I never could get into Ozzy's vocal stylings, a cover song could keep what I want (the songwriting) while also getting rid of what I don't (the original vox), and I was thinking of compiling a list soon of the best Sabbath covers, so can anyone here help me out with some good examples?

I think Ozzy's vocal is perfect for Sabbath's sound, but I get why some people don't dig his voice. My favorite cover by far is Kyuss's "Into the Void" (Exhorder's version of this song is pretty cool too.) Crushing stuff:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyyoNnQEpSc

Mogwai's cover of "Sweat Leaf" is pretty, uh, different:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q72na528kLo

Also dig Neurosis's cover of Children of the grave:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI_ps1iSl-I

Some other good covers are: both Cathedral and Ulver "Solitude", Corrosion of Conformity "Lord of this World", both Slayer and Orange Goblin "Hand of Doom", Bongzilla "Under the Sun", Sepultura "Symptom of the Universe" and Black Label Society"Symptom of the Universe". I'm kind of embarrassed to say I like System of a Down's cover of Snowblind (probably because of nostalgia.) Don't think that any of the covers I've heard beat the original, those first six albums were pure fucking gold.

It would be interesting to hear black metal covers of early Black Sabbath, if anyone knows of any.

Type O Negative's cover of "Paranoid" is godlike. Also, Faith No More's cover of "War Pigs" is pretty good too.

Oh yes, Soundgarden also did a great version of Into the Void, with alternate lyrics:

I always quite liked Wraith of the Ropes' cover of Black Sabbath- Kinda like a slower more creepy version. Pretty cool.

No one mentioned Brutality's cover of Electric Funeral?

Seriously dudes, what the fuck? You guys are slacking.

Also, Type O's cover of Black Sabbath brings on a completely different feel.

I can't find the studio recording, but it was done for a Sabbath tribute CD that came Metal Hammer a while ago. Anyway this live version is pretty sweet.

I always thought Corpse's "Zero the Hero" absolutely sucks, but Type O's "Paranoid" is majestic, and I totally dig Pantera's "Hole in the Sky" and also "Planet Caravan". Now, bash me, everybody.

This. I don't care much for the Exhorder version, but this Kyuss one is awesome. Adding the percussion section was a nice spice, as well.

Cathedral's cover of "Solitude" is a close second.

I failed to mention Apostle Of Solitude's rendition of Electric Funeral. Great cover.

Doom's cover of Symptom Of The Universe is awesome, although it's never been released as a studio recording (it's only on the Live In Japan EP). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-at86JPL14

Tarot's cover of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" is pretty solid.

I know but "Worlds most consistently badass Polish Death/Thrash band" doesn't roll off the tongue so well.
