What I'm looking for is a band that can do music so brutal it's scary, yet be melodic at the same time. The closest thing I've come across to this, is Anaal Nathrakh, so is there anyone that can do it somewhere near their level, or, if such a thing is possible, better, than them?

The only band I know that can pull it off well would probably be early Kataklysm. Give Sorcery a try.

It's hard to top Anaal Nathrakh, but give earlier Gorgasm and the latest Pathology album (Age of Onset) a try. Brutal as all fuck, but with some quality melodic passages.

Have you ever tried Intestine Baalism?
It's not THE most brutal, but it has it's still brutal (with a bit more of an old-school vibe), and some of the BEST melodies I've ever heard. Might be just what your'e looking for. Particularly the album called Banquet in Darkness. Some killer death metal right there.

neither are really brutal, but check out Benighted and Kronos if you already haven't.

I might be really far off here, but Dismal Divinity are the band that I usually think of when I am looking for something brutal

Might not be looking for funeral doom exactly but Ahab is pretty brutal, real heavy but has lots of beautiful melodies. Check out the song Old Thunder. Probably best example. Sorry if it's not exactly what your after not sure exactly what you are after.

Is it possible Mangled Torsos' debut could be up your ally? I suppose they can be brutal yet melodic at times.

Heaven Shall Burn. A Melodic Death Metal/Metalcore band with an insanely bone-crushing, epic sound.
