So the Kentucky-based black metal band Panopticon has elements of black metal and bluegrass on their Kentucky album; "blackgrass," if you will.

Does anyone know of any other blackgrass artists? Those who combine the two genres, or even bands that simply play both genres on an album?

I don't know about any blackgrass bands, but I do know a great black metal band with a southern/blues vibe. Glorior belli: http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Glo ... 05#Reviews

Probably not what you are looking for, though.

I actually really like Glorior Belli! Yeah, I do know there are a handful of black metal bands with a southern vibe, I definitely like that sort of sound as well.

But yeah, I was more or less looking for black metal artists who more specifically played 'blackgrass,' or some bluegrass pieces. Good band though, nonetheless.

I can tell you right now that it's not out there. "Kentucky" is the closest there is in existence.

Nothing out there?

About This Project

A casual conversation that I had with my friend Andrew sparked a simple, yet profound idea:

what if we combined bluegrass and black metal?

The unique challenges involved with combining such drastically different musical genres has inspired and compelled me. I am wholly dedicated to making this happen… or finding out why it fails.

This blog will chronicle the process of creating Blood and Banjos, writing a story album, and producing what I hope will be some interesting, if not enjoyable, music.

Click here to start from the beginning, and click NEXT at the bottom of the page to read along.

I welcome all encouragement and criticism alike. Thanks for reading!

Funny how this was the first result from google for "bluegrass black metal" ;)

Ah, now there's something! Thanks for that, I'll definitely check it out. Beyond that I guess I'll have to accept that 'blackgrass' isn't much of a thing, at least not right now.

there's a one man band hidden somewhere in Central Illinois by the name of Blood Cult (VERY original) that kinda fuses bluegrass and black metal. I think he refers to the music as Hillbilly black metal... alotta the stuff has an old country western flair to it with some darkthrone-esque black metal moments

Blood Cult isn't bluegrass, it's more pysche rockish. Also I've been pimping the Rev's bands for years!

Good rec for general purposes.

I'll give Blood Cult a shot, anyway. And thanks, bloodandbanjos for the link. I also partially answered my own question and found two other bands - Thee Hobo Gobbelins (http://hobogobbelins.bandcamp.com/), which are clearly kind of a joke band, and Wolves in the Woods (http://www.reverbnation.com/wolvesinthewoods), who actually go as far as to call their music blackgrass.

At any rate, thanks for the recommendations.
