FUCT are a band from Nashville, Tennesee that has a history that dates back to the mid 80's and they play a style that mixes hardcore, thrash, sludge and death metal together and this is a review of their 2008 album "Reatain To The Aggro" which was released by Abyss Records.

Drums alternate between slow and fast drumming with some ocassional blast beats, while the bass playing follows the riffs that are coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars have alot of variety with some fast riffs that mix thrash and hardcore together while the slow riffs are sludgy and doomy mixed in with some death metal heaviness, while the lead guitars are classic rock sounding guitar solos.

Vocals mix alot of different styles together with some clean singing, thrash style vocals and some sludge style high pitched screams mixed in with some deep death metal growls, while the lyrics touch on Spirituality and Earth, as for the production it has a very thick and heavy sound that goes great with the music that is on this album.

In my opinion this is a good album from FUCT, i remember buying a cd from this band in the 90's and when I bought it, I never thought anyone even heard of this band, and their newer album is alot different than that one which was crossover thrash, and this album has sludge and death metal elements which the older one did not, if you are looking fro something origianl you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Devotian To The Dying World" "A Forebidding Tale Of Woe" "Kicker" and "October". RECOMMENDED BUY.

The Latvians Diseim begin the long-term, after a model premiere edited a couple of years, which showed the group the first ideas to mix death metal with sludge. In "Holy Wrath" the band goes a step further by opening the ends of the spectrum: there are parts faster with brutal death metal vocals and shouted and then grunhidas passages of pure sludge-tuned guitars and slow down as well. The transitions between the two sides of the track Diseim are not always perfectly achieved, but the mixture results reasonably well, especially since the quartet seems to have a genuine (or is it naive?) That does have a personality or something or have their own references more underground music further east or older than most of the groups that mixed sludge and death metal today. "Holy Wrath" may be too death metal standard for fans of sludge, but who likes death metal varied, well played and indeed a monkey, will have a pleasant surprise this album.

Formed in 2008, the Swedes Septekh lost no time in just edited a demo and an EP debut the following year. "The Seth Avalanche" is the new proposal, in EP format and half-dozen tracks of thrash / death metal with a clear DNA rock'n'roll. One of Motörhead songs more clearly the whole record is "Eating The Maneater" malhinha full of riffs that roll and a solo blues full of class and dusty desert. CORROSIVE CARCASS was founded by Markus Janis and Fredrik Lindorf sometime back in 2004 and soon after Peter Koistinaho and Fredrik's brother Mikael Lindorf joined the band. They started to rehearse in Fredrik's room in his parent's house for the sole purpose of playing heavy music. As they became better musicians and delved into the more extreme side of metal, their vision of the band became more death-oriented. In 2007, Jonathan Sjöblom joined the band as a vocalist. Soon after, Fredrik left the band due to creative differences. Markus quickly put his guitar down to fill the empty drum throne and guitarist Robin Dahlberg stepped in. Robin did not play in the band for long, before leaving for personal reasons. In the autumn of 2009, Christian Kanto joined the band to replace Robin. With this line-up CORROSIVE CARCASS injected new life into the older material and began to write new material that soon would become the band's first demo Rot.In.Pieces.

CORROSIVE CARCASS recently completed their debut full-length, Composition of Flesh, which is set for a Summer 2012 on Abyss Records.

Odd Ethics is the first sign of life of the Italians Humagled for two years and is - hopefully - only a prelude to a full length album. Apart from a debut Fractal there are currently no other long-player from the band. And the latest creation has come with a 15 minute short. Four songs are the Humangled handed fan, all in a 3-minute range. Fortunately, no need for a comprehensive intro, so that the 15 minutes and actually 15 minutes of playing time (apart from a few seconds "bubbling" in the beginning, but this is negligible). The real intro song then starts and is carried directly to conditions in the mid-tempo death metal. The Refrainriff pleases me very well, the rest is a bit colorless. Skinned, To Feel All is the strongest song on the album and makes consistently fun, especially the acoustic objections are good accompanying background intrinsically Lichen reef. Smells Acrid begins schrammelnd and frequently changes his pace. Not a bad song, but no enlightenment. The last song on the album I have because of the name Deny Your Creed want most, but it says to me at least. I am warm with the song even after repeated listening, which is a pity, because this is about the song with the best text. Latvia is for me an unknown quantity musically apart from a melodic death metal band called Trendkill Method. This album comes from a far darker place. The short and concise track titles – “Black”, “Witch”, “Sinner” “Agony” etc – convey what this is: no nonsense, deep and purposefully heavy death metal with high dosages of black and doom-laden content.
What I particularly liked about “Holy Wrath” is its honesty. The continuous flow of rumbling death metal is oppressive but it is developing and hypnotic. There’s plenty of technical content and a faint hint of a groove in parts. At times I am reminded of Grave, at others of Entombed or Mayhem. There’s most definitely a rancid old school feel about this.
Anger and torture peer through the opener “Black” but while the guitar twists in its intriguing and anarchic way, the drum beat towers above it all, creating in total a creepy effect. For seconds, “Holy Wrath” slows down, not quite to the point of doom but enough to generate a sense of agony. The pace picks up and then leaves us behind. Another round of dark meanderings and an intense but controlled ending follow. They’ve made their point. Black metal in its rancid forcefulness can be found. It’s straightforward really, but then the patter changes with “Sinner” which grinds on remorselessly with its doomy death progression. “”Insanity” starts in similar funereal vein before cranking up to a pumping beat. The growls maintain a thread between the black and doom metal. It’s pretty dirty stuff. By contrast again “Son of the Winter” is pure death metal. It is cold, dark, sunless and most of all it is threatening. As if dragged back by mud, “Witch” progresses sludgily, occasionally breaking out but always returning to the land of grey struggle. There’s plenty going on instrumentally and what thee is adds to the pitiful painting. The uncompromising harshness of “Agony” which ends the album seems entirely appropriate.
It’s been done before but there’s good musicianship and a wealth of ideas here. Diseim don’t mess about. You can’t ask for more than that. This is a solid album.

With their first album Swedish death metal band, Fetus Stench is not going to square the circle or to discover that the earth is turning. For the first, many have tried before but none has succeeded while for the second, has been discovered many years ago. So if you asking for Fetus Stench to create an original death sound will be a bit demanding ... do not you think so?
Really, if you believe that a band that includes in the name of the band the word "Fetus" can be original, then you fall asleep with the light open. No guys, Fetus Stench all they do is to reproduce the sounds of the past and even sounds that have become known since the 90's and through great and historical bands such as Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation with sidelong glances to occasional passages of Morbid Angel. Yeah, you understood well, you are talking here about an authentically brutal death metal sound as taught by their mother, nothing more and nothing less. But..
But ... the Fetus Stench has learned well the lesson, they know everything about it. Their music doesn't bring anything new on the table, but sounds so brutal, so... death ... If this is enough for you then "Stillbirth" is created to be your new companion.
There are good thrash riffs and even if the cannot leave you speechless made scream and throw tons of fireworks in the air over-enthusiasm will surely lure you to a non-stop head banging. Songs like "Severe Suffering" is one of the best tracks on the album that you may be stuck with it for some time.
Esecially for fans of Cannibal Corpse is highly recommended.So for those who are seeking for a death metal album without any special techniques but with plenty of Brutal feeling, then here you are. The baby is born. We wait to see how it will grow and build its own unique character.

Italian death metallers Humangled returned with new EP two years after the release of Fractal (2010). Lyrically, the band makes an attack on social hypocrisy and lack of moral and musically approaching marching boldly into new sound fields with emphasis on technical and progressive techniques.
In their new work there are refrences to NWOBHM in various parts of the EP that make it sounds unique and also has a very wild sound. Listen to the aggressive guitars on "Needles of the Blind", the technical approach to their best piece "Skinned, to Feel All" with great changes to pace and intensity of music creating a great song, find the wild beauty of Humangled through Punk illusions of "Deny Your Creed". The only somewhat indifferent piece of "Odd Ethics" is the track "Smells Acrid". If they manage to create an album and include pieces on the same level as "Skinned, to Feel All" then we can easily talk about a disclosure.

The Death Metal style and Sweden are always and will always be linked. The mine from where bands blade tip is huge, is something any fan of extreme Metal know, so that the constant appearance of new formations that continue the legacy that once carved Entombed, Dismember, Carnage, Grave, etc. not surprising anybody.
CORROSIVE Carcass is one of those "new onset", and put it in quotes because despite publishing his first album at the end of the month in which we are, this Scandinavian quintet formed in 2004.
In "Composition of Flesh" start stomping through thirteen tracks of pure Swedish death metal with old school flavor that you both like but with a fairly modern sound that makes us enjoy every detail with clarity and cleanliness.
Tracks do not show us anything new, wild rhythms in the high speed queen by his presence, an aggressive throaty voice tinged with a constant battery that does not rest for even a second, low noteworthy and finally, a bright guitars discharge all their adrenaline and anger through a rich variety of bass riffs and powerful their flag at all times the sound of CARCASS CORROSIVE.
So if you enjoy bands Swedish old school death metalera, CORROSIVE Carcass and his first work "Composition of Flesh", you will go back a few decades ago with his raw, powerful, fast and above all, good music making.

The Abyss Records label presents a comprehensive and interesting menu for this summer if you're extreme Metal in the broadest sense. From old school bands like CORROSIVE deathmetaleras CARCASS, practicing formations to a savage death metal as others HUMANGLED through rock as ROCKING CORPSES.
Well, the band that happens now is SOUTHWITCKED, headed by former guitarist of SIX FEET UNDER, OBITUARY and Massacre among others such as Allen West. This training just to launch "Death's Crown", or whatever it is, their first studio album after a previous demo.
In "Death's Crown" will find nine parts especially heavy tracks with fast and thunderous, always with a serious and devastating sound. Poets Sven's voice is essentially deep and powerful, while the guitars have that taste of old American with a direct line as imposing as being accompanied at all times under a heavy presence that throws all the time. SOUTHWICKED slow rhythms combined with more rapid, typical American school, as their sound really dense.
Death Metal serious and heavy traditional style as classic as Yankee unoriginal. That's "Death's Crown", the first work of a band that will delight the most ardent fans of the genre.

ROCKING CORPSES. There would be no better name for a band with the peculiar sound that downloads this Finnish combo (which is practically impossible to find information) that launches 2012, through Abyss Records, their debut album "Rock n 'Rott". The truth is that coming from a label such as Abyss, not many people expect to find in this compact sound that we are in the.
And that sound is none other than a very basic melodic rock, with inspirations from all kinds of Rock, from different backgrounds and age. On cuts like "Up from the Grave" (the first song after the intro), opt for a leisurely tempo, some samples and a huge guitar distortion while, on the other hand, the voices are almost always clean (even some guttural at the beginning). "Necropolis" is a catchy and fast cutting, with musical touches very metalheads and excellent riffs which may give off a whiff ZZ TOP, in perfect communion with the interesting combination of vocal registers. On the other hand we find "For Better for Worse," a cheerful rhythm track punk rocker, a versatile guitar-work with a huge distortion, giving the song a very dark sound that goes hand in glove with the deep grunts , which give way to clean vocal lines in a catchy chorus and full of melody. Possibly this is one of the most elaborate of the compact, incorporating all the elements that create the essence. Blues cuts not lacking, almost Sludge, as is the case of slow, dense "Life for a Life". The other titles are happening, alternating in different ways using elements in their music, without much feeling, and although the ideas are good, without too much grip in the moments that should be more catchy.
ROCKING CORPSES offer an original, creating an interesting fusion of instrumental rock base, with touches of Metal, and also a combination of clean vocals and intense guttural. That said, the production is very dirty, giving a very classic sound to the album, also a certain density and darkness, which does not really fit too well with its more rock, but with its subtle side Death. Therefore, it should work a little longer to find a production that will help your sound, his two musical sides as well as working more clean vocals and further develop his compositions, but must take into account that only is their first round. Anyway, find something fresh and brave always good news.

Humangled are a band from Italy that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style that I would describe as being brutal death metal with a grindcore edge and this is a review of their 2012 album "Odd Ethnics" which was released by Abyss Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown into the music at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.

Rhythm guitars range slow, mid paced to fast brutal death metal riffs that also utilize some gindcore and thrash influences as well as some melody being thrown into the riffing as well as some soft and clean playing and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.

Vocals range from deep death metal growls to high pitched screams that have a grindcore feeling to them, while the lyrics cover gore and hateful themes, as for the production it has a very strong and powerful sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.

In my opinion this is another great recording from Humangled and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Skinned To Feel" and "Deny Your Creed". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Fetus Stench are a band from Sweden that plays a very brutal form of gore/death metal with a Swedish death metal touch and this is a review of their 2012 album "Stillbirth" which was released by Abyss Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a great amount of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast brutal death/gore metal riffs that have a Swedish feeling to them as as well as some melody being thrown into the riffing as well as a brief use of clean playing, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding death metal guitar solos and leads.

Vocals are mostly deep death metal growls with some high pitched screams being thrown into the music at times, while the lyrics cover gore and violent themes, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound to it.

In my opinion Fetus Stench are a very great sounding brutal death metal band with a Swedish edge and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Stillborn Son" "Severe Suffering" "Bashed, Defaced and Disfigured" and "By Butchery Divorced". RECOMMENDED BUY.

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

We, Fetus Stench, is a death metal band from Sweden. Having that said, we don't sound like our countrymen (the usual, Dismember/Entombed/Unleashed etc.) exclusively. We take inspiration from the US death metal bands as well as some of the grindcorers and the fastest black metal bands and mix it up to make something of our own.


2. How would you describe your musical sound?

Like a hybrid of the genres/bands I mentioned in the first question.


3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music/

Horror/death/gore etc. The usual, so to speak. We do, however, have some seriously obscene and disturbing lyrics on this new album. When people realize what they are about, some will definitely be offended.


4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

A drunken haze one winters night in Karlstad. The name was originally meant as a song title for my and Emil's (the drummer in Fetus Stench) old band, Slaughterous, and it was our guitarist, CF, who came up with it. The original title was "Dead Fetus Stench", but when Slaughterous dissolved we decided to borrow that title and make it into a band name, cutting off "Dead" before "Fetus Stench" with the intention of not having a band name to similiar with Dying Fetus. Looking back at it now it's fucking stupid and grammatically incorrect, seems like Fetal Stench would've made more sense. But hey, we're just stupid Swedes who love to grind fast as hell, not english teachers. We'd grind hot english teachers tho!


5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

The best show we've played so far was undoubtedly our release gig for "Stillbirth" here in Karlstad, with Vomitory headlining. That show was intense as hell and we had an awesome crowd. We play fast as fuck and when people try to headbang in that tempo, they usually break their necks. It's a sight to behold.


6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

Not at the moment, we've been offered to join some interesting tours but none have been perfect. When the time is right, and everything falls into place, you'll find us on the road.


7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?

The people we've been in contact with love it, and that's people from the states, europe, asia, you name it. The ratings we've seen for the album so far have been from 7 out 10 stars and above so it seems like people enjoy what we're doing. It doesn't really matter tho. If our albums get high ratings and if anyone besides ourselves likes the music that's simply a bonus, because we will never write music to please someone else, we're in this for the love of brutal and aggressive music. If we were in this to please others we'd be playing like In Flames music or some other bullshit. FUCK that. Hail death!


8. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

Well, Emil is the one who keeps himself busy with music pretty much all the year around. He is the drummer of Blood Red Throne so he's usually somewhere out in the world playing death metal. Our bassist, Kristian, is currently in the studio with his other band, Inferior (where he handles the bass and vocals) and they're currently recording their debut album. From what I've heard so far, it will kick some serious ass. Illern, our lead guitarist, is sitting on his ass at home, playing Modern Warfare 3 and I'm just writing music for Fetus Stench exclusively. I have no intention of joining/starting up another band in the near future, I'm satisfied with where I'm at right now.


9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

The next album will be way darker. "Stillbirth" is an album on which the focus lies on brutality and catchy songs, it wasn't intentional and just happened to be so. The follow up will be something nastier, and of course better on all accounts (production-wise, songs, artwork etc.). We don't decide on how an album should sound like before we write it, but the songs that have been and are being written at the moment have a darker sound, something that will be noticeable throughtout the next record.


10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We've been influenced by the topmost aggressive bands and the ones who play the fastest as well. If I had to name-drop a couple of em' it would have to be Vomitory, Dismember, Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed, Bloodbath, etc. It's primarly death metal, but as I said, we take influences from black metal and grindcore as well. That's something which will be obvious in the future.

As for what we're listening to now nowadays I'll have to answer for myself as I'm not sure what the others listen to when they're by themselves. We're always blasting death metal when we're hanging around but I'm almost sure that the others listen to Lady Gaga or some other revolutionary artist when I'm not around them. I've been listening a lot to the new Dying Fetus album, "Reign Supreme", recently. That one is going down as one of the top 5 albums of all genres this year. I've also been revisiting the album "Rise To Dominate" by Aeon which is awesome and the album "Assassination" by Krisiun, the Brazilian kings ov thunder. I've been listening a lot to Opeth the last 1-1,5 years as well.


11. How would you describe your views on Anti Christianity?

Learn the sacred words of praise hail satan!


12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Me and Kristian are passionate fishers. Emil is an experienced bananaplanter and Illern just sits on his ass, playing Modern Warfare 3. Beer is a common interest! Not for Emil tho, he likes Coca Cola.


13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast Swedish style death metal riffs that are a little bit more darker and heavier than most bands in that genre with some melodies being thrown into the riffing as well as influences from American death metal, while the lead guitars are very dark sounding early 90's style death metal guitar solos and leads.

Vocals range from deep death metal growls to high pitched screams that bring a grindcore feeling to the music, while the lyrics cover death and gore themes, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.

In my opinion Corrosive Carcass a very great sounding Swedish death metal band that are more heavier than most bands from that region and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Butchershop" "Awesome Nuclear Power" "Chainsaw Dissection" and "The End Of Us All". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Flesh, flesh, flesh. What a wonderful thing it is. Flesh, gore, and blood are things that have been manipulated countless times in the metal universe, and little surprise there; it's one element that simply wants to be grasped by scores of bands. Especially when the matter is Swedish death metal, and when bands can't find anything to talk about other than ghouls and zombies, vivisection, dissection and butchering seem like very appealing lyrical subjects, and whether you're bored of the same gore laden lyrics or not, let's admit it, the plasma creature with numerous flesh webs sticking out of its bodice is a pretty cool armament for Swedish slaughterers to use to boast their mighty heavy churning of old school Swedeath. It's another Swedish band, another list of blood-dripping caustic songs, so I ask you, what the hell is special about Corrosive Carcass and their brand of infinitely duplicated Swedish styled death metal? Nothing, if truth be told, but besides a few bands, this is the best imitation I've heard all year, and I'm aplomb that you'll find the scathing turbulence of the music pleasuring, if not wholly convincing.

This seriously is a complete composition of Dismember/Entombed worshiping, but then again, what band that engrossed the similar chainsaw textures didn't gimmick? Sure, there's been bands that added a twist of melody there and a hint of black here to prove to be more efficient and more original, but once you have such a cunning barrage of corpse-mangling, buzz laden violence, one can only care. Something that restores the energy here is definitely the length of the songs. Almost each song is as fast as a grindcore piece and as rambunctious as spiking thrash attack, and the intensity serves as a viable instrument to behold and set loose the immense plethora of fury driven riffs that reek of old school, and of course, flesh. Even the track titles seem as if they were written by some mad butcher, or some serial killer, as the album bears titles like ''Chainsaw Dissection'', ''Twist Of Knife'', ''Butchershop'' or ''The Flesh Is Not Enough'' which are so obsessed with murder and flesh that they seem more laughable rather than taken seriously. Over the thirteen songs on the album, only a couple of tracks show slight variation with different pacing of a few elements to garnish to the aura of the record, but as a whole, you'll find nothing but pure crushing insanity and horror obsessed death metal monstrosity.

''Collector'' has to be one of the more efficient tracks on the record, dealing twice as much pain as any with its near five minute length and sheer force that comes untouched, and some distinct aspects hidden in the brief clean guitar medley near the end. ''Composition Of Flesh'' is vulgar and abrupt in every matter, but that doesn't stop it from attaining a decent level of musicianship throughout, as I find the mass explosion of crunchy riffs to be as stamina draining as they are shattering, and the subtle melodies to be well composed and well placed among the other riffs. Yes, the path of the flesh is set, and set well I would say, but now, it's totally up to the tissues that form it to either thrive it further, or drown and distort it with their rancorous vibrations. And this album remains as one of the numerous pieces that are linked together in the formation of the flesh, and a robust piece at that.

Now stay with me (look at the score if you must) but I have to say that by the time I get to the first few seconds of the second track on Against All Odds, Ireland’s Eternal Helcaraxe have managed to tick three of my pet hates (remember, stay with me, they are so worth it). Firstly what is it with Tolkien and black metal bands (apart from the fact many vocalists sound like orcs…)? It’s about as Christian-centric a mythos as fantasy gets outside of C S Lewis or Elizabeth Moon. Secondly we have the great moody, atmospheric intro that doesn’t feed into the first song, it just stops and the song starts and they have to build the atmosphere all over again. Thirdly where does black metal stop and pagan metal start if you ignore the lyrical stylings?
And the title didn’t fill me with hope either.
OK I’m off my soapbox now and on the clock.
This is the debut full length from Eternal Helcaraxe and I doubt you will find a more assured debut in 2012 this side of Agruss. Seriously; the (well placed) confidence on show here is a joy to behold. Musically they play a style of black/pagan metal that is so epic that it would have Amon Amarth and Turisas looking over their furry shoulders and might even be given a spin by some of the most courageous power metal fans, and yet it retains the gnarly, thrashing, battering soul of the mother genre, thank the gods. Kind of the black metal cousins of the fellow Irish doom inclined Mael Mordha.
After the lovely, melodic into we are kicked into ‘One Still Stands’ which launches a great emotional and epic guitar hook that really does conjure an age of heroes before the snarled vocals come in and the song dives headfirst into some black metal styled attacks. It seems a bit sudden but you quickly get used to following the lovely fluid guitar melodious in and out of these parts. You see at their big heart, Eternal Helcaraxe are a supremely melodic, but not sickly or cheesy, pagan heavy metal band. The vocals are straight black metal, apart from a couple of sections of clean singing which they could think about using more, and they do blast and thrash it up a lot but these songs ride in on great melody and wonderful hooks.
‘Invictus’ is a bit Amon Amarth, yes, but it is still a glorious uplifting song, with a sweep of cinematic, vista opening keyboards just to add the technicolour. Whereas in contrast the nicely titled ‘We Assist Death’ is much more of a howl into the storm until the lengthy guitar lead out. The epic title track shows a narrative grasp that adds depth but never loses sight that this is a song to be played and drowned in. There is complexity as well as hooks so the songs have room to grow as you explore them which bodes will for the longevity of Against All Odds.
These guys do like to batter and howl, make no mistake, but their grasp and use of these huge heroic slabs of melody on songs like ‘As The Snow Gathers’ shifts the band into a whole different genre. I notice that they have shared stages with some high profile black metal bands but they would equally be at home alongside Amorphis, Immortal, Moonsorrow, Tyr or any of the bands mentioned above. They already have their own identity and there is not a single weak composition on this album really.
This is an exemplary debut of melodic, emotionally heavy, chainmail hard, heroic black metal. Fierce, fist pumping, headbanging battle torn stuff. All this and not a fiddle in sight. Against all odds I’ve fallen for this album big time.
Eternal Helcaraxe demand and deserve your attention, oh aye and your money. Get out and buy it. Here’s hoping they get to play in the UK mainland sometime soon.

I must state up front that I've got a little bit of a bias towards the sound of an album like Composition of Flesh, because it seems as if these Swedes sat down with me and probed my brain to discern exactly what I'm seeking in an 'old school' death metal record. Like being examined by the mental health board at the looney bin. Upon first exposure to the guitar tone, I was a little worried that we'd be getting another direct bite off Entombed, Dismember and their countrymen, a trait I and many others have likely grown some 'fatigue' over, but that turns out not to be the case. While the raw level of putrid distortion might in fact draw a degree of inspiration from Corrosive Carcass' national forebears, they clearly bastardize the aesthetic with elements of US veterans Autopsy, Obituary and (early) Death, with some archaic Finnish sounds (Demilich, etc). The result is nothing short of an all-purpose, dynamic descent into the umpteenth layer of horror.

Composition of Flesh fires on all bony cylinders, strong songwriting skills enshrouded in a tumescent state of eternal darkness. While the band is certainly sniffing along a breadcrumb trail of nostalgia, I never had any sense that they were 'limiting' themselves to any particular palette of necrosis. They incorporate blasting, grooves, and mid-paced rhythmic variation without ever dropping the ball, and they can harry the listener into rapt, fearful attention throughout the entire 41 minutes and 13 tracks of the experience. Deep, dual rhythm guitars grind like a pestle in a mortar of flesh, while the leads are eerie, atmospheric, and never indulgent to the point that they exceed their welcome. The bass feels like a depth charge riddled with beefy distortion, and the drums, while strong, are set at a level which supports the voluminous axe-work. On top of this, you've got a damned solid vocalist in J. Sjöblom whose inflection falls somewhere between a Chris Reifert and L-G Petrov in style. He barks, he growls, he sounds like a pack of hell hounds and pit fiends melted into the psyche of a mortician drunk on formaldehyde fumes.

Lyrically, the band is deceptively simplistic, but I found myself really drawn into the perspective of tracks like the serial killer hymn "Twist of a Knife" or visceral and suicidal "Self Mutilation". Nothing novel as far as the imagery being described, but they certainly evoke an ardent sense of psychosis that matches well with the riffing architecture. Speaking of which, while I can't award points here for much originality, but the Swedes function exceedingly well within the parameters they've established. A few guitar progressions, in particular some of the tremolo sequences, are admittedly generic, but in general I feel like they know how to mix up the selection and keep the listener's focus, whether on a brief burst like "Avatar" or the more extensive finale "The End of Us All", which is close to 8 minutes. There are some amazing moments of atmosphere like the moody intro to "Collector" with its numbing bass and creepy, cleaner guitars, and I would have loved if the band could have more evenly dispersed these through the track list, but otherwise its spot-fucking-on infectious. Combine with the sheen of opaque, drudging production and wallow in the album's gore soaked oblivion. It seems we've been spoiled this year with all manner of fantastic retro death metal recordings, and you can add to this the stockpile of Horrendous, Necrovation and Binah on your next sepulchral excursion.

Verdict: Win [8.75/10] (the shadows guard me well)

SOUTHWICKED (U.S. / Europe) "Death's Crown" CD review by autothrall

I probably won't be the only person that looks upon the cover of Death's Crown and thinks to himself: 'Confederate death metal? Yesss!' Alas, I felt a bit of disappointment that this was not entirely the case for the debut of Southwicked, a Tampa area band featuring former Obituary and Six Feet Under guitarist Allen West, and a surprising number of Belgians. On the other hand, this is about as close to the 'classic' Obituary sound circa Cause of Death and The End Complete that you're going to get, so those pining for the primordial aggression of those promising years will find themselves in very familiar terrain. Whether this is a good thing or not really depends on just how much you want to hear more of the same, because there are very few embellishments on the style here, just an honest, well rounded session of skull crushing grooves performed by one of the niche's very own forefathers.

I was expecting this album to open with the thunder of Civil War cannons and the screams of dying and fighting men, but instead was caught off-guard when the band pulled out a sample from the schlock 80s horror film Shocker, before launching into a loud, lumbering sequence of open drudge chords and groovy bass hooks with a bluesy lead on top. Before long, though, we're in total flashback mode, the rhythm guitars chopping along in patterns which feel like mere variations on riffs West performed decades ago. The major difference, though, between Southwicked and either of West's aforementioned alma maters is vocalist Sven Poets, who has this deep and ominous guttural drawl redolent of bands like Incantation. Far closer to Chris Barnes than it is John Tardy, he really lets his intonation resonate through the mix and adds this brooding sensation over the music that gives it breadth and dimension, which helps the rather average slew of riffing progressions sink a little easier to the palette.

Otherwise, the production on this thing is quite a good fit for the churning of numbers like "Graveyard of Bones", "Craving for Blood" and so forth. The guitar tone is eerily reminiscent of Allen's older albums, but I enjoyed the fluid and fairly live feel to the drums. The polish on the bottom feeding bass-lines which throb under the chugging monoliths. As for the writing, it's decent enough to sweep you up into nostalgia for those years you first heard Slowly We Rot or Undead, but I had hoped for a more distinct conceptual character. The riffs are heavy, but never exactly evil. More of the band's bluesier excursions would have worked wonders here, or perhaps some folksy rock guitars to give it a more 'Southern' feel, as some might have experienced on that Tardy Brothers side project. Instead, most of the atmosphere is created solely through Poets' timbre and the weight of the guitars, which just aren't that fresh or impressive. Ultimately, there is nothing necessarily 'bad' about Death's Crown. It is what it is, but perhaps the customary Obituary bits hold it back from evoking its own identity.

Verdict: Indifference [6.25/10]

Swedish Death/thrash is the official characterisation of Septekh, this EP is their second, alongside one demo that the band have put out since their formation 4 years ago. Whilst the opener ‘Fuckslut from Hell’ may lead to preconceptions of their sound, it is thankfully not the raw bestial black thrash mess that is usually associated with titles of such a strong description, far from it. Septekh brandish a sound and aggression like that of old Witchery, certainly the guitar tone and the melody, a simple but effective opener. ‘Shoot Them All’ sounds like more straight forward thrash metal, but with a thin sound usually associated with black thrash whilst ‘Not Quite What I had In Mind’ (is a perfect decryption for this release actually!) is more like Deathhammer, it is very fast thrash that has a gravely growl in the vocal. I preferred this when it had more of a blackened thrash aspect as the drums sound rather thin and could do with some better mixing.
I find this EP confusing, there is no one particular style, and it’s almost like they have not decided what they want to play. Take ‘Eating the Maneater’ for instance, This has a massive amount of groovy, almost bluesy death metal, not quite death ‘n’ roll, more like that of that long defunct Swedish band 2 Ton Predator’s release ‘Boogie’. Therein lies my issue, for all the music is precise, entertaining and perfectly executed, I cannot help thinking that this release reeks of a band that have not decided on their application, their style, thus you think you are being entertained by a multi band compilation album. I would have imagined the EP to have more of a theme to it, especially with the title, and I don’t really see the relevance of the album cover.

Upon first listen of FESTER's "A celebration Of Death", I still didn't know how to describe their sound. First off, don't worry. This is no "Shoegaze, avantgarde, post-modern Metal" or anything like it. It is not a new NAKED CITY either. But there is definitely a Black Metal background here, which relies on the raspy vocals, almost a trademark of the aforementioned sub-genre. What FESTER accomplishes fully in this, their third full-length release, after an 18 year hiatus, is atmosphere. The whole album has a crawling, creepy feel that infects your brain slowly, but successfully. Their brand of Death Metal is heavily infused with Doom Metal and may I dare say some Sludge / Stoner, due to the raw production. Their guitar and bass tones are thick, aided by a good organic drums sound. The whole album has that 90s feel, since the band never really gets on full speed and backs up into a mid-paced, reminiscent of early ASPHYX. The depressive guitar melodies and the shifting of heavy guitar riffs and pounding bass stand out. This album runs for a full hour. And maybe that is its only drawback. It gets tiring and somewhat boring if you are not fully into it as a complete voyage. Most of the songs get to the 6 minute mark effortlessly. And the formula is repeated good inside this thing. Even some of the songs possess a great groove and others have a vocal shift from the obscure style, onto a full on Death Metal blast. This is a good album if you are looking for different music, yet still heavy and crushing.

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Rocking Corpses is a fairly new band and just now releasing debut album called Rock 'n' Rott through Abyss Records. The whole idea was to combine rock, death metal and various horror themes. The trio consists of Tony D.K., Leper Laze and Vile.


2. How would you describe your musical sound?

I think the sound is a combination of the aggression and balls of death metal but also harmonies and groove of rock. Vocals have two main styles with low guttural death metal grunts and cleaner rock stylish vocals mainly in choruses. Also the gain in guitars have been toned down a bit to bring out the rocking side of the music.


3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music/

The first album Rock 'n' Rott is a theme album telling the story of one zombie crawling out of it's grave and rocking out in a city. So the main theme is horror but black humour is also a big part of the lyrics as well. The first album is about zombies doing crazy rocking things but in the future there will be other horror themes also.


4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name/

I think the band's name sums up pretty well what we are all about, rock, death, corpses, zombies, monsters, etc. It's also pretty funny name when you visualize some corpses rocking out but for me it's a strong and coarse name too.


5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

So far we haven't done any live shows. In the studio I played all the instruments and we haven't rehearsed all the songs yet with our new drummer Vile, who btw did all the artwork for the album. All the guys have played many shows with different bands and I think it will be great to do shows with Rocking Corpses when we are ready. It will be energetic and crazy rockin' gigs.


6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

No plans so far.


7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal?

The album is going to be released on July 13th so there's not that much feedback yet. Maybe for rock fans the death metal side of our music may be too much but for a death metal fan, i'd think our stuff will be something new and exciting. A fresh breath of putrid air.


8. Are there any other musical projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?

All the guys have different things going on too but Rocking Corpses is a solid unit and not just a side project. I also play in other bands but all my creative energy goes to Rocking Corpses.


9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases/

Now with an amazing new drummer we can maybe explore into more extreme death metal also. Without forgetting the groovy rock, of corpse. Also the sound will certainly evolve with future releases as the drums will be real drums and not electronic like the ones I played on our debut. The lyrical themes will be more varied too and not concentrating only on zombies.


10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Maybe I'm getting old 'cause I find myself listening to so much blues and bluesy rock. Motörhead and AC/DC are some of my all time favourites but lately I've been listening a lot of stuff like Clutch, Joe Bonamassa and finnish band Viikate. I also got really excited when I found Ghoultown. Their latest album is just amazing. Also I've been excited about Autopsy coming back with a great album! Other favourites are Pungent Stench, Necrophagia, Rob Zombie, Macabre, Entombed.. So many.


11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

It's pretty obvious in our music that I really love horror movies. Everything from classic black & white to new stuff. Laze has been riding motorcycles all his life but just lately I've been getting interested too. I bought my first bike last summer and now I've been thinking about buying a Harley. It's just too bad that the summers in Finland are so short..

With "Reflections of a Psychotic Past", RADIATION SICKNESS Americans released their first studio album after several demos, EPs and splits, other than a compilation work last year. This work also consists of "The Other Me - A Journey Into Insanity", an EP originally released in 1990 and remastered for the occasion.
This quartet of Indianapolis practice a Crossover / / Death / Thrash Metal Aggressive and raw, with a dirty sound that fits perfectly with what we want to achieve. And what they want is nothing to fear at different rates, ie you can enjoy from a cut death metalhead with a blistering pace as in "Tripping in the Seas of Madness", or listen to a slow and heavy as is "Demented Love Song II - Death Did We Part ".
The guitar riffs are generally heavy and serious, with a low battery audible and solid, while the voice of Doug Palmer oozes aggression and hatred in equal measure.
RADIATION SICKNESS offer a hearty serving of good songs that make you move and break your neck with the succession of brilliant riffs dripping with all the hate and anger in the world.

A great fusion of guitar shreds! Only 14 minutes and 50 seconds of full intensity. The riffing on this really makes this a winner in my eyes, it's a good attempt. This is death metal with some different things thrown in the music to try and keep things interesting. Definitely not a mediocre brutal band. Humangled has to be heard to be believed.

ETERNAL HELCARAXE (Ireland) "Against All Odds" CD review by deadvoiddream

Ireland has always had a great metal scene whether it was black, doom or death - and Eternal Helcaraxe are no different. Eternal Helcaraxe fall into the epic, pagan black metal metal genre. 'Against All Odds' is their debut and is very impressive for a debut. Fast, intense music with some well done keyboards that are nicely mixed into chaotic, violent black metal for a nice blend of traditional, fast black metal and parts of epic,pagan blackness. Guitars are blazing fast with some good riffs, drumming is fast blast beats with some mid-paced beats. The vocals are blackened metal screams but there are some really well-done and sung melodic clean vocals. It will be nice if the band uses more of the clean vocal patterns on the next recording as they seem to fit the bands style very well. Highly recommended to all fans of quality, pagan black metal.

Fucking death metal band from Sweden, they have that unique sound, violent skullcrusher band, many influences from Nihilist, Dismember and Carnage. In 2012 it is difficult to find something so brutal and direct to the brain, it surprises me a lot, very good production, all fans of nasty death metal will enjoy this CD .Unique distorted guitars that will destroy your neck from doing circular moshing, very good approach, no matter if you heard this style before, the important thing is to find bands that maintain the strength of the bloody death metal. An excellent album that should be heard. If you really consider yourself a metalhead, give this band a try. Get your beers and enjoy this excellent lethal work.

SEPTEKH (Sweden) "The Seth Avalanche" CD EP review by destructive-music

I get the distinct impression that this bunch of fuzz-loving death thrash ‘n’ rollers don’t take themselves too seriously. You want proof? Listen to the opening tracks from the bands new EP ‘The Seth Avalanche’ entitled ‘Fuckslut From Hell’ and you’ll have your answer. Incredibly silly but a delight to listen too, Septekh cite influences from the ever changeable Fenriz and Emperor to the more obvious Raw Head & Motorhead. Indeed it is a shame that this is only a six track EP as this catchy blend of filth laden riffs, sporadically fast drumming and a grime soaked vocal style really is very endearing. ‘Shoot Them All’ is a shout back to the earliest of Metallica in both song name and in sound whilst ‘Blunt Force To The Head’ is a slowed down beast of a song, heavy, venomous and crawling with ill intent.
In contrast to the previous track, ‘Not What I Had In Mind’ is a balls out thrash feast that is somewhat reminiscent to the UK’s own Evile. Featuring full throttle riff-age with some excellent break downs, this is a track that will have heads banging throughout. Hilariously titled ‘Eating The Maneater’ adds a vast element of groove in almost a stoner doom meets ‘Sacrament’ era Lamb Of God moment and has by far the most sing along chorus of any tracks on display. sadly there has to be an end and that end comes in the shape of the release title track ‘The Seth Avalanche’. Fast, raucous and spitting venom from the off, this is what you would have come to expect from such a down and dirty band. As a whole you won’t want to stop playing ‘The Seth Avalanche EP’, it’s catchy, fun and carries with it a real sting in its tail.

FESTER from Norway and it is a sensation that, after seventeen (!) Years of silence her third album "A Celebration of Death" was unleashed on humanity.
