Below the Lights still stands out a lot in my mind - the first Enslaved album I listened to, and still one of my favorites. It's atmosphere is truly sincere and different.

First Enslaved album?!? REALLY?!?
Mine was (1998) Enslaved - Blodhemn but, them, I went from old to new albums.

Never really seen anything interesting in this guys but... it's more agressive than I remembered.

Abnormality - A Chaos Reserved

All that talk about female fronted BDM bands in that 'Som' thread made me wanna listen to Abnormality's latest album.

Crimson Glory - Lonely

Their self titled really clicked after revisiting it. Now let's see if this will click too.

I prefer the self titled to Trascendence, though the latter is still a treasure of USPM, and well, metal in general. I think you'll love it, once you give it enough time to sink in.

Toxik - There Stood the Fence, off Think This

Who would've thought that a band known for creating some of the most ridiculously insane technical thrash could write such a beautiful and touching ballad?

Doing a bit of a German/Austrian black metal tour today. Mostly stuff I already listened to and am revisiting.

Right now: Hunengrab im Herbst by Nagelfar

Vulvagun - Union of the Snake, off Cold Moon Over Babylon

By Anubis, I love this band's lyrics. Mystical, sinister, and full of metaphors, while still being engaging as hell. And yeah, the fact that the music if insanely fucking awesome also helps :-D I still would seriously consider picking a different name if I were them, though. Babylonian Moon would suffice, me thinks. It doesn't mean shit, but it still sounds better than Vulvagun.

Unfortunately, their lyrics AREN'T about vulvaguns. Talk about wasted potential.

I'd much rather read lyrics about Babylonian demons and magic rituals than lyrics about weapons made out of female genitalia, thank you.

Everything in this post reeks of win.

Have I mentioned how much I fucking love this band?

Hour Of Penance - Sedition - Decimate The Ancestry Of The Only God

I forgot this album even came out this year. I had only listened to it once or twice then misplaced it. Found it today. Awesome 2012 release for sure. Sedition may of been over shadowed by some of the other heavy hitter acts this year but its another top notch release by Hour Of Penance.

Why thank you, sir :-D Also, Anacrusis are a seriously cool band, and horribly underrated to boot. Screams and Whispers in particular kicks metric tons of ass :metal:

Trail of Murder - Carnivore, off Shades of Art

It's official; I'm addicted to this song, period.

Job For A Cowboy - Demonocracy - Fearmonger

I have been very impressed with Demonocracy. The musicianship has grown leaps and bounds. Crazy bass lines. Awesome guitar leads. I was always a fan but they really have grown better and better with each release. I guess the rotating line ups have been for the best. I hope this one is permanent.

I know right? It's a beautiful track that pulls on the heartstrings. Definitely top 3 songs off that album for me.

Death Strike - Pay to Die

Sounds more thrashy than on the Master record; still, a really great song.

Great band, they were awesome live! I'm lucky I can say that I've seen their first North American show! Yvonne has golden satanic princess hair!

Lucky you are indeed!

I am now listening to something quite different, if distantly related.

Orden Ogan - Land of the Dead. This is the power metal song of the year for me. Everything about it is perfect.

Motorpsycho & Ståle Storløkken - Into The Mystic

One of the big surprises in this year... I just wished the second disc had a better balance between calm and straightforward songs, it drags on a little bit too long in the first half.

Stellar band though...

Cannibal Corpse - Sentenced To Burn

Pile the bodies
Set them aflame
The human race
Sentenced to burn!!

Maaaan this album is brilliant, though this grinding, pounding monster is the winner for me with that chain-driven rhythm verse section, loaded with killer (hehe) hooks.

^ YESSSSSSSS. Soooo many awesome hooks on that damn album. Just riff after riff after riff.

Craft - Fuck the Universe

Terrible album title, terrible song titles. ASS KICKING-RIFFERY. "Demonspeed" will tear your head off.
