Spawn Of Possession comes immediately to mind but you might not have heard of:

Monumental Torment.

I know I've asked for psychedelic death metal before but this time I want something pretty specific. Lately I've been digging tech-deathy stuff with strong psychedelic influences like Gigan, Orbweaver and Apocryphon. I will be eternally grateful if you point me in the direction of more music in that vein.

Wicked Innocence's Omnipotence?

Very spacey, yet brutal death metal. The clean vocals/spoken word segments are especially cool. I dunno if it's too obvious.

Not really what I'm looking for, but quite interesting nonetheless. And not too obvious at all, never heard of the band before.

Hi all! Can anyone recommend left-wing old school death metal (not necessarily from the 80s/early nineties, 21st-century old school bands are good too)? I'm pretty new to death metal, hence as yet ignorant of classics.

Basically old school death metal with socialist/anarchist/communist/environmentalist lyrics, or generally expressing dissent (think Napalm Death, but death metal).

Oh, that left-wing. :)

Have you tried the advanced search by lyrical content? It's probably a faster way to get what you're looking for.

I'm not a fan of slam death, or at least most of what I've heard but I like this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yum5R1ELlrw&feature=player_embedded (haven't really checked them out as a band yet but I like these guys so far)
So catchy cool shit like this is what I want. Preferably not too generic, and I'm not much of a fan of SUPER low growls so try to avoid that if possible.

Also, I'm looking for some BDM like Putrilage and early CC
example:

also, funny as fuck grind/pornogrind/gore/etc is always welcome; torsofuck, anal cunt, etc
laughing is... fun xD

Devourment - Molesting the Decapitated ~ Butcher the Weak
Short Bus Pile Up - Repulsive Display of Human Upholstery
Skewered - Skewered
7.H. Target - Fast-Slow Demolition
Skinless - Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead
Intestinal Strangulation - Pathological Brutalistic Fermentation

Some classics and some new(ish) stuff, but all great. Some of them are rather low in the vocal department, but these are some of my favorite slam/bdm records right now. If you like these, then welcome to the brain-dead clan of slam :-D

Oh and check out all of Ingesting Putridity - that VD album - It's fucking killer.

I can only think of Atheretic at the moment. It's probably not what you're looking for musically.

Could anyone recommend some death metal covers of originally black metal songs? Listening to Vaders cover of Freezing Moon and was curious.

Demonical's cover of Emperor's Night of the Graveless Souls is quite good.

Also Illdisposed's and Emperor's coverversions of Darkthrone's "Cromlech" are awesome, though the original song is not Black Metal I admit, but a must-hear.

And finally: Runemagick's cover of Tiamat's Malicious Paradise is fantastic.

Indeed. That album is easily one of the best when it comes to modern DM for me. Been awhile since I've listened to it, think I'll give it a spin tonight.

Being a long-time fan of D.R.I., I know the term 'crossover thrash', meaning a combo of thrash/punk. Looking up the band Loathe (from Malta) today, they're called Death Metal/Crossover. Never seen this term before. What does it mean? Death Metal/Punk? Or what? Thanks.

Maybe they combine elements of death metal and crossover? I bet if you listened to it you could tell.

Winter is death/doom metal. I bet overtly leftist OSDM is rather scarce, but in any case if I asked for old school death metal, Winter would hardly cut it.

Well. Doesn't that look like fun. Pretty sure you know of Pungent Stench yes? This is the only song of theirs I know (thankfully) that indulges in this nonsense.

This is a recommendation to all death metal fans This album is called rotting in hell from deteriorate. The vocals are hoarse and it sounds wicked. I believe the album is some what of a rarity. It took me a while to find it. It's a mainstay on my playlist though; has been for years,

how about:

Image

it's always a good time to sing along to this:

"Ass in the air, turd ring dialating
Matted butt hair, anal vapor rising
Give it a squeeze, my feast is emerging
Give it to me, let's begin the purging

I open my mouth and catch it as it drops
I chew and chew and love it brown and soft
I squish the crap between my teeth with my tongue
With a shit eating grin I'll lick 'til clean your bung

I'm a shit eater

Steaming chunky hunk of log
Taste it smell it eat it all
Maybe one turd maybe two
Whatever I can get from you"

Hey everybody, I'm not sure if it'd be better to ask about this in here or the progressive metal thread, but no big deal.

I would like to hear some crazy avant-garde death metal like this. I would prefer to hear it with some symphonic elements, such as piano (or in the case of Gorgut's song, viola) but performed in a way that sounds nightmarish and insane. Augury's early use of operatic female vocals is also a good example of what I'm looking for. Basically taking orchestral instruments and using them to make the technicality of the music more intense.

Try Phlebotomized's debut album, not as fast or as technical but it has some of the elements you describe.

I'm looking for more brutal "slam" death metal similar to defeated sanity. I'm not well versed in the genre and it would be great to actually know more bands.
