I noticed their status on here has recently been updated to "split-up." Can someone confirm this with a link or something? I know they've been sort of MIA for a while, but it'd majorly suck if they were done altogether. I guess there's Voices to look forward to...

Last I heard when asked about a new album, the answer was "don't ask" or something like that. I agree fully that it would suck if they split-up, but such is the nature of this business

Even though I kinda saw it coming I still feel sad about this, they're one of my favorite bands and it really sucks if there's no new material on the way.

I think a moderator contacted one of the band members and received confirmation that they were split up.

If that's the case I'm curious if any further details were mentioned.

Yea, word on the street is someone here or somewhere talked to one of the members and he confirmed Akercocke is dead and gone. An official word from the band is still missing, but every sign points to disbandment, sadly.

A mod (he's from Australia, hint hint!) wrote that in the Mods forum, excuse me if I didn't had the right to post it, anyway.


Sucks, Antichrist was awesome

Bad news indeed! Although I think it is better for a band to know when to call it a day instead of dragging it out and tarnishing their legacy. If they felt it was right to stop then good on them.

They have a pretty solid legacy, if they think they've done all they can then I have no problem with it being over. Better no new material than bad new material, and they could always make a comeback sometime later.

Akercocke are incapable of releasing bad material. It wouldn't just suck if they broke up, I'd be a wreck. I've already lost two of my favourite bands in the last few years, I couldn't cope with losing another one. However, If they do return, I honestly believe they have one more album left in them, something fast but also atmospherically spacey with a heavy amount of keyboard being used, a natural progression if you will.

Glad I managed to catch these guys live in 2008, they were a force of nature on stage.

Met someone at uni who had drum lessons from their drummer who told me they'd split, way back in 2010. Really sucks, one of my favorite bands. Antichrist is really great.

Well last time I talked to David Gray, he said that he didn't know what was up, and that whether Akercocke would split or not would be up to Jason.

Fuck! Yeah, I was talking with a friend of the band and although he didn't 100% know, that's more or less the vibe he was receiving.

This really does suck hard! Never listened to a death metal band with a more unique, classy and refined sound. I'm sure they had some more music left in them as David Grays side project Voices sounds very reminiscent of Akercocke. Oh well, heres hoping they'll reform at some point and continue blasting for Satan

Glad I got to see them at Festival of the Dead, although I didn't like them at the time and sort of ignored them because the sound was fucking terrible and giving me a headache. I think it was the band who played beforehand that ruined the sound for their set. Still, I witnessed a few of their songs, so I'll always have that if this is the end.

A real shame that they broke up. I would love to hear a follow up to Antichrist, that album kicked ass. Even if they're done, they did leave us us several awesome albums. I wish I could have seen them live.

If Mendonca doesn't return to music, at least he's got a super solid IT resume..

Nice find! Always wondered what he did for a day job. Not surprising really, given the amount of IT people who are also metal-heads.

Pretty interesting that he has had a successful and probably very busy IT career for years, yet still put out a bunch of fantastic albums during that time. Since it's obviously so rare that someone can make a decent living from extreme metal, it's neat to learn what they do otherwise. I live a weird double life in and outside of the music business too, so stuff like this fascinates me.

I agree, it certainly is fascinating to me what metal musicians do as day jobs.
