THOUSAND YEAR WAR (U.S.) "Tyrants and Men" DIGI CD review by http://www.skullsnbones.com

Image

By Luther Lazaretto

Melodic Death Metal band Thousand Year War reaches out from the cold lands of Haines, Alaska to deliver a most exciting release "Tyrants and Men" to the metal world. From the start of this release the band unleash some angry riffs that just pummel you throughout the tracks. The anger at society and the political crruption seem to bring out the passion and crunching metal from Thousand Year War. Elements of early style thrash metal and even death metal stand out in influence. There is also that modern touch with the good production behind it that makes Thouisand Year War a great band to get into. Fans of Hatesphere or Detonation can relate to this band very easily. The emotion of head stomping anger is all over "Tyrants and Men" and nothing stops until the end. Sure there are a lot of bands playing the same style and manner as Thousand Year War, but the way these guys play brings out the likeness for me, and I like how they sound. Maybe this isn't the most original release, but the band can play their style very fucking well! Nothing about this release is boring at all, everything from each track makes a person want to go outside and kick sombody's ass! There are ten tracks totaling 40 minutes of Melodic tyranny and fans of the Melodic Death metal genre should enjoy this release very much. All the tracks are worthy of listen, but a couple did catch my attention like "Defiance" and "Open Casket" (not the Death song in 1988 from "Leprosy") Each track has a hard hitting metal madness with speed and ability. A great band to get into for the fans.

Rating: 9/10

ROCKING CORPSES (Finland) "Rock 'n' Rott" CD review by isk

Image

By Arnel Šarić Sharan

Ever since entombed presjajnog and "Wolverine Blues," there is a tendency to intervene in a delicious soup base rock'n'roll, troakordna nonsense that is closely associated with blues, and the fiercest form of heavy metal - death metal. Some did it well, some good, most bad because the majority forgets that it is to play rock and roll should not underestimate the three chords, as possessing much knowledge and skill to data from three chords do that miracle. Who does not believe, Motorhead and The Ramones to listen. You should have seen me after twenty years of his career. The above is perhaps the reason why I was not overly thrilled with the idea of the album "Rock'n'Rott" Rocking Corpses Finnish band, until I heard the album. And when I heard there was a salve for the youthful enthusiasm Finns on their debut failed to make a miracle - that the really tasty and fun way to combine rock'n'roll and death metal. But how? Most bands working this kind of combination makes a mistake in what they think is a good play rock'n'roll riff with death metal distortion (one of Entombed, one should not exaggerate). Rocking Corpses do not make that mistake - these is a bar in the song death metal and other rock and roll / blues with a corresponding distortion. Therefore, Corpses advocating an era of experimentation with distortion, ie sound and are not afraid to be different, which is more than commendable. Songs like "Necropolis" bring rock and roll solo parts, hard, krkansko death metal singing verses, but pjevljive great and memorable, clean choruses in the manner of all those sweet lafo Finnish bands that no one listens, and most of them admires that fail to make good and slušljivu thing. And this thing is a typical example of sound grown Rotting Corpses. "925" is a song for me the most astounding albums. With minimal impact in terms of death metal growl vocals back to the verses, the text-nonsense rock'n'roll people satrane by the capitalist system is as zombies in a perfect manner. Hear one morning when you're driving on public transport to work or school and everything will be clear. With this debut, Rocking Corpses have gained their first fans in Bosnia and Herzegovina. An album that is true, a band that is true - what a man needs more than a mid-tempo, rock and roll, old school death metal album that is one hundred percent inspired lirički zombie theme?

DISEIM (Latvia) "Holy Wrath" CD review by aristocraziawebzine

Image

By Mourning

Diseim I am a creature of Latvia finished in the roster of U.S. Abyss Records. The band has been active since 2007, but to hear something concrete we had to wait until 2012 with the publication of "Holy Wrath", debut coming out of nowhere, but it was not anticipated by any other type of release. group information talk about death sludge / doom / death, what comes up in the platter is a reinterpretation of a series of stylistic clichés now known. Imagine the historical realities such as cyanide and Autopsy in "groove on", then the matrix riffoni old school grooves that lie in the doom muddier and reinforce the atmospheric environment solutions designed to provide density and compactness. Diseim Unfortunately, the levels are far from 'excellence of these bands. "Holy Wrath" despite having the bases to do well is limited to that, the pieces are quite standard and this way of composing such "elementary" while guaranteeing the absence of frills or loopholes "extravagant", the other is unhealthy melodies that evokes a deja vu in cadences almost constant. And it sounds purely analogue chosen to ensure the accuracy test is designed to highlight the peculiarities of the primordial phase of death, however, resulting in too little consistent support for the advanced rotting doom and so what remains on the album are a couple of pleasant songs as closing the triad formed by "Son Of The Winter", "Witch" and "Agony". Overall you could clearly do much more. For now they're doing with the usual six political future Diseim the basis of what have sown with this "Holy Wrath", and found the balance that allows them to make the rather the two stylistic influences that nourish the sound, can look beyond and see what will happen with us.

THE HORDE Signs With Abyss Records

Image

Illinois-based Vikings thrashers THE HORDE have officially signed with Abyss Records for the follow-up for the release to 2011's Thy Blackened Reign. Guitarist Tim Matthews comments,
"The HORDE are thrilled to have signed with ABYSS Records. This is a match made in Valhalla as they will suit up in their armor and go to war with us as we ride into the flames of battle!
We are currently working on our third album, which has the working title Destroyer... Slayer of Men. Some song titles are "Pray Hater", "10,000 Strong" and "Firevurm". Will be entering Mercenary Digital Studios in Zion, IL at some point this winter to record with Scott Creekmore."
THE HORDE is slated to appear at Spring Bash IV in April of 2013 in Milwaukee, WI alongside DECEASED, MORTA SKULD and other acts TBA. More US festival appearances for 2013 are in the works. The band's Abyss Records debut is scheduled for a fall 2013 release on CD and vinyl formats. For more on THE HORDE, visit http://www.facebook.com/hordemetal.
Earlier this year, the band released a video for the song "Odin's Blood" off ofThy Blackened Reign. Check out the video at this location: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujvQeJjNCj0

Praise for THE HORDE:

"Next time someone asks me how I like my metal I will reply, 'I like it THE HORDE style." -Deaf Sparrow

"I gazed upon these warriors of steel for the first time at Central Illinois Metalfest 2010 and right away, I knew I'd found a band after my own heart." -Dr. Abner Mality, Wormwood Chronicles

"Moreover, the foursome have a real grasp on old school power metal values, spicing them up with the odd tincture of thrash and doom." -Malcom Dome, Metal Hammer Magazine

"Bands like this are why I do this site. From the first note, it's obvious they're in it for the rightreasons." -Cosmo Lee, Invisible Oranges

About THE HORDE:
Unleashed in 2008, From Empire to Ashes consisted of six epic, metal classics that took the listener on a journey into dark forbidden realms and all the way to the hallowed gates of Valhalla. Songs of bravery in battle, demonic warriors, clan warfare, and bewitchment that would inspire any true warrior on the fields of battle. As the band themselves proudly proclaim, "worship the glory of death!" This is real metal, played by real men of metal, for real fans of metal. That tradition continues on the band's fire-branded second release Thy Blackened Reign.
Members of THE HORDE have been playing together in one form or another for the
better part of two decades, having played in past regional bands from the area. With marked influence from their prior groups, THE HORDE brings the perfect mix of headbanging mosh pit chaos, epic Sword & Sorcerer monster battles, and just the slightest touch of stoner doomage.
THE HORDE has shared the stage with the likes of Exodus, 3 Inches of Blood, Job For a Cowboy, Black Dahlia Murder, Soilent Green, Skeletonwitch, The Red Chord and many others... THE HORDE draws influence from the likes of Venom, Celtic Frost, Metallica, Destruction, Kreator, Motorhead, Slayer, Cro-Mags, and Iron Maiden. In September 2011, the band released Thy Blackened Reign via Stormspell Records to critical acclaim. In the summer of 2012, THE HORDE took the next step towards world domination by joining forces with Abyss Records. Prepare for the HORDE to take a seat amongst the skulled thrones of previous metal masters and stand proud alongside their brothers in arms...

SEPTEKH (Sweden) "The Seth Avalanche" CD EP review by aristocraziawebzine

Image

By Mourning

When you put on a disk and without notice essertene you are already listening to the sixth or seventh in a row, you have found something that entertains you and you enjoy the evening. This today is a victory, if we happen to a band until then unknown to you it would be a great thing. Septekh In fact, I did not know who they were, these Swedes I had never heard of and when I entered "The Seth Avalanche" on the stereo did not imagine what could wait for me. Being hit by almost twenty minutes of music that can likewise be compared to a mixture of alcohol Carcass more death'n'roll, Gehennah (drunkards), some forms the black / thrash primordial made in Sweden and Motorhead. It was a moment of complete and acceptable outburst, it is natural to let go with songs such as black with a strong ironic "Fuckslut From Hell" and "Shoot Them All" or get involved by less rhythmic Fast paced and heavy, but more concentrated and a title track that enhances the appearance and composition along with some sclerotic "Blunt Force To The Head" exudes a great sense of majesty groove. very good performance instrument which stands the test " adrenaline rush, "the drummer Staffan Person that when you accelerate a sfracello and one behind the microphone Nils Meseke who performs using a growl / scream acid perfect to push further beyond the bar of" schizophrenia "inside the platter. Add a production that much more discreet and do not kill the sound of the bass and you're done. "The Seth Avalanche" is extreme, bone-crushing and alcohol, the alcohol and this recipe is simple but effective Septekh conquer the space between your audience, give them the opportunity to do so.

DIABOLICAL REVEALS ALBUM TITLE AND TRACK LISTING

Image

DIABOLICAL have started the recording sessions for their fifth album – entitled “NEOGENESIS”.

Guitarist Carl Stjärnlöv explains the album title: “Apart from being a physiological term, the title ‘Neogenesis’ translates to ‘new beginning’. The word originates from greek and latin and it marks a new beginning for DIABOLICAL in many ways. Furthermore the title has a much more profound significance to the theme and concept of this album.”

The band entered Necromorbus Studio in June and have already recorded the basics for the whole album. The full “NEOGENESIS” track listing:

1. Into Oblivion
2. Metamorphosis
3. Oracle
4. Ex
5. World in Silence
6. Reincarnation of the Damned
7. Fields of Nihil
8. Dialogue with the Dead
9. Wolves' Choir
10. The Age to Come
11. Humanitas

“The drum tracks laid down are amazing, and we are all very excited about continuing to work on ‘NEOGENESIS’. There are definitely some new flavors to our sound, and most importantly, the song material of ‘NEOGENESIS’ is by far the greatest we've done.” Carl concludes.

The band continues recording now at the infamous Necromorbus Studio facilities, with vocalist and guitarist Sverker Widgren producing once again.

The band is continuously reporting from the album production via their studio diary on youtube, second report being posted yesterday at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVUmqg1dS3U

ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) "Against All Odds" CD review by http://www.wintertorment.com

Image

By patrick

ireland has always had a great metal scene whether it was black, doom, death. and eternal helcaraxe are no different.eternal helcaraxe fall into the epic, pagan black metal metal genre.Against all odds is eternal helcaraxe's debut and is very impressive for a debut.fast, intense music with some well done keyboards that are nicely mixed into chaotic, violent black metal for a nice blend of traditional, fast black metal and parts of epic, pagan blackness.guitars are blazing fast with some good riffs, drumming is fast blast beats with some mid-paced beats.the vocals are blackend metal screams but their are some really well-done and sung melodic clean vocals.it will be nice if the band uses more of the clean vocal patterns on the next eternal helcaraxe as they seem to fit the bands style very well.highly recomended to all fans of quality, pagan black metal

Abyss Records To Unleash Rocking Corpses Debut Rock N' Rott On Friday, July 13th

Image

This Friday the 13th, your ass is getting lucky! Abyss Records is set to unleash the final selection from the Summer of Sickness Campaign 2012 with Rock N' Roll, the debut from Finland's horror-worshiping heavy rock duo Rocking Corpses. Blending bluesy rock, aggressive death metal and zombie fanfare, Rocking Corpses are as entertaining as they are terrifying.

A fan-made video of the track "925" has been posted at this location: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsXHs36UMMk

Image

1. Intro - Into the Grave
2. Up from the Grave
3. Necropolis
4. For Better for Worse
5. Take a Whiskey
6. Life for a Life
7. 925
8. Rocking Corpses
9. In the Dead of Night
10. Necrophiliacs
11. Dead End

Horror death rock from the necropolis called Finland. Raise the Hell!

Rocking Corpses was conceived in the end of 2007 after Tony realized what kind of music he really wanted to do. Being a big fan of bluesy rock, death metal and horror, Rocking Corpses was going to be a mixture of all that he loved in music and movies. Some months later Laze got interested about the idea and joined forces with Tony. In 2009 two demo songs were recorded and in 2010 they decided to record a whole 10 piece story about the apocalypse as seen through the eyes of a zombie.

Rock 'n' Rott is not only the genre of Rocking Corpses, but also the title of the first album that depicts what happens in the mind of a zombie. The story is full of black humor and gore, but also many references to real life. The music is a mixture of many rock and metal elements with low growling verses and melodic and very catchy choruses. There is not so much distortion in the guitars and the beats have more rock than death metal influences, so the combination is very unique and appealing to many different tastes.
Tony D.K. - Vocals & Guitar
Leper Laze - Vocals & Bass

SEPTEKH (Sweden) "The Seth Avalanche" CD EP review by http://www.wintertorment.com

Image

By patrick

i didn't really know what to expect to from this swedish band of metal fanatics.the band plays a very a chaotic, frenzied style of death, thrash metal with some punk rock mixed in the insanity.the guitarist like to keep the listeners attention by from heavy,mid-paced riffs,to hyper speed whirlwind riffs.vocals are more in the black metal realm with raw screams their are some death metal growls used to keep the listeners attention {but as fast and chaotic as septkh play keeping the listeners attention should not be a problem} if you enjoy and appreciate chaotic, raw death/thrash with some punk and even rock influences then septekh is a band worth checking out and adding to your collection!

DESULTOR (Sweden) "Masters of Hate" CD review by http://www.fuglymaniacs.com

Image

By MMB

I was listening to the second song called “Another World” and I thought, “Nevermore with blastbeats.”Of course, that’s totally not true. Maybe “extreme metal with traditional/high vocals” would be more accurate. After all, Nevermore’s guitar work doesn’t really sound this thrashy and the drumming is not this fast, so and so forth.
Desultor, as a musical idea, probably sounds strange to some people:
Thrashy/speedy guitar work, with some definite death metal leanings (so, basically, heavy stuff); fast/blasting drum work, but with clean vocals.
Really, clean vocals? Can that work?
Well, it’s certainly different from the speed combined with some talentless jerk “vocalist”, just hollering and screaming.
So, on this album, with all the speed and thrashiness and death metal speed, at no time is there some talentless hack cupping the microphone and eating it like a turkey sandwich and just burping into the mic and claiming he is doing “vocals”??
No!! There is not!!
There is no one barking like a dog on this album, and no one growling about zombies and horror movies.
Oh, yup, I almost forgot to mention the songs.
Yes, Desultor keeps it fast, blasting, thrashy/deathy and it is easy remember it all because of the clean vocals.
“Nevermore” with blasting speed is not the best description, but if you are curious, that should at least sound like a proposition to look into.
Yes, I know, this doesn’t actually sound like Nevermore. That’s because this is not Nevermore.
This is Desultor. A different band. See how that works?

RADIATION SICKNESS (U.S.) Interview by hatredmeanswar3

Image

By OccultBlackMetal

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days/

There is a lot going on for taking 18 years off. Stuff is coming at us fast. We just released our first studio record in 20 years “Reflection of a Psychotic Past” Our heaviest stuff to date on Abyss Records , this also includes a digital re-mastered copy of our 1990 LP “The other me a Journey into Insanity. We are playing a lot of fun selective shows. Later this summer we will have the SERIOUS OLD stuff released on CD with a live set DVD from 1990. It will include “We are all the Victims” Demo (1987) , “Elvis Ain’t Dead” 1988 and “The Bounds of Reality” EP. Plus a live set from Flint Michigan on CD and DVD. This release is called “The Madness Begins 87-90.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous recordings?

Heavier, faster more speed changes. All the songs that appear on Reflections but one “I Stand for nothing” were written in 1992. The music is true to the roots of old school brutality. The lyrics where all re-written. We have all grown as musicians so the music is better but we will always Keep it true and real.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Life is what Radiation Sickness songs are about the true evil in this world. I look at what is screwed up in the human mind and different mental health issues ( either that I suffer from, or have seen) and use them as a format to our lyrics. “Death did we part (A Demented Love song II)” is a true story of friend of the band. She was killed in front of her daughter in a murder suicide (The sound of a gun is real love means). “Tripping in the seas of madness” is about me (now 43) accepting my mortality but wanting to seek revenge of those who need it before I croak. Fucked up true life stories of the dark side of the human mind. Death and depression has plagued this band from the start including the suicide of the guy who started the band with me at the age of 17 many of years ago.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

Well it is not from a Repulsion song who we love dearly and spent many a times sharing the stage with. Nor is it from a Nuclear Assault song. It simply came from watching a show on PBS (that’s why back) on Radiation Poising from the Nuclear bombs dropped in World War II.

5. The band was broken up for a long time, what made you decide to reform the band and what where you doing during the long hiatus?

My (Doug Palmer‘s ) depression made us re-form. I was out of the music scene all together for 16 plus years. Looking in from the outside. Trapped in a world I hated with people I hated. It became to much, I found my way home to this little underground world we call home. Started hanging with old pals. Never did want to do a Radiation Sickness gig again. Well it took place in October 2010. All the guys came back but Ricky. Tom Ball stepped in on guitar (great move for the future of this band). We did one show only, but it was in our blood and fast-forward to me typing this up.

6. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Well the Indy show ever one still talks about was 1990 with Impetigo and Repulsion a pure classic. The first ever death fest A Day of Death in Buffalo New York in 1990. That will go down in metal history. Playing with Jim Fleet and Phlegm. Every show we play now! We do not play much but when we do it is with bands on a bill I would travel to see. On stage is just keeping real, energy and music, hate and anger! Still have the anger of the cross over punk days, the Fuck You attitude.

7. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

Yes we do, not long tours just a few one off’s three and four dates. It is hard for us to tour a long period of time with job’s and families. Hoping to spend three weeks or so in Europe in 2013. I look at it this way, if it is fun we will do it.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by undergrouns music fans?

It is has been great, I still run into people when I am out of town to see other shows that say hay I saw you back with so and so in (insert year). The feed back we are getting is over whelming and makes me proud to be part of this dysfunction group of heathens. If not for the dark demented and deranged heathens of the underground we are four guys playing in a garage. Thanks to all.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases/

True , fast , heavy. Nough say Keeping it real.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Well paying dues bands like: Deviated Instinct, Electro Hippies, Napalm Death in the Lee era, Cryptic Slaughter, Discharge, Impulse Manslaughter, the list goes on. Today I am heavy into Black Metal, Old Thrash, Crust Punk, Doom. I just love underground music.

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Indycar Racing, serial killers, insanity, my kids (top of the list). Tom is into Bike racing. Byron is down with all things horror. Kevin is into talking and guns.

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Just stay true don't be a lame poser. Keep it real. Support other bands. I am a 43 year old grown ass man doing this since 87, and go see all the new bands in Indy standing right up at the front. Lose the ego's and don't down load music. People do this out of love once they lose their ass they are done.

HUMANGLED (Italy) "Odd Ethics" CD EP review by http://www.hardsounds.it

Image

By David Montoro

After two years after its debut 'Fractal', the Tuscans refer back to live with an EP to mark their sound with strong violence schizophrenic and granite, but always respecting the theme characterized by almost dissonant riffs, unexpected tempo changes fast and furious. The only ones left from the original lineup are always Luke and Andrew, but this has still been useful to the new formation that has been tested extensively with a good live activity. The EP takes about fifteen minutes, divided into four tracks: on "Needles Of The Blind" , there is also the video was taken. The ghost of Carcass dell'opener not feel alone in the intro, but also atypical in that the two guitar riffs are shedding here and there in the songs (eg the first few seconds of "Skinned, To Feel All" ). There is nothing to do, as in 'Fractal' in this paper the Humangled prefer stunning riffs with ever more unusual, and the closing track is a bit 'poster for this their "intention".

ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) "Against All Odds" CD review by metalreview

Image

By Dave Pirtle

There’s nothing like mining the deepest parts of the "Lord of the Rings" universe to come up with a band name. You never know what one will come up with or even how apt the chosen moniker will be. We have a band out here that calls themselves Helm’s Deep, but as far as I can tell their music has little to do with hobbits and such. On the other hand, Ireland’s Eternal Helcaraxe went with a rather fitting choice. Helcaraxe – and I didn’t know this before – is the icy waste between the lands of Aman and Middle-Earth. Based on that, you’d probably guess that they play a frostbitten brand of heathen/black metal. You would be right, and Against All Odds is a pretty impressive tome of blood-splattered tales from that frozen land.

I only mention their homeland as a point of information, as to my ear there isn’t anything uniquely Irish here. However, they do seem to share more than a few musical/creative elements with countrymen Primordial, most notably when it comes to their more melodic moments (including clean vocals). Overall their sound owes more to the Scandinavian lands of ice and snow, specifically bands like Istapp, Thyrfing, and maybe early Darkthrone that create a definitive atmosphere from an almost bare-bones approach.

The most interesting aspect of Against All Odds is the ever-shifting mood. One moment you’re getting torn to shreds by the ferocious “We Assist Death”; the next you’re being entertained by the bard’s tale “Invictus”. (Well, a brutal bard, anyway.) Somewhere in between lies “As the Snow Gathers,” which for all its chillingness, is also quite warm thanks to some sweeping keyboard lines. Then, just when you think you’ve heard it all, they drop an emotionally-wrenching epic on you in the form of the album-closing title track. In an extreme genre like this, it is rare to not only hear but feel that kind of pain in the music. I’m still not 100% if it involves a man mourning his dying love or a mighty warrior paying heed to his fallen brothers. Okay, so I’m pretty sure it’s the latter, but that just shows the power of the lyric and vocal.

So what is Eternal Helcaraxe’s place amidst the ranks of like-minded bands? Probably somewhere in the middle, but closer to the front than the rear. They’re not doing a lot to inspire awe and wonder – yet, for a debut album from a relatively young band, Against All Odds holds its own, and leaves one with promise that there are even better days ahead, and even more epic tales to be told.

HUMANGLED (Italy) "Odd Ethics" CD EP review by fragality

Image

By fragality

After 2 years Italian deathers Humangled come back with more strength. The EP “Odd Ethics” (intro + 4 songs) comes through Abyss Records, without alterations on musical approach; the production of this CD was once again entrusted to the hands of Dan Swanö.

The sounds are more powerful than the previous album “Fractal”, perhaps for merit of introducing a second guitarist which enhances the sonic impact. After the intro, the opening “Needles of the Blind” is in classical death metal style with NWOBHM flavor, from groovy moments to full blast beats at the end. “Skinned, to Fell All” is probably the best song of this CD, groovy oriented riffs, death’n roll and brute force. “Smells Acrid” is much speedier and violent with a brutal and catchy refrain. The last song, “Deny Your Creed” expresses in a more clear way the atypical approach to death metal of Humangled. The tune lurches through different tempos with great success, from grindcore to thrash influences, fast chugging riffs and fierce vocals.

Odd Ethics is an excellent work that leaves me waiting for the next full-length.

FESTER (Norway) "A Celebration of Death" CD review by http://www.noise-web.com

Image

By Yath

A Celebration Of Death FINALLY thus marks the return of Fester on Abyss Records, after a failed attempt in 2000 (bassist Jorgen's death following an overdose Skjolden having destroyed the original plans of the group). To be clear, the space-time travel provided by this third album that comes 19 years after the second, is even more impressive than the guitarist "Tiger" was a brand new line-up to achieve this record. A Celebration Of Death takes us right back in the early 90s, when Black was still a degenerate form of Death Metal and the slogans were darkness and violence.

ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) "Against All Odds" CD review by http://www.metal-temple.com

Image

By Lior "Steinmetal" Stein

Marching forward against all odds, this battle will be won. Later on there will be a safe journey home back to cold north into the family warmth. There have been, throughout the ages, countless of stories and legends regarding few outsmarting the many, weak conquering the strong and more of the same. I don't know if this album's title, "Against All Odds", by this newcomer Irish Epic / Black Metal band of ETERNAL HELCARAXE, deals with the same dilemmas or descriptions of what I mentioned earlier, but I guess that it can be opened for different perspectives. With a music that partly felt as if it was a wind of war upon a vast field of battle or the galloping of a thousand horses, riding between old school Scandinavian bursts and Celtic influences, ETERNAL HELCARAXE, with this debut scored some points and opened my eyes once again regarding the magical elements laying still within Black Metal music and how its Folk counterpart can mature and flourish it.

Unlike the harsher forms of older Black Metal warriors such as IMMORTAL or DARKTHRONE and others that paved the road for rawness, ETERNAL HELCARAXE proved that they can implement these fiendish elements for enhancing their own creations, particularly in the sound production. While excluding the fast blast beats and grinding that have been a major part of the Black Metal imagery for years, Folk elements were inserted to upgrade your normal Paganism experience into a sort of concept which was inlayed in each track. Acoustic guitars and keyboards were used as storytelling aspects while the narrator, or more accurate the singer, and his peers, told the lost tales of glory with conviction, whether with raspy, grown and dreamy clean tones. In overall, the vocal section turned out to be different than the customary Black Metal usual front end. Furthermore, aside from the fast and mid pace riffing, the band chopped with nice melodies and crunchy octave oriented passages, which sometimes developed into a whole new atmospheric existence that allowed the spirituality of the stories to sink beneath the skin. I would have preferred supplementary lead guitar capers but more or less the lead work, which played out with a few cool licks, was satisfactory.

"One Stands Still Here" came up as the strongest contender on this one. It swept from mid tempo to fast paced carnage of blackness and mysticism. There were several sections where the atmospheric kicked in really well. "As The Snow Gathers" led me to believe that I was listening to a Norwegian old school band but the music sounded a bit more progressed than the old raw form. The ending chapter of this album was the album's title, "Against All Odds", which elevated a dramatic story of what I gathered as a warrior that won't be returning home again. Generally, this album serves as a profound beginning for this here band. I like its direction and it will work well for these guys if they will choose to perfect their music even further.

FETUS STENCH (Sweden) Interview and "Stillbirth" CD review by thegrimtower

Image

By Eric May

THE INTERVIEW:

If you could, describe the process in making this album. What was the toughest part of that process?
What albums/bands are the most influential to your sound?

It was a fucking hellride. Everything that could go wrong - went wrong. We had to put our own cash into the recording so we had to make the product sound as good as possible for as little money as possible. Seeing as we have to stimulate our crack/alcohol addictions as well (two not-so cheap addictions) this was absolutely crucial. The toughest part was arranging everything by ourselves and to get everything done. There were a lot of disagreements and catfights but we overcame them as well. Looking back at the whole process and then listening to what finally came to be, all the blood, sweat and patience we sacrificed to complete the record was nothing but worth it. We are truly proud of what we've cooked up. No specific bands or albums as influences, as long as it's fast and aggressive, it's all good and inspiring

How do you feel about the state of death metal in 2012?

Really good/really bad. I haven't found any good NEW band in years (well, Tribulation kicks ass but I wouldn't really consider them as a new band), it seems like all the new ones do now adays is to repeat what Autopsy did like 20-25 years ago and that is fucking boring. It must be really liberating to play such death metal tho as it doesn't require any instrumental skills. And the people who are talented at what they do end up playing sweep picking and difficult guitar licks instead of creating heavy riffs and that's even more boring. But the older bands like say Vomitory, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Unleashed etc. still deliver as usual. Thank fuck for that.

Do you think that bands are using too many core and technical elements in death metal these days? Or do you think that these elements help to give the music more structure, then say, back in the days of Entombed?

A band must always progress in some way and not remain the same. It is vital for a band to find an own sound and develop it as well. But when you begin to include technical parts for the sake of being technical instead of writing MUSIC, that's where you fuck up. I do not know where the "Death" in "Deathcore" comes from, but it's not from DEATH METAL anyways. That trend is over soon though, and the ones who took part of that "scene" will only remember it as an embarassing period in their lives. Untrue bastards.

Be honest. What did you guys think of Morbid Angel's last album, "Illud Divinum Insanus"?

To be honest, it's half-gold, half-shit. The "metal" songs on the album are really good, songs like "10 More Dead", "Nevermore" and "Blades For Baal" is exactly what one would expect Morbid Angel to sound like today. I can't understand why they had to fuck things up with techno-bullshit and rave, I think they did it just for the hell of it and to try to break new ground once again, it backfired horribly. But hey, I'm not the one to judge. Who knows how I'll handle MY midlife crisis.

With the advent of the Guitar Hero generation and Brendan Small's Metalocalypse, more young people are getting into metal these days. This is a good thing for the genre, but the kind of metal they are making is not the kind of music that anyone of us would be caught dead listening to. (Paint The Skyline for example.) What do you think of this "new" metal, and is it just a sign of the times?

It's a sign of times but it's certainly NOT metal. Those kids should grab a beer, get pissdrunk and listen to "Dismember - Like An Everflowing Stream" on Vinyl instead of playing video games.

With all this talk of apocalypse, what's the first thing that you would do "after the shit went down?

Rise as a satanic zombie and eat a banana.
Andreas Björnson, Fetus Stench

THE REVIEW

Image

If you don't know who Fetus Stench is yet, as soon as you've given this thing a spin, I guarantee that you'll be familiar with them. It's been a long time since I've heard a band with as much groove, brutality and viciousness as what these gentlemen have to offer. The disc is nothing sort of beastly, with each and every song being not only bloodthirsty, but also different. The band isn't afraid to move beyond the basics of bland death metal, and to elevate their style to include tracks that don't all sound the same. This is the major difference between death metal and most deathcore.

Fans of Swedish death metal will eat this one whole, as it contains so much of the same style of riffing that we'd expect from bands like Bloodbath in their earlier era, or Hypocrisy, among countless others like Demonical, exc. Yes, resemblances can be drawn to many different bands, but these guys definitely make good use of what they have.

The drummer is an absolute fucking demon behind the kit. He damn near demolishes the kit through all nine of these tracks. If you can't tell that from the first couple of minutes on this disc, then perhaps you need to go slit your wrists and pray to Justin Bieber. But as for me, I'm going to worship at the same bloody altar of death that I've worshiped at before; and this band is just another great offering on that altar. Again, I cannot stress how much of a great drummer this guy is. In a genre where drumming is so important to the music, this drummer fucking shines with a black unholy light that you've got to witness for yourself. I've heard a plethora of drummers in my reviewing stint, and this guy definitely fucking sits close to the throne.

The vocals are the kind of bloodcurdling grunts/hollers that you would expect from Swedish death metal. But they're done exceptionally well and in the most brutal and demonic fashion. Everything goes right in line with the music, and there's no sign of amateurism. The guy's got some great fucking pipes and they're definitely going to remind me you of several other death metal front men. But that's not a fucking bad thing, because those front men that he'll remind you of are good death metal front men; like Peter from Hypocrisy, for example.

The guitar solos on this thing are pretty frantic, as with much of the music on here, but I'd expect nothing less from death metal. As I've stated, these guys really remind me a shit load of Hypocrisy and Bloodbath, two Swedish bands that I've played the living fuck out of, and if you like that shit, then you're going to like this shit too. Songs like "Meat Grinder Flesh Obliteration 4:29" and "Descending Into The Realm Of the Dead 5:32" as well as the eerie closer, "By Butchery Divorced 4:57" will further imprint into your skull that Fetus Stench is a formidable death metal band that certainly has a fucking place among the greats like Entombed, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Hypocrisy, Deicide, The Monolith Deathcult, Morbid Angel, Decapitated and several other acts.

If you also liked Revel In Flesh, another band that I interviewed a few weeks ago, you should definitely check these guys out as well. Honestly, this review doesn't do the album justice - but these nine songs speak for themselves. I honestly have no fucking idea how you couldn't like these guys if you like Swedish death metal. They do it well, and they fucking do it right. There's no bullshit to be found here, just brutality, thundering drums and the sound of devastation for damn near 40 minutes.

Highly recommended listening. These guys will rape your miserable carcass and inject the foul seed of true fucking death metal into it. Only if you don't like death metal, will you not like this bestial offering. But if you don't like death metal, then why the fuck are you reading this review?

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to jam this fucker a couple hundred more times.

FESTER (Norway) "A Celebration of Death" CD review by http://www.metal-temple.com

Image

By Melissa Collins

Originally known as HEROIC CONDUCT, FESTER is no newbie to Metal. This Norwegian four piece have been in the game since 1989. Fans of FESTER are excited about their long awaited release titled "A Celebration of Death". This is their first full length CD since 1994. "A Celebration of Death" was released in March of 2012 and although it's the first I've heard from FESTER, I think it was a success and helped them to stand apart from any other band out there.
FESTER has an interesting blackened Death Metal sound. They have a very dirty style of Death Metal that is obviously influenced by Doom Metal. This unique combination features gloomy riffs with a doom-like ambience. Please be warned, however, that instead of focusing on speed and raw aggression as you may suspect, the sound is quite atmospheric. They also have an industrial feel that can be easily noticed in songs such as "I'll Hunt You Down" and "Jeg Spytter Pa Deg". The music is very peculiar, mainly because of the harsh, growly vocals that Thomas Andresen produces. The lyrics are Black Metal inspired, as they are mainly about winter, occultism and of course, anti-Christian views. The music is curious, to say the least.
Overall, I think "A Celebration of Death" is a great success and something that FESTER should be proud of. It's a great CD highlighting impressive musicianship, but about four or five songs in, it becomes very repetitive. This is due to the same slow Doom tempo that repeats itself throughout all ten tracks. Perhaps a slight tempo change could help. The songs also tend to drag on much longer than needed. For example, "March of Death" can have the listener tempted to switch songs only after three minutes in. Longtime fans will be thrilled with this after waiting so long for something new. As for new listeners such as myself, I think they should be impressed with what they hear, as Fester is unexpected and unlike any other band.

ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) "Against All Odds" CD review by thegrimtower

Image

By Eric May

I've been singing the praises of this band ever since I heard this fucking album while at work. The band is Irish, and I usually like Irish bands; especially Irish doom. Some dipshit online wants to say that doom metal is better in Finland, but I don't think so. While I love Finnish doom like Swallow The Sun and others; I find that doom in Ireland has more emotion and spirit.

The fans consider the band pagan black metal, and the band's info document considers them "Irish black/Epic metal" but I consider them to be melodic black metal with elements of funeral doom. However, you don't have to go out and buy this album right away. Being the nice gentlemen that they are, the band decided to give away their first EP, "To Whatever End (2009)" as a free download from bandcamp. It's available in every kind of format you could ever want, so check it out.

The album is composed of the same kinds of dark, triumphant melodies that you would expect for a band of this genre. Songs like "Invictus 7:06" really showcase that point, being something of a single for this album. The song contains infectious melodies and exceptionally powerful vocal emotion. It's the kind of thing to play during an epic battle and is one of the best songs about an invincible army that I've ever heard. The fact that this album contains that fucking song, is just one of the many reasons to buy this disc. (That and I found it on abyss records for only 9.98 + S/H.)

The disc also contains besides infectious melodies like those on Invictus, pummeling drums, fierce screams and wonderful clean vocals done by the vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Praetorian, (who also plays in Eadochas) and the second guitarist Mualgrim, as well as the Bass player, Thule. (Everyone but the drummer does some vocal work.)

This band also implements massive amounts of structure, and live up to the subgenre classification, "epic metal." This band is in no way afraid to stop their black metal bashing for just a few minutes and throw in some nice, yet sorrowful melodies. Cernunnos himself would be pleased at the beauty of some of these melodies, as they really take control of the songs and focus all of your attention directly to them. What you might have first heard as a brutal call to death quickly becomes a slow paced section with a clean melody that sounds like it was inspired from an ancient folk song that dealt with the sorrow of battle.

The mix of sorrow, black metal brutality, and clean melody all help to make this disc what it is. It assures that you are listening to Eternal Helcaraxe, and not some other band. This sound has definite inspiration from many bands, there's no disputing that; but when you hear the clean/scowl vocal duet on "As The Snow Gathers 7:32" you're going to definitely mark these guys up on your list of bands that you need to give a shit about. Some of the melodies on this disc, combine with the vocals are so fucking beautiful that they might elicit tears, and I think that somebody somewhere is really going to feel this. There's heart in this music, truly; and I felt it in the deepest part of my soul.

I have no idea what else you want me to say about this one. But fans of Irish black/doom like Primordial might really, really, really, want to check these guys out. Hell, melodic black metal fans and fans of funeral doom should also give this one a spin. To tell you that the drumming is good, the riffs are good and the vocals great would be a bit redundant I think; because these should all be assumed at the forefront. There is not even one hint of sup-par musicianship on this disc; and I can only hope that they'll keep going up from here.

But to tell you the fucking truth, I have no idea how they will be able to improve on this one. Goddamn, this is great black metal. It's definitely without a fucking shadow of a doubt; going to be on my list for 2012's best black metal. If the Mayans are right, I can certainly die happy now that I've heard this.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) "Composition of Flesh" CD review by battlehelm

Image

By Anders Ekdahl

I can’t get enough of Swedish death metal. Especially not now when we see more and more bands (not only Swedish) returning to the sound of the late 80s/early 90s. And it is not only for nostalgic reasons that I like this sound. There is something to the simplicity of it that appeals to me. I’m not one for nostalgia but listening to this I regret that I traded all my old demos for CDs back in ancient time. It would have been cool to be able to take out any old demo with Nihilist, Dismember or Entombed and play them back to back to this album and just see if you could spot the age difference. There is a youthful exuberance to, as if they’ve just discovered the wheel for the first time. Death metal for all those of you who like it old and rotten.

Interview by Dale Roy & Patrick Schroeder with Daniel Ferguson, owner of Abyss Records late June 2012…

We are happy to have this interview with a man that has been battling it out in the UG scene for decades, which all by itself shows the mans dedication and passion for the scene and the bands he supports. I first contacted Dan back around '93/94 sometime. He has come a long way since then and leaves a demo, a fanzine, a physical record shop and now a full fledged record label in its wake. Read on...

Hello Daniel, thank you for taking the time to fill out this interview with us. Please introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m Daniel Ferguson, owner of Abyss Records and been involved in the underground since 1990. Also use to do underground Fanzine “A View Into The Abyss” Zine (6 issues total).

When did you first discover metal? Who were some of the first bands you listened to? Who are some of your "current" favorites?

W.A.S.P. Animal (Fuck Like a Beast) changed my life and got me into metal as we know it today. Some my personal favorites are bands on my label as well the classics like Entombed, Autopsy, Darkthrone, Carnage, Destroyer 666, Iron Maiden, Helloween, D.R.I., Kreator, Carcass, old Morbid Angel, Bolt Thrower, Eucharist, In Flames, and so many more……

Going way back I remember ordering (I think from you or possibly a then fledgling Moribund Disto) a Darkness Enshroud 1993 cassette you performed on (under the name Rahu). Can you tell us a bit about that time with this band, that recording session and what you did on the demo tape?

I use to work together with Michael Ford of Black Funeral / Darkness Enshroud together, so he had asked me to do some backing vocals and I did. Plus helped with the lay out of the Demo cassette, ect….. Kind of how some things started to lead where I’m at today in business.

When I ordered the Darkness Enshroud tape. I also ordered a killer fanzine called A View Into The Abyss. This was your fanzine, please tell us what inspired you to start a fanzine in the first place? What memories do you have of making the first couple issues and how many issues total were made?

Just being involved with the scene and being in contact with a lot of bands back in the day. Like I said 6 issues was made and some my best memories was writing Varg/Burzum and Euronymous/Mayhem all before he was murdered and getting the letter one day from Hellhammer about the incident before the main stream media was all talking about it. So being a part of the Black Metal movement.

Did you enjoy doing the zine and why did you end up stopping it? Has it ever crossed your mind to revive the zine? What do you think about webzines replacing printed fanzines for the most part?

It was fun but a lot of hard work and back in the cut and paste method days…. Hahaha I would say we sold at least 200 or so first issues and by the 6th issue it was selling around 300-500 copies or more. Been too long I don’t remember plus printed up like 30-50 at a time….

I believe you also did a compilation tape in the early days, tell us about that and was that the start of Abyss Records? When did you decide to turn Abyss zine/distro into a full-blown label? Are you happy with how things are progressing so far?

I did a compilation cassette called “Extreme Hardcore Holocaust” back in 1990 and features some great bands like Nocturnus, Skeletal Earth, Dead Horse, Radiation Sickness, and others I was into back in the underground then. Around 1997 I done one CD release Crimson Moon “To Embrace The Vampyric Blood” CD under Abyss Productions, but done 2000 copies in two pressing and SOLD OUT (yeah I remember that and wondered if Abyss Records was still going all those years… - Dale).

After leaving selling on Ebay (due to limitations and their dumb as policies) I started the label in late August 2008 and since then have not looked back. I’m happy with the progress but would be even better to see more CD sales pick back up and the support get better again.

You have or had a physical Record store in Indianapolis correct? How long has the store been open? How much has traffic in the store decreased in recent years with the proliferation of online cd ordering and of course ordering mp3 albums online?

I had a store front for about 5 years, closed down and tried another on other side of town for about a year, then was sick and tired of the scene so I closed and went to work from home. We had loyal customers and more that would travel out of town than there was in town, sad but true.
Please tell the readers a little about your releases? Are their any upcoming releases to watch out for? Abyss recently took over John McEntee’s Ibex Moon online mailorder activities, how did that come about?

They range from all Extreme genres of Metal Music, some have some members of other bigger known bands and some are local bands I feel deserve global support. I just sign bands that blow me away when I hear them and grow on me when listen to the albums.

John called me and we have known each other for a long long time… I have been trying to help him since he is on the road with bands, it’s harder for him to keep up the mailorder. So we worked it out, but still hard to keep up at times and communication all the time.

Do you work/run Abyss on your own or do you have some friends that help you out? What would you say is the easiest part and the hardest part about doing a label? What do you look for when signing/releasing a band?

I run mostly everything myself, but have Clawhammer PR help me with promotion and couple friends Mike McCoy (who helps with online work & flyers) and Dan Jones (who helps little around here with stock, inventory and flyers, ect).

The easiest part is now bands come to me and I pick and choose mainly, the hardest is dealing with economy that goes up and down from day to day.

What are your thoughts on Metal fans stopping collecting CDs, vinyls etc… in favour of mp3s and actually do not seem want to be encumbered with a physical CD? What does the term "underground metal" mean to you?

People who just download and think they are collectors are a fucking “JOKE”, that is about as poser as one could get in my eyes. Continue doing the damages and soon there will be no bands, no labels, and already see the effects of stores disappearing. So the same thing with video games, movies and take the cheap way out doesn’t show me any form of REAL support!!!! Anyone can download every album online and say they have a huge collection, so what is the point???? MP3 sound like shit too if people really knows anything about sound quality and or cared, but guess that is more the newer generation thing than mine. Most people today live a disposable lifestyle so collecting is not important to them I think is the main case.

What kills me people willing to pay $60 for a video game that comes out & plays almost the same as the last 5-6 versions of the same game, each and every year, but complain about paying $11.99 for CD ???? People will spend $100-$200 on a pair of shoes as well, today more people are worried about what others think & social status all the time.

I still go online and pay regular price as well in stores, when I know I can go get for wholesale just as easy.... Sometimes it's NOT always about saving a $1 or $2 but supporting those who keep things going and alive.

Are Abyss releases available for people to buy as an mp3 album? Do you think this format is hurting the scene and caused people to stop buying albums?

People can buy our releases on Amazon, Itunes, and all major download sites, but can also buy actual CD for $10 and EP for $7 which is not much more and have a physical copy for as long as you take care of it. The BEST is when I hear people in bands talking about all they do is download and then turn around and complain they didn't sell anything at a show.... WTF seriously!!!!! I can't be the only one who takes notice of things like that too..... Idiots!!!

I think you have a family, so with you running the label, doing the online distribution and organizing shows etc… Do you have any problems balancing time and responsibilities with the family and the label together? Tell us a bit about the live shows you have organized?

Yeah, work takes a lot of my time and I try my best to balance it between some quality time with my wife and son, although I don’t get as much time as I would like. Plus it takes away from my personal free time as well, it’s hard to leave town for a day or two and especially a vacation.

I use to book shows more when I had a store next to small venue called Emerson Theater, which now it’s under poor management and does nothing but rip off young local bands. However gives them a place to be heard I guess. Since those days I have not done much with shows, except help here and there and promote the ones Abyss Records artist are involved with the best I can.

You have been a part of the metal UG in one way or another for 20 yrs. What is it that has kept you motivated and going all these years? When the day does finally come and you decide to put Abyss to rest for good. How would you like the metal fans to remember you and Abyss?

Well honestly it’s NOT in my blood to give up and quit, rough times make me push back even harder. Kind of like bands who really want it and others who give up before really trying, but that goes with everything in life. Sure you can get by day by day and live the same life for years, but I like to create new ideas and evolve as we should in time.

I just want people to be able to look back at Abyss Records when I’m gone and say damn, that was a great label with amazing bands involved. Become a Kult label of the Metal Underground to be remembered forever, not just another one in the numbers of countless labels with nameless bands involved.

Thank you Dan for taking out the time to do this interview. Please give us some final words and how people can contact you? We wish you the best of luck with your label and activities metal brother. Cheers.

Thank you for the support and everything, as well all our fans who do care and help support Abyss Records as well other labels efforts. Once the labels are gone then even the FREE downloads will disappear too as bands, labels and stores continue to die out.

ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) "Against All Odds" CD review by http://www.teethofthedivine.com

Image

By E. Thomas

I had no idea what to expect from the debut from Ireland’s Eternal Helcaraxe. The cover and logo hinted at something Viking or Pagan, the moniker just reminded me of US death metal act Helcaraxe, and the album title was just ‘meh’. And they were from Ireland- with a few exceptions (namely Cruachan, Waylander, Primordial and Altar of Plagues), hardly an elite metal hotspot. However, after a gorgeous acoustic introductory number in “Claim Your Place With the Gods” the album opens proper with an epic gallop of “One Still Stands Here” and I can only think of one band- Primordial.
But that’s not a cart blanche catch all, just a starting point as Eternal Helcaraxe has released a stunning album that takes all of the great things about Primordial (long songs, epic, craggy riffs, melancholic acoustic moments, gaunt sense of national pride) and gives it a a touch of their own character by way of delicate symphonics, more of a 90s black metal back bone and a somber sense of rangy melody and atmosphere that make Against All Odds one of the most alluring and engaging black metal releases of 2012.
After the enthralling real opening track, “Invictus” rumbles with a somber but staunch Celtic march and subsequent canter. The vocals of Thule are a decipherable, witchy rasp though hes often aided by his band mates with a plethora of other growls, understated clean croons and screams. And about 4;10 into the track it takes a gorgeous, melodic tangent with some sumptuous synths complementing the majestic gallop. It’s an absolutely riveting few minutes to end the song. ” We Assist Death” is initially the album’s most direct, virile black metal track relying in militant frosty riffs rather than atmosphere or synths, but the song’s last third is a more doomy, rangy and somber shade.
“Shadow of the Wolf” is the albums shortest, catchiest track with a rousing canter and classically arranged chorus that recalls the likes of mid era Immortal and other 90s black metal. “As the Snow Gathers” takes a little bit to get going and is the albums respectable down turn, but pick with a hypnotic mid song clean vocal segue and glorious symphonic close out. However, the closing duo of “Echoes Through Our Blood” and eleven minute title track more than make the album worthwhile alone. The prior a 6 minute stern war anthem of steady war metal riffage and explosive Celtic tinged black metal before the absolutely sprawling title track shows how good and varied Eternal Helcaraxe is. It contains everything- delicate orchestral intro, tremolo picked melodies, rousing marches, harmonic solo, atmospheric acoustic bridge and subsequent Primordial like explosion of steady, moody, epic riffage.
The production is clean but nor overly so, having a nice organic texture and hues that fits the epic visage the band is going for. And with only being their debut full length, i look forward greatly to future releases from this new jewel of the Emerald isle.

CORROSIVE CARCASS (Sweden) Interview by hatredmeanswar4

Image

By OccultBlackMetal

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Back in 2004 Markus Janis, Mikael Lindorf and Peter Koistinaho that knew each other in school decided to start a band and explore metal music. Corrosive Carcass was formed in 2007 when vocalist Jonathan Sjöblom joined the band and they decided to play death metal seriously. Two years later guitarist Christian Kanto joined the band and then the band was formed as it is today. We recordedour first official demo ’’Rot.In.Pieces’’ in 2010.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

Raw old school death metal

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects that band explores with the music?

Torture, deah, war, religion and the end of the world

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

It describes our kind of music pretty well dont you think? There is no meaning it just sounds cool.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

The best show so far must be at Getaway Rock Festival 2012 that is a big metal festival in sweden, our performance on stage is a lot of headbanging and no bullshit talk between songs just strait on.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

We have plans on touring in Sweden, and if possible europe after that.

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?

We got many good reviews around the world and many fans wrighting to us. Especially from north/south america and poland.

8. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?

Mikael and Christian have side projects but not as important as this band.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

We want to stay true to this style but of course we want to evolve as musicians.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Our biggest influencese are Autopsy, Death, Dismember and Entombed to name a few. Also a lot of good Thrash, Black , Heavy and Doom metal bands.

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

All band members are big fans of retro video games and movies.

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

We want to thank Abyss Records for beliving in our music, fans and family for all your support!
If you are a big fan of old school death metal Corrosive Carcass - Composition of Flesh is a must in your collection!

FETUS STENCH (Sweden) "Stillbirth" CD review by metal.de

Image

By Patrick Olbrich

Typical Swedish death metal purist form actually looks in different, even if coming off of the old-school hip-wave, for example, with the likes of AS YOU DROWN always staggered Fackelzügler similar to daylight. FETUS STENCH as very fresh, only a year ago established, troops from Karlstad in southern Scandinavian Metal Nation allocates a reasonable doubt, unconditional and uncompromising in this snake. This, however, with almost frightening professional airs that go far beyond just been definitely tools to reasonably skillful Todeselch. A look at the line-up in this context to clarify something, because the musicians are not all of them are bloody amateurs and act mostly remains similar in other-oriented bands. The tone makes the music known to literally say - probably the most devastating sound to "Stillbirth" pops out of the hides, behind which is buried with Emil Wiksten, at least those in FETUS STENCH instrumentalist who currently operates in addition to the famous band. Moreover, let BLOOD RED THRONE, of which here is mentioned, sometimes even at the best compared with that music. In addition to the absolute crowbar of percussion, which occupies a hand through his mechanical refrigeration, on the other hand, due to its bloody unfeeling precision of a bitter part of the debut work of Sweden, it is the modern split between often thrashy sounding riff, the northern source is certainly not to be overheard, Death and violent attacks in the spirit of the above AS YOU DROWN.Although the individual pieces reveal a certain uniformity in their entirety and in the world of FETUS STENCH few surprises are pass, but the almost 40 minutes just flew by. The under warranty because it is constantly on the huge cap, but also because the hooks clean any excessive standardized nature belong and can definitely hear a noticeable feeling of freshness. It also does the straightness of the adaptive Growler Björte no harm and also makes the fetzenden high-speed tracks such as "Necrosis" a good death wholesome snacks. Anyone who has recently also likes conveniently resulted mainly from the 80s and 90s vault shell out and what will hammer Unters new nose, which was "Stillbirth" put your heart in good faith. Really!

SEPTEKH (Sweden) "The Seth Avalanche" CD EP review by metalreview

Image

By Jeremy Witt

Imagine a half-drunken jam session between Mille Petrozza, Fenriz and Tom G. Warrior, the lot of them caught between ripping through varying combinations of their distinctive thrash, black and proto-black heaviness and just rocking out on Motorhead-meets-Venom sloppy rock.

Don’t act like that doesn’t sound like fun.

And it kind of is, and though it regrettably actually involves exactly none of the players I name-checked, The Seth Avalanche certainly sounds like the scene I just described.

At heart, this six-song EP is a thrash effort, but it’s one that runs headlong and happily into black metal, and it’s one that sports a noticeable rock influence, particularly in the jaunty bounce and greasy-grimy guitar licks of “Eating The Maneater” and album opener “Fuckslut From Hell.” “Blunt Force To The Head” starts on a slow, simple chug before stepping into some blastbeats and a full-out thrashing ending, and “Not Quite What I Had In Mind” reverses that, starting out blasting and dropping into a swinging mid-section that is guaranteed to get toes a-tappin’, touching on a killer sliding riff and moving past without further ado. On each of these tunes, vocalist Nils Meseke shrieks and growls like a demented Petrozza, his performance dramatic, borderline unhinged, as engagingly silly as it is spitting and aggressive.

While The Seth Avalanche is an entertaining endeavor based on quality thrashing blackness alone, it achieves a next-level ridiculous uber-metal-ness (and metallic uber-ridiculousness) by way of its lyrics, which are equal parts comical and disturbing and oddly endearing in their over-the-top attempts to shock. “Fuckslut From Hell” speaks for itself, and the title track lives up to its blackness – it’s the most stereotypically black metal lyric on hand, a sociopolitical middle-finger-raised take on the forthcoming end of the world: “Where’s your God now / at the dawn of the age of Seth?” “Eating The Maneater” begins with a verse about a man stalking, killing and eating a Bengal tiger – this man is clearly crazier and / or hungrier than I have ever been – but then it takes the titular character in a direction all Hall & Oates, juxtaposing the tiger against a woman in a bar, here both predator and prey. Hearing Meseke screech “Back home I’ve got a freezer full of women just like you / I’m eating the maneater!” is one of the EP’s most head-banging / head-shaking moments, and the couplet of “Cause when you spread you become my favorite dish / who’s wrapped around whose finger now as I go to the land of fish” is equally poetic. Still, the highest and lowest praise must go to “Not Quite What I Had In Mind,” which details in no uncertain terms the protagonist’s taunting of his enemies, who then beat him to a pulp, break his legs and teeth, tie him to a chair and brutally sodomize him repeatedly, which (you guessed it) was not what he had in mind.

As noted elsewhere in other reviews, black / thrash is quite the rage these days, with some great recent efforts by Aura Noir, Mongrel’s Cross, and the like. Septekh isn’t as sharp or as raging as those, not quite in that league of giants, but The Seth Avalanche still exhibits a winning combination of the vicious and the ludicrous, and it’s certainly skilled enough to make for an enjoyable burst of rocking blackness.
