Can anyone recommend any good streaming metal radio stations? All the ones I come across play total garbage mixed with the occasional Iron Maiden song.

I was just running my mind through a course of thoughts and I started to ponder about brutal technical death metal. Isn't the problem with this genre that it's just very mechanical? When someone is trying so hard to sound brutal, and to have precise, proficient playing, doesn't the expression of music get lost? I haven't listened to much technical death metal, because it's mostly not something I'd be interested in. Maybe someone else feels differently about technical death metal. It would be cool to know how the genre of technical death metal came to be, which I'm about to go look up in rateyourmusic.

There's one that I'm in with called Total Metal Radio. One of the DJs, Mike Vittoria (I call him Kill), is an open, professed fan of my former band's material and wants the exclusive song debut of whenever Blasphegram (my new band with Cole from Lago) has stuff recorded. He plays a lot of metal from every era, and he shows a lot of appreciation for things like old school hardcore punk and classic traditional metal. His show's on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM.

I think the evolution of technical death metal is something that is more natural then most people think. Metal is already pretty technical and like bands using blast beats and playing faster it eventually evolved into bands like Brain Drill and Viraemia playing ridiculously technical. Also combined with thrash metal becoming technical in the late 80's the change makes sense.

Structure wise there's nothing technical about bands like Brain Drill. It's just the same four or five sweep picking and tapping sections over and over again for four minutes while a drum machine blasts underneath, with an occasional tremolo picking section or breakdown thrown in there.

I'm more or less talking about the techniques involved not really the songwriting/composition side of technical music.

potential gigs coming up this year:
Deicide
Repulsion/Necrophagia
cattle decapitation/cryptopsy/decrepit birth
Dead Can Dance.

Already got tickets to see kreator and my bloody valentine this year. Probably won't go to Deicide, but my dad's pretty intent on going.

TGA'S DAD: SON, we're going to Deicide! And I don't wanna hear another word about it!

haha. He goes to lots of metal gigs. 2012 he went to Cannibal Corpse, Marduk, Anaal Nathrakh and Dark Fortress with me. Thing is as much as I like Deicide, it's nowhere near as much as those other three gigs, and with not working full time I probably can't afford to go to all 4. He either doesn't like or doesn't know the others, so wouldn't be much point him going. It costs me triple to get to London from uni than it does from home too.

Think rather than getting tickets in advance for these gigs I'll just see what's up nearer the time regarding money and uni.

Did you go see Marduk but not Immolation last year???

Saw both when they played Camden Underworld. I like Immolation more than Marduk myself actually.

Nice man, that rules. I'll bet those were some kickass shows; I've heard Marduk is excellent live, and I could believe it.

Did anyone ever think about how weird it is that this forum continuously has 40/50 unregistered visitors? What are they doing? Are they just looking at us talking? Or are just all checking out the rec threads? Are they afraid of ShaolinLambKiller? What is it?

Marduk were really excellent, and better than I expected them to be, but for me Immolation were a tad better. Probably a bias as I prefer them, and they opened with close to a world below which is one of my favourite songs in all of DM.

Finally got around to ordering myself a copy of Rising by Rainbow yesterday. Been meaning to get it for years. Should come this week, getting it on vinyl.

I don't know how search engines are counted in the visitor count, I'm pretty sure you can also see that bots are displayed/labeled as such in the list of active users. A lot of people use the site without being registered, as you can see from the number of reports by visitors. People browse but don't post/aren't registered, and people also get directed here by search engines when they're looking for something specific about bands/releases (I often find MA threads in searches). They're probably also afraid of SLK, I occasionally browse a number of other musicians forums and people seem to be afraid of MA (probably because they get run out of town for talking about djent).

Since a child, I have always dreamed to get into that Opera House. And seeing Dead Can Dance there

I should be seeing them this summer in a 2000-year-old roman amphitheater, which is quite a nice spot with a perfect sound (you can hear a coin fall on the stage from the higher seats - damn Romans).

The venue they're playing at in London is seating or standing. At most gigs I go for standing, as I like moshing, headbanging and just going a bit mad. Can't really imagine DCD being that sort of thing in all honesty. Would it be better to get seated tickets? I've never sat down at a gig before. You're all pretty much talking me into going

My roommate continuously plays the pentatonic scale over Motown hits and Marvin Gaye. It's driving me insane. It's the only thing he can apparently do on the guitar, just play really annoying solo sections over really annoying songs.

We need his email address. There are a few Limp Bizkit tabs he definitely needs.

Dead Can Dance playing at the opera house would be amazing. It may have just been because I was quite young, but I vividly remember it being huge. This year I really hope I can make it out to Stella Natura outside of Lake Tahoe. You know, cause of that superb line up.

If you guys enjoy Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, Monster Magnet, etc, you should really check out the new Enos' album All Too Human. I've been following them for quite some time (about 3 years now) and they deserve every bit of recognition they receive.

/shameless super-fan gushing

Edit: Collisions is my favourite song off All Too Human, if anyone cares :-P

My roommate blasts dubstep at night when I'm trying to sleep via work at 4:00 in the morning. Shits lame.
