere your looking for but it will most definatly be a worthy listen.

:???: RC are rather one of the bands I would call playing a "warm" sound, but anyway... maybe it's just me.

A band I could recommend is Vargavinter with the album "Frostfödd". A nowadays really unmentioned and possibly forgotten band
but imo you could find your liking in them. Their black metal has enough melody and coldness to suit your taste.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YGZMWb8sFw

early Abigor could maybe work, too, esp. their song "Weeping Midwintertears"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvefKh9fjDo

well, and an obious one, early Enslaved mainly their albums "Vikingligr Veldi" and esp. "Frost"

Whoa, how has Paysage d'Hiver not been mentioned yet? :???: One of the ultimate winter-vibe projects, incredibly blizzard-shrouded, frost-cracked atmosphere, brittle with ice and bleached with endless snow.

Oh, uh... but Paysage d'Hiver isn't black metal...it's...winter...metal... .... yeah. ;)

But...anyway, there is no metal that sounds like "blowing in a blizzard" more than PdH, so the rec stands by dint of sheet blizzardness!! :panda: HURRRRR

I'd say Setherial's Nord but again it's somewhat raw.

You could try Dawn from Sweden their riffs are amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5THxmvfIpRA

Dalina are pretty awesome, although hard to find. Not really metal at all either, but cool winter atmosphere.
http://infektion.pt/records/index.php?r ... duct_id=52

I would also recommend Ghost Brigade. Maybe it's just my association of winter and depression, but still awesome.
