Whoa! sounds excellent. I specially like that slow part. It gives it very evil feeling to the song

This is excellent. This band just keeps on getting better with age. It's a shame I can't catch them on their next US tour.

What do you guys think!?

Not really impressed, I hope the rest of the album grabs me more.

I agree the title is really cool and I do enjoy Marduk with Mortuus, but he is best as Arioch with Funeral Mist.

Le Grande Danse Macabre was my favorite. I understand this isn't shared by most. I haven't cared for their recent work.

I would like to see the traditional Marduk logo on the cover. They have a pattern of putting tanks, disfigured angels and demons on the covers. I personally love the tanks! Nothing wrong with the cover anyway. I hope they speed it up a bit on this one.

Woven Hand eh? Maybe they've taken the orthodox movement into a Christian band. Decent cover.

Nah I recall reading an interview in Swedish with Morgan saying 16 Horsepower is one of his favourite bands, and "darker than 90% of the black metal out there".

'Souls for Belial' rips! I liked it much more than MAMMON. Nice one, now I'm excited!

Mine is Dark Endless but I like the majority of their releases (World Funeral being the exception). I'll give it a listen for sure.

Yeah, but it doesn't change the fact that the lyrics are overtly Christian. All I was saying is hat the orthodox movement and Christianity are two sides of the same coin, is all.

I love WH and 16HP, but I don't think I'd cover them if I supposedly stood for everything they don't....

Morgan has stated in some interview that bible is a huge influence for Marduk's lyrical themes and lets not forget that Funeral Mist is all about worshipping christian Devil, two sides of the same coin exactly. Cover is decent indeed, nothing special. Not very surprised to see Marduk covering a christian band.

Might pick this up. It took me a while to get into it but I've grown to really like Wormwood, on the other hand I really couldn't get into Rom 5:12. Out of the records I own by them Plague Angel is probably my favourite, Hangman Of Prague fucking rips. I also really enjoy Panzer Division in short blasts.

Just listened SS first time. Easily the best Marduk album since Plague Angel, after one listen. I'm gonna wait for my copy to arrive before another session but very promising stuff so far.

Sounds like a continuation of the direction taken by Wormwood. Perhaps a bit more straightforward this time.

Hands down Serpent Sermon is fucking awesome. I thought Wormwood was pretty good as well but this is much better.

I've tried twice, and I just can't sit through this. I'm not sure what it is this time, on Wormwood I felt like they took the Funeral Mist thing too far and it didn't really sound like "Marduk" as such, that isn't an issue here, it's blasty, it's fast, it's clearly a Marduk record, but the riffs just aren't exciting me at all, and neither is Mortuus. I'm finding the constant breaks into ambience and simple slow Bah Dah Bah Dah Ba Daaaaaaahhhhhh riffs while Mortuus groans to be exceptionally tedious, and he uses a shit load of repetetion too instead of the deranged sermons we're used to from him, it's not very exciting. ROM 5:12 remains my favourite Mortuus era Marduk album, at least the riffs were interesting on that one.

Serpent Sermon is an absolutely killer album. I've always liked Marduk but to me they have always been a "surface" band, by that I mean I never found any depth to their music beneath the surface of their music and image (does that make sense?), at least until Arioch/Mortuus (what have you) joined. I would say that Serpent Sermon is certainly their best work with him and Marduk on the whole has evolved into a band with much more musical depth than they ever had before. Definitely going to be in my top albums this year and I am excited to get my vinyl copy in the mail.

First impression is not very good. Why do they have to ruin all the fast tracks with those fucking boring slow parts? They don't sound creepy or ominous, just annoying. 'Souls for Belial' would be lethal if it weren't for that 'croaky' middle section.
What happened to having fast and slow songs separate like on 'Plague angel?
