I'm talking about artist like Josephine foster, Diane cluck, the metallic falcons, and Jesse Sykes. I stumbled onto a lot of these bands through pandora radio and fell in love with them. Jesse Sykes I discovered through Boris/sunn O)))'s Altar collaboration and just really started to like her stuff. Im curious if anyone else likes artist like these. Here are a few songs by some of them

Interesting - I'd always used the term "neo-folk" to reference post-industrial stuff like Death in June, Current 93 etc, rather than either anything metal influenced or whatnot.

Yes, but there are plenty of Black Metal bands who have Neofolk side projects. I can understand where this guys coming from.

Current 93's early '90s material (Thunder Perfect Mind, Of Ruin or Some Blazing Starre, Lucifer Over London) is pretty psychedelic. I'd recommend it to the OP if they're not already familiar.

On the psych-folk side of things, I really like Sylvester Anfang from Belgium, as well as some of their side projects (Hellvete, Ignatz).

For psychedelic folk I go for original stuff from the late 1960s-early 1970s:

The Trees, I've heard a few attempts at covering this song here, all pale in comparison:

Forest:

Since the first song in this thread reminded me of her, I'll give you some Elyse Weinberg:

If you got this far and you like everything, you might also want to check out Melanie and Donovan if you haven't heard them musically.

I'm not really sure what neo-folk means, but here is some stuff which might fit and you might like:
Dark Sanctuary, really more neo-classical than folk:

Elane, folk/medieval, with occasional electronics, great stuff:

Couldn't agree more with elfxxxxx above, Forest, and especially Trees, are gems. You could very easily be convinced that some Trees songs are several centuries old.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Comus. I have been trying very long to find another psychedelic folk band that matches them in perversity and musicianship, I have never found one.

The only modern folk outfit along these sorts of lines that does it for me is SOME Alisdair Roberts (though he is a bit hit and miss).

Another great 70s psych-folk band was Stone Angel. Not as good as Forest perhaps, but still worthy:

For something more recent, you may like Relig Oran, they are rooted in the traditional folk sound, with occasional neo/psych flourishes:

More great psych-folk: Jim Holmberg. An interesting story surrounding him too.

Illuminations by Buffy Sainte-Marie was also a pretty trippy and awesome album:

Ora is also worth checking out, even if they're a bit inconsistent:

Kinit Her, some great recent ritualistic neo-folk.

And Wreathes, a related project to Kinit Her which is good too.

When you say "non-metal", you mean any other genre?

Generally referring to bands that arent side projects, or are related to metal. More psychedelic and experimental bands if that helps.
