I couldn't imagine it not being about the new album, Luc Lemay said the album should be released Spring 2013 a couple months back...

In addition to new music, I wonder if they'll also reissue Obscura on CD. Sure they already reissued it on vinyl but I know a lot of other fans would like a CD as well.

Odd they reissued From Wisdom To Hate on CD but not Obscura yet.

You should've gotten it when it came out like I did! (sorry had to be a dick and gloat) but I wouldn't even mind it being re-released on cd just so I can have the joy of buying it again. I got the vinyl... which really ain't a reissue since it was never issued on vinyl to begin with.

If you want to be a snob about it, the term "reissue" generally doesn't take into account whether something has been pressed on a certain audio format before, so you can have a tape reissue of a CD, a CD reissue of a vinyl, and so on. This is Discogs' guidelines on the matter, at least, and they're the net's biggest music-collecting nerds, so in this case I'm inclined to take their opinion as truth. :boo:

Anyways, on topic, I'm excited to hear what they've come up with now. I haven't heard that demo track that was released a couple years back, so aside from the Obscura comparisons I'm not sure what to expect. I'm sure it'll be great no matter what, though.

I can't believe you didn't hear the demo, it has no vocals but it's def. gorguts. a more developed obscura sound I thought.

Haha, yeah, it's always a bit of a cheat when bands are like 'hey everyone, we have an announcement to make! in a few days we'll be announcing something exciting!' I mean, come on, why the unneeded suspense JUST DROP A FUCKING ALBUM NOW.

Oh ye of little faith :p.

This news got me pretty excited yesterday. I think the hour is finally starting to fall upon us! For those of that don't know they played a new song in one of their sets in London (and no it's NOT the song they posted in 2011). Watch video at 25:30: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnp5VhZD4Ks

For a year of pre-determined stellar releases, a new Gorguts album would be the icing on the cake. My excitement is mainly due to the tone left by Obscura and the less chaotic From Wisdom to Hate, which I found to be equally as good. I'm a little hesitate to check out their back catalogue as those two albums were exactly what I wanted in terms of experimentation.

when i talked with luc last year at neurotic deathfest he told me just that he had issues getting the right label deal for both the new album and reissueing obscura on cd.

As an OSDM fan I think the first two are much better, the debut is rather plain, but Erosion of Sanity should still be exciting enough to be worth a listen for you. Nothing like the last two albums though, those are a totally different.

That's actually the new song they played on MDF, although I could swear there are some different arrangements midway through it. Thanks for the link anyway, fucking awesome show/set! The camera focusing on Luc and Kevin during the duo Inverted/Obscura is just wild, the way they pick and sweep and whatever the fuck they do... I just...

I like everything Gorguts made, although there's a clear separation between the first two and the others. There's still enough for any death metal fan to find in any of those releases though.

In all seriousness I have no idea what the difference is between the Olympic and the Slipdisc. I'd not even known there was a distinction. I'd assumed everyone has the same exact thing. The more you know.

I have that version you have scanned. i did get it when it came out, right from Olympic so I always figured that was the Olympic version....which is why I stated what I did... what makes it not Mercury since it's listed on there as well?

Well now I'm confused.

Maybe dreadmeat will cruise by and unpack the mystery of the Olympic versus Slipdisc versions. Discogs doesn't mention the latter. (And yes, despite my fantastic camera angling abilities, the Mercury/Polygram logo is on there, but cut off in the pic.)

Maybe dreadmeat is retarded listing off things that other uninformed people had asked or put down?

and I hate wintersun, garbage band releases garbage release slowly...frrt

This is actually the one instance that I've been anxiously waiting for this release ever since there was the starting of Luc and John jamming.

Same here man! I'm going to enjoy this regardless of how long I have to wait, as there will be Luc Lemay guitar riffs.

As a fan of Gorguts since Considered Dead (saw them open for Corrosion of Conformity & Cannibal Corpse in 91) . I've heard A few tracks from the new album (some w vocals some w/o). To me it's a nice blend of all eras of their catalogue. If you like this band you will definitely NOT be disappointed.

I really hate when bands don't give substantial updates. Considering the amount of time since From Wisdom, it's kind of their priority to give lengthy updates so people are aware and ready. Teasers for official updates are the worst.

I haven't followed directly from the band, only in here, but it seems like on the ninth they made an an announcement about a different announcement which was pictured regarding another, actual announcement... is that correct?

Guys, I've got an announcement. I'm going to be making an announcement about an upcoming announcement relatively soon, stay tuned for the announcement of the date in which I will be making said announcement. And if you're lucky, we might have a special guest announcement for you as well...

 This new Gorguts album is suffering from Wintersun Syndrome.

"We're writing new material again!"
"The songs sound great!"
"We're in the studio!"
"It's all recorded!"
"There have been some delays, but here it comes!"
"Stay tuned for an announcement!"
"It's been a long time since our last update, but we're still coming!"
"Here it comes....tomorrow!"
"More details later!"
"We need to work out some details, but this is our year!"
"Announcement soon!"
"The fifteen-year wait will definitely be worth it!"

Any rumours of Luc buying a synthesiser yet? Because that's probably a step in there at some point.

Sorry man, I didn’t see this comment a forum explosion killed my subscriptions.
Anyway since I just got a jewel case promo and sniffed around a bit it's pretty confusing.
I don't know this, but it's at least some info on the subject, or at least my opinion after looking at the 3 titles I have on these labels [Obscura, Harnessing Ruin and The Inexorable]

Olympic Recordings - the original USA label in Elgin [near Chicago], the most prominent branding on the releases
Slipdisc Records - Chicago based label, distribution and marketing
Mercury Records - Chicago based distribution and marketing [only? not a label?] owned by Polygram/Universal
Slipdisc and Mercury seem to be joined at the hip

[edited: wrong Serious Entertainment, there's a Canadian one too]
Serious Entertainment - the original European record label and distributor it seems [the 1999 reissue]

SLK I'm probably not retarded mate ha ha
