Quote:
Greek extreme metal veterans ROTTING CHRIST will release their eleventh full-length studio album, "Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy" ("Do What Thou Wilt"), on March 5, 2013 (four days earlier in Europe) via Season Of Mist. The band spent more than four months at Deva Soundz studios in Athens crafting what it says "may be its darkest and more mystical and occult outcome ever." The CD was mixed by Jens Borgen (AMON AMARTH, PARADISE LOST, KATATONIA, OPETH) at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden.

"Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy" track listing:

01. In Yumen - Xibalba
02. P'unchaw Kachun - Tuta Kachun
03. Grandis Spiritus Diavolos
04. Kataton Demona Eaftou
05. Cine Iubeste Si Lasa
06. Iwa Woodoo
07. Gilgames
08. Rusalka
09. Ahura Mazda Anra Mainiuu
10. 666

I'll never doubt the quality of Rotting Christ's music, but that artwork fucking sucks.

That artwork has to be the laziest, most uninspired shit I've seen in a while. If it reflects the music therein, I will be very disappointed, indeed.

Man, that artwork is lame. But then, I don't think Rotting Christ will disappoint. They just don't disappoint, do they?

Holycrap, fuckyes to the new album announcement!

The album art is boring as an album cover but my mind is racing and I'm picturing it as an uber cool bra-breast-plate sort of merch for girls. Am I the only who can see it?

Cool. Album art blows balls. But, that being said, I'm crazy exciting.

No they don't. Bring it on. I can't wait to hear it!

I don't mind the artwork. Simple, sure, but not a deal breaker.

One of the few bands with a long discography full of masterpieces
this wont be the exception despite the awful artwork

Awesome, I loved their last few releases, Theogonia especially. Hopefully there's nothing on this album like those retarded female vocals in Aealo (Nekron Lahes :puke: )
Don't mind the artwork either, I think it's pretty rad, but having nothing to do with the music I couldn't care less.

I think it shows a way darker and straightforward portrait than what we're used with Rotting Christ. They fucking rule and I hope this will be a more aggressive and rawer Theogonia. I dream with a more hellenic sound like Passage to Arcturo -until Triarchy.

Sounds typical, yes. Sakis has handled all or most production for a long time. Now if you mean instruments, then no. They lost their bass player for some reason, and he was in the band since the '90s. Other than that, I mean the band could essentially be the brothers for studio albums and live members on and off.

Well, I dont love the artwork but its not bad at all, its simple and darker. As far as I know its a good indication of the sound of this album album, according to Sakis it will be a very darker and rawer than the last albums.

I love Theogonia(my favourite one) and AEALO, so I will miss that sound, anyway its good to see that the band doesnt want to repeat the same concept so I keep muy expectations high, they dont usually fail.

How did I miss any news of this? Well, the artwork sucks.
No doubt the record will be excellent, though.

By the way, a literal translation of the album title is "According to one's own spirit". But it is the same as saying Do what thou wilt, stay true to one's spirit, etc.

Psst, those vocals were great. It was nice to see one of Greece's leading bands finally incorporate some actual Hellenic folk elements in their music. Our metal scene always lacked this.

The female cleans gave AEALO a heavy hellenic feeling, enhancing effectively the mythologic atmosphere of the album.

As much as I don't really like his work, I'd take a Seth Siro cover over this one any day of the week.

Man, I can't listen to the song 'til later on today! I want to hear it so bad! RC are one of my absolute favourite bands (with 4 albums I'd rate at over 90%), and they definitely have not been failing, being consistent throughout the 2000s too, even though Aealo was weaker than the ridiculously good Theogonia.

Could somebody do a quick mini-review on the new song, please? Interested to hear how it sounds, compared to their 2 latest releases and stuff, especially with the initial comments of Sakis in mind.

I enjoyed that. Sounds really inconclusive (like the last song on Theogonia) with that slow, monolithic intro, but then it goes into a blitz for the rest of the song. Identical to the formulas on Theogonia and AEALO. If you guys enjoyed those albums, then you'll like this track. No female vocals, too (whoo).

Oh, my freaking god. That was amazing. LOVE that main riff and that intro was awesome. If the whole album is like this, it could be top 3 Rotting Christ albums for me. I'm definitely getting this. Wow. Will listen to that again later for sure.

You can't go wrong with anything, to be honest. If you like Aealo, try Theogonia. One of my favourites is Genesis, though.

That new song is BEYOND FUCKEN AMAZING! The intro is epic, and the snare bashing parts are amazing! It has the iconic RC riffs and those dark clean vocals are AMAZING. I really can't stop listening to this song!

That's the only one I don't have. I should look into getting it if you think it's their best. Even if it's not their best, it'll still be anywhere from good to great. It's Rotting Christ.

The best Rotting Christ material? Passage to Arcturo - Thy Mighty Contract - Non Serviam - Triarchy of the Lost Lovers. From those, I like the best Passage and Non Serviam. Theogonia is another excellent album.

Rotting Christ has such a remarkable discography. Sanctus Diavolos alongside with Theogonia stand for me the pinnacle of their career. Of course their older albums such A Dead Poem or Triarchy of the Lost Lovers are timeless classics that have a special place in my heart. Although the aforementioned albums they accomplished something of sheer brilliance. This new track is nothing short of outstanding and of pure originality in my humble opinion. Aealo is the lowest point in their career I would say.

FUCK YOU ALL. This song is fucking awesome. Minimalist and awesome. The first minute is perfection.

Also, Triarchy of the Lost Lovers is audible perfection. I stand by every word in my review of it.

I'm getting the same vibe from this news, too, and I don't mind it a bit. A Genesis influence especially would be welcome, since it's been right at a decade now since Rotting Christ has delved into that sort of sound.

The last song on Aealo wasn't that great but I thought the rest was still really good.

Despite that, still pumped as for this release based on the opener.

Some very light googling has made me more curious about possible themes of this album, and how the music will reflect them. Initially I did some searching to see if any of these titles were covers of obscure songs -- since RC have so far redone Current 93 and the aforementioned Diamanda Galas. No luck there, really, though "Cine Iubeste Si Lasa" seems to be Romanian for "who loves and leaves" and exists as a poppy and decidedly non-Rotting Christ-type song by some Romanian band called Urma, as well as this rather eerie thing by a Bucharest-born "singer of Romanian folklore," Maria Tanase. It's this latter element that interests me, as several of these RC song titles seem to refer to various ancient cultures and their folklore.

Apparently a rusalka is a water sprite or demon in Slavic mythology, Xibalba is the ancient Mayan underworld, "P'unchaw Kachun - Tuta Kachun" means "let there be day - let there be night" and is the first line of an Incan hymn entitled "Prayer to the Sun," and Gilgamesh and Ahura Mazda/Angra Mainyu, more familiar names, are from Sumerian and Zoroastrian creation mythos. I predict liner notes in the style of Karl Sanders.

tl/dr: I have too much free time.

Weren't those vocals performed by Diamanda Galas? I haven't really kept up with the band too much as their recent albums don't please me (fantastic live show though, always!), but that's still pretty neat, getting such a legend to sing on their record...
