Senmuth should cover Merzbow's entire discography. It would be finished within a few months.

Are covers of noise songs actually a thing?

I dunno. I've seen Power Electronic covers frequently enough, but that isn't necessarily Noise.

Nope, no covers.

Well, yeah sometimes there's like an ironic "cover" but realistically speaking, there are tons and tons of people doing remixes or "Band X does Band Y" type of songs/albums.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK, the new Enslaved is amaziiiiing!!!!

edit: I know it's a juvenile post, but I don't have words, honestly. This band cannot fail. 3 amazing albums in a row, but this one is probably the summit. A perfect mix of their sound.

Finally bought a 160gb ipod. Had to happen eventually I guess, and will come in handy for DJ-ing purposes (so I'm not lugging around valuable cds...).

I've had my 160GB iPod for ages. I've dropped it several times, too, and the thing is still kicking. I love it, and I can only wish that in time Apple releases something even larger.

I had to do it when I got my first iPod, and that was when my collection was very small compared to today. Even that took a very, very long time. Listen to music while you rip so it's not as much of a chore!

I just had my laptop die again and I have 500+ cds so talk about a long time, can't I connect my Ipod to another persons Itunes and sync their material to my 80gb without having it delete my songs? I think it worked for me before, a friend of mine has a shitload of NWOBHM shit I want to rip to my device.

Can't help with that Veracs, as I'm a ipod newbie. I don't have a massive collection (about 900 or so cds I think) compared to others on this forum, but it's still going to be laborious - and I'll want to rip all my vinyl too.

As long as it doesn't delete all my shit. That would be horrible. Its a pain in the ass not having a laptop especially when you got shitloads of new music coming in damn compulsory buying habit...

My advice: either host a media server or invest in an external hard drive. Best way to rip music, hands down.

Saw Fear Factory live last night. Burton's cleans are not what they used to be, or at least his voice was a little fucked, but they didn't sound as good as they could've. Nevertheless it was a good trip down memory lane, and they played a couple of newer tracks. I was hoping they'd play more from Mechanize but it doesn't matter. Good stuff.

I figured I'd post this here as I didn't think it warranted its own thread.
First of all, let me start off by saying this post is not about whether "Guilty of being White" is a racist or politically incorrect song. All I want to know is what Slayer's intention was when at the end of their cover of this song they changed the lyrics to "Guilty of being Right". Is it a reference to Slayer being conservative?

Well, I'd say it's a bit difficult for Slayer to be conservative to the degree of reaching racism considering they have two Latino members on their ranks (Tom is Chilean, and Lombardo Cuban). I do know that Kerry King is quite the homophobe though, so that could mean something.

EDIT: Wait a sec! You mean that they say "guilty of being right" as in "guilty of being from the right wing"?

 I doubt it, man. But I guess you can interpret that in any way you want, and the band is probably happy to keep it that way. I sure would never answer that question if I were in Slayer and someone asked me what we meant!

Yeah, I don't think that's very plausible either. I was simply asking if that's what Markoff meant with his question.

Yeah I did mean that. I'm sure I've read that Slayer are conservatives (I could be wrong though, it's not like I follow what they believe very closely). Furthermore, there are plenty of right winged Latinos.

Yeah, but that line seems like it would imply some kind of racist ("racist" as in "white supremacist") sympathies along with the conservative views, something that doesn't make sense in a band were half of the members aren't caucasian.

Well of course, being right-wing is not something exclusive of europeans and americans. And there is also plenty of "white latinos".

I disagree. The reason I asked the question in the first place was because I thought that maybe Slayer used the word "right" as if they were to say that using the term was a dirty word.

Nah, I don't think so. That sounds far too subtle for a band like Slayer.

The link to the interview where he said that is broken though.

I'd love to hear some Egyptian metal again; Sekenenra slayed. Or some more trippy ambient in the vein of Weird and Chambers.

Rather than rip all my CDs when I bought my new laptop last month, I copied my entire music folder (around 40 GB) onto my friend's external hard drive, then copied that onto the laptop. Took about 40 minutes, which I'd have to imagine would be faster than re-ripping everything manually (granted, it'd still take longer for all you with huge collections. :P )

That's the best answer I've heard so far. Are there any other examples of Slayer joking around?

I honestly think he's just become really interested in the oddly timed math metal thing. Even Akhet Mery Ra has a lot of songs with riffs that are foreshadowing that evolution in his style, but I think after the (deservedly) successful reception of Hexeractime he wanted to start experimenting with it a lot more. Which is not to say he's bad at it -- a song like "White Noise of Black Lie" off his new one "Sacrumental" is really awesome. I love his guitar tones a lot of the time. For a guy so interested in electronics and folk music, he writes some fucking brutal riffs.

Interesting, didn't know they'd ever actually commented on why they changed it. I always figured it was changed as a nod to agreeing with Mackaye's sentiment of how being blamed for the racist actions that ocurred "100 years before he was born" and that he had no part in was ridiculous... as in Mackaye was "guilty of being right."

I don't get the Neo-Nazi obsession with Slayer... One numbskull here got all mad when I let him know that there were two people in the band of Hispanic origin.

Also, new modem! Super fast internet now. Or at least compared to the old one.

Eh, nothing all that interesting. I'm joining a frat next week, which pretty much makes me one of the least metal people on the planet.
