I just stumbled across kind of a different-looking concert set for December. Don't remember seeing a thread about it here, so here it is. A luxury cruise liner from Miami to Nassau and back with 20 acts currently booked...

Hypocrisy
Morgoth
Krisiun
Belphegor
Six Feet Under
Sepultura
Possessed
Rotting Christ
Enslaved
Hackneyed
Sodom
Paradise Lost
Moonspell
Sacred Reich
Loudblast
Artillery
Kampfar
Solstafir
Soilwork

...and more to come. Sounds pretty crazy, if you can afford it.

Honestly, if I was in the US and had the money, I think I'd go. Looks like a lot of fun. Although, you've gotta wonder how expensive alcohol will be.

If I had the money I'd go there. Me and some of my friends are seriously thinking about saving enough money for Barge to Hell 2013/14 if it's possible. We are students so we don't have a lot of earnings in one month :P and we still need to buy a wacken 2013 ticket in august/september because we are missing Wacken this year too. It would be awesome to go to Barge to Hell some year! But still Wacken will always be my favorite I think, I would miss the atmosphere of the camping and searching for your tent when you're drunk as hell, sleeping in a bed just doesn't seem to good for a metal festival for me.

I was at the "70000 Tons of Metal" festival this january, which is run by the same company, on the same boat, just a less extreme lineup and a different destination (grand cayman instead of the bahamas). I've been to literally hundreds of festivals over the last few years (the wackens, graspops, metalcamps, sonispheres & bloodstocks of this world, as well as tiny things in the depths of bavaria), and I can safely say this is the most amazing festival experience ever. I urge everyone to do it, no matter the cost.

Says the guy who was paid to go  I'm joking Christopher :-P I'm sure this is an awesome experience, with such a killer lineup how couldn't it be?

This might be my honeymoon. We're waiting to see who 70000 Tons of Metal announces for their cruise to decide but I'm thinking if I spend a bunch of money traveling I might as well see a bunch of kickass bands in the process. So far there's basically three bands I don't care for and one I haven't heard. Every other band I'd fucking love to see.

It's strange, I always see loads of "after reports" on the land-based fests, yet these metal flotilla deals come and go with nary a peep of commentary left in their wakes. LordOminous might be the only person I've seen mention attending any of them. Part of me --admittedly not the most serious part -- imagines that the ships sink every time.

I love the idea of these metal cruises. I wouldn't mind going to this one either.

I thought this was gonna be some full-on black metal cruise. but it just seems to be a cheaper version of 70000 tons.
the line up aint worth a postcard either so far.

That's a very nice line up. Shame I'm in the wrong country... and skint. Still, if these things keep going and growing something to keep an eye on.

dude you really need to lay off the bath salts. Maybe you should check that line up again. What would your ultimate line up include?

Ok it improves quite a lot with those other confirmations that the OP didn't include, and there are still many to come, so it could shape up to be quite something.

Awesome lineup. I actually just sent a mail to the organisers if they'd be interested in having my own band play(hopefully they will once they've spent their budget on these bigger bands :P) Chances are probably one in a million but worth a shot !

Yeah! Beautiful weather, getting to stay in a room with a bed, having access to 24/7 bars, restaurants, a casino, swimming pools, hot tubs and beholding the majesty of the Caribbean Sea while getting to watch 40 bands and hang out with a decent amount of them.

That's stupid!

To each his own, I'd like to do that if I had some money, the lineup is quite decent too, but shit's too expensive!

It's prohibitively expensive, I don't party much, I don't like most of the bands, and above all I absolutely hate big bodies of water.

It is very expensive. Even hypothetically I'm umming and erring about it (I know I stated I'd probably go, but then again...)

I do love cruising on the water, but the problem with something like this is that if it turns out to be awful (sound of the bands suck, people are arseholes) you've blown a lot of money, and it you can't exactly leave whenever you want to. I think it is a great idea, but perhaps there is a cheaper way to do it, there is something a little un-rock n' roll about dropping such massive amounts of cash on something like that to me.

There's been a few times in Australia where bands have just got a ship for the day - there is one "stage", and it is just kind of like a pub gig but on the water. Much cheaper, and perhaps a better idea.

This about sums it up for me. I can think of at least three other events this year I'd rather attend with better lineups that cost a fraction of the price this would come out to.

Also, OP spammed the exact same topic on a couple other forums I visit. As I said before, thinly veiled advertisement is thinly veiled.

Hey ORTAB, I retract my mockery. I read your comment and basically pictured someone frowning with corpsepaint on, hunting down fun at any chance. I've seen that sentiment and I roll my eyes at it.

I can sympathize. If the most awesome show ever was on top of a mountain there'd be no way in fuck that I'd go.

Well, I do hunt down fun at any chance so you're not entirely off. ;)

But, seriously, I have a huge problem with any metal fest or show that involves this level price of admittance or has exclusive rock star style bullshit like VIP areas, guest lists, etc. It just doesn't feel right.

Yeah, Napalm Death back in the 80s would have ridiculed this type of highly exclusive profiteering. I don't know what that says about their integrity. Probably not as much as I think it does. Make Way!

Not that great of a lineup besides Sodom, Moonspell, Rotting Christ, and Belphegor. A lot of people will be wasting their money to see hasbeens like Sepultura, Sacred Reich, and Enslaved.

Right, because metal has always been the sole preserve of the working classes, and the middle class have never had any impact on metal in any way.

Interesting that you put Enslaved in the 'hasbeen' category but not Sodom.

Well they are a genuinely friendly bunch of guys and this thing is a great chance to hang out with the fans and other bands because you basically can't get away from them, so there is that aspect as well despite the sheer cost of the tickets...

Personally I think the idea of a metal cruise is sorta hilarious on its face and I can't conceive of how it makes money. Maybe older metal fans looking to connect with the bands with wives who don't want to? The idea that metal is just now getting gentrified is even more hilarious to me. There was a thread on ILX almost a decade ago where some rockist types went completely ham. The original post was about how Shania Twain wore a Ramones shirt, which then evolved into a discussion over many years of other precious sacred cow t-shirts being worn by pop acts; Bauhaus and Killing Joke shirts on New Kids On The Block, Motorhead shirts worn by Twain, Madonna, and Missy Elliott, Mark McGrath wearing Suffocation and Venom shirts, everyone wearing Iron Maiden garb, etc etc etc.

Kreator's Endless Pain is older than most of the posters on this forum. That fate will probably befall Pure Holocaust or Transylvanian Hunger in due time. If that reality bothers you, quit now.

It has been rare that so many bands, so many of which were birthed in the underground and rose to prominence only by the love and support of thousands of small fans, have joined together for an event with such clear class bias; an event so crassly exclusive and exclusionary.

Meh. I remember years ago Krieg and Ibex Moon playing a show in Colorado outdoors that was invite only. They're hardly alone in that sort of act. Besides, its only exclusionary if you can't pay the money. At what point philosophically does that really enter the equation? This is metal, not booking Fugazi shows.

A private show for presumably friends and associates is a bit different than this. Were the invites advertised on the biggest websites they could find, available for any stranger who could pony up, cost thousands of dollars and require taking vacation for half the work week?

The phrase was used before, "prohibitively expensive". It is prohibitively expensive for the vast majority of people who have loved and supported these artists and their efforts for as long as they've been in the public sphere putting out their creative works. It does say something about their philosophy when they're ready to hop on board an event that, by it's nature, disallows even the possibility of participation for that same vast majority.

I'm sure most don't see it this way, fans and bands. Guess I'm touchy.

Wow, it is really really expensive, i don't have so much money for something like that. But the line-up is incredible, kinda surprised to see Sanctuary there.
