Not sure if this has been done before - I did a search but didn't turn up anything.

Can anyone give me some covers of metal songs adapted by rock or pop bands? It doesn't have to be good - anything will do. However I don't want 1:1 adaptations copying the song, in fact the more different the better. Essentially, it shouldn't sound like a metal song. Doesn't have to be rock/pop either - any other genre than the heavy ones.

This is more like what I'm after:

No stupid "Idol" contests like this and no bedroom covers either please.

There's a band called Hellsongs that is purely devoted to doing mellow/pop versions of metal songs

Seasons in the Abyss - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LOarjz5EeY

Here's an indie pop duo performing Rainbow in the Dark - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoHTAluVoyo

Not rock or pop, but are you aware of Rondellus, an Estonian early music group who released an album of Black Sabbath covers? Fantastic.

I'm loving these. All great suggestions.

That Hellsongs rendition is totally unrecognisable as Slayer were it not for the lyrics.

Check Richard Cheese cover versions; The guy is hilarious and the band is great!

Also, check Hayseed Dixie, they make bluegrass and country covers of rock songs and original songs(They call their style "Rockgrass):

Not a band per se, but Andy Rehfeldt posts various songs (metal and pop), and rearranges them into a different style. Most of his metal covers are into "radio disney", with a few jazzier ones popping up.
Slayer - Angel of Death http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHo6I_AFCzo
Behemoth - Demigod http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E92zCs4sWto

Since then, other people have done the same thing

Forgot to mention The Mountain Goats recently perfomed a set of metal covers.

This Nightwish song (Bare Grace Misery) is the only one I could find posted to Youtube- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=606h21hrc9s

They apparently covered a Gorguts song as well, which would be interesting to hear.

Enjoying this very much. I never thought bluegrass and melodeath would go together so well. Thankyou!

Maiden united have done acoustic covers of Iron Maiden songs, and Anneke Van Giersbergen sings on some of them (wasted years and another one)

Tori Amos has covered Raining Blood, and Chelsea Wolfe has covered Spell of Destruction (Burzum). There's also this band called Acoustic Front that does death metal covers in sort of a lounge/swing style, here's one of them playing Autopsy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZllceJIc7jM.

Folkearth and Folkodia have done a couple albums that're non-metal versions of songs on previous albums.

No mention of Pat Boone? For shame!
