SICULICIDIUM - "Keringők (Valses) " 7" Ep 2012

Image

New Ep from the Transylvanian Black Metal kultur terrorists.
2 new , never published and special slow/midtempo songs with archaic horror style.

Side A - "Valse Triste" (lyrics by Weöres Sándor, music stolen from Swans)
Musically is a personal interpretation of SWANS – New Mind. Basic downtempo drums with a hypnotic riff and crypt-like crooning vocals. Lyrics were borrowed from Hungarian Avant-garde / Surrealist poet Weöress Sándor, and deals with the same cold horroristic imagery, the band is used to.

New video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iByMHsR1YKc

Side B - "Valse Ende".
Musically Valse Ende has a lot of influence of old fashion 80s doom, morbid 90s black metal mixed with horror influence (Death SS, Mortuary Drape, Barathrum, Beherit, Master’s Hammer, etc)
Lyrics deal with the special vision of Lugosi Béla about the fall of mankind, last days of humanity and the upcoming armageddon, dance of great Death, the last valse before doomsday, beutiful, grotesque, morbid & absurd.

Cover artwork & lay-out by Meriel Longmore (www.meriellongmore.co.uk)

great new review:

"Arriving in a limited edition 7” today we have Siculicidium’s EP titled “Keringők”. Featuring two tracks, this release has two different ‘reinterpretations’ of Swans iconic “New Mind”. Each track delivers quite disturbing sounding versions of this song that are very traditional to the band’s creepy Black Metal sound.

Opening with “Valse Triste” the band sets a very slow and painful pace. As you can instantly hear, the riffing closely resembles Swans original version, but the mournful vocals greatly enhance the experience. The Black Metal roots of the band are also very present has the song progresses, adding that extra level of personalization the band gives to the track. As unique as Swans original version was, we very much enjoyed this different interpretation of the song.

“Valse Ende” starts in a very similar fashion to the previous track, but now we are reminded of Mayhem’s “Freezing Moon” thanks to the bleak distorted guitars. This track goes on full speed for a while with some Punk-ish drums and harsh vocals courtesy of Nekrofuher. One minute longer than the first song, this track is definitely the standout of this release.

Short but sweet; this very unique EP is sure to become a hot collector’s item in the future so head over to Sun & Moon Records to order your own piece of history. Siculicidium is quite a unique band, and they demonstrate it with this very iconic release."

"This short, but condensed listening experience which is going to delight not only followers of black metal-oriented stuff, due to the most immediate association of musical references and its "occult" symbolism on "Keringok" (Hungarian plural for "waltz"), but also lovers of more sinister declensions of industrial and dark, comes from the Transylvanian band Siculicidium, named after the atrocious mass massacre of Madefalva (nowadays known as Siculeni, a village belonging to Harghita County in Romania) by the Habsburg army, whose memory is still vivid in the collective memory of that community. As you can imagine they're not certainly making fox-trot or happy techno, but they managed to be somewhat original in spite of the relative stalemate of that scene by a couple of macabre waltzes. The first one, "Valse Triste", comes from the idea of replacing the hieratic and ironically iconoclast sermon by legendary Michael Gira's Swans on their hit "The New Mind" with the icying words of a poem by Hungarian avantgarde and surrealist poet Weoress Sandor, while the second one, "Valse Ende", the half I prefer, drag aged sonoroties from 80ies doom and 90ies black metal (particularly Bathory, Mortuary Drape, Barathrum) up while the stunned sepulchral male voice manages to amplify the preposterous and morbid lyrics, which make live the disquieting vision of Armageddon after the disinternment by Bauhaus.
