I love a lot of prog metal, but I'm curious if there are any bands that manage to be metal but still sound strongly influenced by bands like ELP, Yes, Camel, and the like. I know that a lot of the high profile prog bands have similarities to these like Dream Theater (obviously) but I'm looking for a band with a more direct similarity to those bands.

Dan Swano has brought in varying amounts of 70s prog influence into his works - this is most notable on his album Moontower, but can be heard in Edge of Sanity, Nightingale and Unicorn (although the latter is not metal).

Closest might be Riverside, Anti-Depressive Delivery, and Pain Of Salvation's latest two: Road Salt I & II.

Oh, and Subterranean Masquerade really had a 70s thing going on.

Borknagar since Empiricism and Vintersorg since Visions from the Spiral Generator, also Vintersorg's Waterclime project though it's only borderline metal.

Brilliant stuff. I would add stuff like Blood Ceremony, UFOmammut and Samsara Blues Experiment but I don't know if doom/prog/sludge/stoner metal is really what you are looking for. I personally can't listen to 10s of Dream Theater.

Am Universum by Amorphis is quite 70s sounding, especially the keyboards. They have a kind of Deep Purple thing going on on that album. It's certainly not an extreme metal album though!

Full Moon is what you're looking for. Their debut is excellent stuff in that vein. Sanctus (UK) has sort of a prog rock vibe too if I recall.
