Did someone else noticed this?
-A Message to the Missionary from (2010) Skagos & Panopticon Split:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHyic6nwsTE

-Kingdom of Darkness from (1994) Abigor - Verwüstung - Invoke the Dark Age:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNoFBZdUGoA

The chant is the same but does anybody know what it is? Is it from a film?
Thanks!

The chant is the Dies Irae.
As for where does this particular sample come from, no idea...

Yup that's Dies Irae. You can also hear it on Sun of Hope by Funeral Mist.

As for the source of that particular rendition, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it must've been taken from a Jesus-gets-flayed-and-shit film.

EDIT: My bad, it's taken from The Seventh Seal.

Interesting...

P.S: By the way, (1994) Abigor - Verwüstung - Invoke the Dark Age is MUCH more amazing than I remembered!

Edit: Oops... my bad!

- The sample at the beginning of the song "Kingdom of Darkness" was taken from the movie "Det Sjunde Inseglet" (1957) by Ingmar Bergman.

Yeah, def. a fantastic album. I also like "Orkblut" a lot. After that I lost more and more interest in Abigor but those two albums are great!
Abigor aren't mentioned/recommended here on MA that often in general or are they?

If they aren't they always should be.

They got kind of gay after Opus IV, though.

The text to Dies Irae is part of the Catholic mass. This version is a pretty well known one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsn9LWh230k

It has also been used by all the great composers ever since, typically in requiems.
Here's Mozart's:

Verdi's:

And my favourite, Benjamin Britten's:

Indeed. And no, they didn't. I can see why their more "modern" (from Satanized onwards) material is disliked, but Supreme Immortal Art is mindblowing, and Channeling The Quitenssence Of Satan can be very rewarding if you can get into it.

Pretty sure that sample was used in a song by the band Uruk-Hai as well, heh.

It's far from a rare occurrence - Damien's monologue/invocation/prayer from Omen III - The Final Conflict is another one that pops up here and there (off the top of my head I can recall Cryptic Winds and Anaal Nathrakh using it, but I'm sure I've heard it on at least one more record I own).
