Are there any newer bands that sound similar to how Morser used to sound circa Two Hours to Doom - that whirlwind of hardcore / deathgrind / whatever ?

bonus points if it sounds like Acme

In general, Im looking for newer bands similar to the original 'Bremen' sound

This is a recommend/request post. For anyone who has not hear Cancerslug, now is the time to start. Srsly. For anyone who has I am looking for bands who are similar/in the same vein.

Cancerslug youtube videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOHMQNg ... ure=relmfu
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tn7ozCjJxuU

fuck it, just download the whole "Tales of a Butcher" album.

Cancerslug is from my town... It's weird how popular they are, simply because I always knew they were fairly well-known, but not as well-known as they apparently are... Like, not even remotely close.

I think they're great and all, but they are such a niche-specific band, it seems strange that they have such a large following, especially considering it seems they are more popular out of town than they are locally (that is to say, people love them here, but they don't shit their pants over the prospect of a Cancerslug show or anything, you know?).

I wish the local scene here was not so fucking stagnant now. Seems like we had a lot going on a few years ago, and now almost nothing. All our "big" bands have either moved away, broken up, or are seemingly only really popular in Europe or the other end of the country or something weird like that.

I haven't even seen Daikaiju in ages, and that's a band that has played locally seemingly all the fucking time... I can't count how many times I've seen them play the exact same set list over the years, haha... I really miss that!

Anyone willing to throw some more names at me?

So you mean entombedcore?

New Lows is a good band. Got the swedish DM meets modern hardcore kind of feel. Great band. I've heard All Pigs Must Die is another similar band with the swedish sound. New Harm's Way sounds like nu-metal to me but their earlier stuff is amazing. I second Weekend Nachos and In Disgust. Get the In Disgust/P.L.F. split. Tis a shame ID broke up before releasing a proper full length.

You might want to check out Krum Bums. They did a tour with Toxic Holocaust last year and they were fucking awesome. The production on their recordings is a little too clean at times, but otherwise it seems like you might be into 'em: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc9ewaHwfMY

I'm looking for some indie-esque hardcore. Stuff like Departures, Suis la Lune, Kings at Heart, The Greek Favourites, and Birds in Row. Preferably more screaming than singing, and faster than slower. Can anyone help me?

Feel like I'm the only one who really dislikes this brand of hardcore . Really overproduced in a way that makes it more "metal." bands like The Secret do this too. I don't know, sounds like all those awful relapse grind bands with dbeats instead of blast beats. Am I alone here?

I've never liked The Secret, but Gaza are pretty awesome. I should be seeing them in December, actually.

Ecocide: These guys are cool, shame they broke up. The female vocalist also plays violin. They have a pretty unique sound, they mix crust punk with the Neurosis sound and some occasional black metallish tremolo riffs. Their album is fantastic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3rjolvgpFM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_jrQYZNlqE

Is Nausea too obvious? They have a really good dynamic between the male and female vocalists. A classic of the genre, these guys have made some of the best and grittiest crust punk ever.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Oq0e4WWQsA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLOg5FVYHBQ

I know there's a few more good ones but they are slipping my mind at the moment. I'll post them if I remember.

Edit - me and FleshMonolith posted at the same time so I didn't see his Nausea post. Skarp is great, kind of forgot about them.

Hey i never really listen to punk before, but i am curious to check it out. I am huge Traditional heavy/speed/power/thrash metal guy. What would be a good 70s or 80's punk band to listen to being a metal fan and being new to punk.

70's or 80's punk for a metalhead?

70's
Misfits (majority of their output's in the 80's but handful of songs date from the 70's)

70's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoGuJi5jmmA
80's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSavJ85fDyg

The Damned
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QCjytw9u3c

Stiff Little Fingers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKsN5cj9ehs

The Germs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG5xHpJPSNo

80's
Discharge for sure. The basis for a lot of 80's metal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0WgrGRawcQ

G.B.H
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DODDYP-b7oY
Dead Kennedys
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KTsXHXMkJA

Doom (one of the first crust punk bands)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhnv5fDMopc

The Exploited
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ka0N7YZG4Vc

Bad Brains
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAJYARIngtg

Black Flag (particularly Damaged and earlier works)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxyEvWP7jHA

G.I.S.M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBHQkO4S_XU

Amebix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzBIJcEPzGg

There's a million other bands to list here, but these are probably offer a good starting point. Most punk and proto-punk of the 70's might not really appeal to you if you're looking for more metal things. But if you want to check out that stuff I highly suggest The Stooges as it's pretty messy.

The reason i say from the 70's and 80's is because i am trying to avoid people giving me those post hardcore and screamo bands. I not exactly looking for something heavy. Just something that is not too soft and closer to metal than usual but yet without being crappy. Just a good gateway band from metal to punk just to boarding my music and to see if this is something i would like to listen too.

I am curious to get into post-hardcore, but I have an aversion to "emo"-related stuff (for lack of a better descriptor).

For example, I listened to Alexisonfire's first album on recommendation; and while I enjoyed the guitarwork and musicianship, the clean vocal parts pretty much killed it for me (too "whiny" for my taste). The screaming I'm not a big fan of either, but I can tolerate it.

I also listened to older bands like Fugazi/Refused and enjoyed them a little bit more. So I basically want to know more big names in the genre, and mainly more modern bands with melodic guitarwork similar to Alexisonfire, but sans the whiny "emo" vocals that sadly seem to be the norm lately (clean vocals are ok if they are not too "whiny").

Post-hardcore and emo are a bit different in my book, but not knowing much about emo I'd suggest the following

Orchid (essential screamo)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GHPwnUGj0Q

Pg 99
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mahS6DCwy_U

Envy (jpn) later envy (what i've included) should appeal to you if you like post-metal/rock. earlier stuff is more in screamo territory.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNJP_moDkUA

Kaospilot
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31NcFpKE68g

Perth Express (lots of leanings towards metal)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBFqyZ5pmEk

Fall of Efrafa
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWYR9WuAuhU

Buried Inside post-hardcore/metal whatever sludge if you want to call it that

Newer band but I think you'd dig Iron Dogs (CAN). The kind of NWOBHM styled stuff that wears it's punk influence on it's sleeve. I would also HIGHLY recommend checking out English Dogs "Forward Into Battle"

I definitely reccomend Broken Bones as they are similar. Metal with an obvious punk influence.

Some other punk bands you might enjoy:

White Kross (crossover thrash/hardcore)
Corrosion of Conformity (Crossover punk, Animosity is the best)
Negative FX (Boston Hardcore very fast)
Jerry's Kids (Boston hardcore and one of my favorite Boston bands)
Antisect (Early crust/anarcho punk. Out from the Void is more metallic sounding.)
Void (fast hardcore)
The Wire (77 punk)

I've never really got into punk, but recently I fell in love with the debut by the finnish band Pää Kii (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-Z7Qs4lWNo). It's been playing non-stop in my car for the past week, so I'm looking for something similiar: fast, catchy, energetic and reeking of cheap beer. Any suggestions?

That band sounds sober as shit, but okay...

Try these blogs (I know I've posted those sites before, but they seem pretty appropriate, so whatever):

http://regionrockandmore.blogspot.com/?m=1
http://remoteoutposts.blogspot.com/?m=1
http://nostalgiaisntwhatitusedtobe.blogspot.com/?m=1

...and these bands I've posted ten times probably, nearly all featured on the above blogs:
Forced Vengeance http://youtube.com/watch?v=jq6wqesP8aE
Savage Weekend (find them on one of the first two blogs)
Dark Rides
Twat Sauce
The Grumpies http://youtube.com/watch?v=wCpqHGGHHpg
Rice Harvester http://youtube.com/watch?v=MU59NOqUaAo
Black Rainbow (the punk band, obviously)
Future Virgins
Hidden Spots

I'd probably do the same if I was at a Gaza show :-P

He okay?

He wasn't at the show. He got trashed and got called in for work... Which is a bad situation in itself but for some reason he tried going through a carwash and wrapped his car around an electrical box and totaled it when he realized it was snowing and a carwash would be a bad idea. Or something like that? None of us are too sure what happened as he was blacked out and there were no witnesses. Amazingly he got away with a broken nose.

Finally got to see Reno locals Out For War last night. Faaaack. So awesome.

Anyone have a list (or could compile a list for me out of the kindness of their heart) of Crust releases from 2012?

Thanks for the recs ZEROMETAL, FleshMonolith, and Delduwath. Loikaemie were pretty decent, and I liked Toxic Narcotic a lot. Krumbums were awesome, and I especially enjoyed their first album.

Cheers to you all.
