I don't listen to standard black metal that much, but I absolutely dig that atmospheric black metal kind of stuff. Stuff like Lunar Aurora is pretty intense, and Skagos must be one of the best bands I discovered in a long time.

Whatsoever, recommend me your favorite atmospheric black metal bands if you have any. I'm ready to check them out.

A few bands that I like that are similar to Lunar Aurora would be Evilfeast and Paysage D'hiver. Both are extremely grim and cold, but also utilize enough melody to keep me interested.

For Skagos, there have been some great threads lately that have covered the Cascadian Black Metal scene and its derivatives. This one I found particularly useful: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=85221&hilit=cascadian, but a search of old threads will provide TONS of great bands to check out. Cheers!

There are many kinds of 'atmospheric', but my favourite atmospheric BM band of all time is Darkspace.

They're not "atmospheric black metal", but I personally think the black metal band with the most atmosphere is N.K.V.D.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KI4flrwZOvw

Check out Lustre or Spectral Lore, ambient bm is very great. Like another poster said, check out the older threads and the help threads.

Paysage d'Hiver's self titled demo is my favourite when it comes to atmospheric black metal. I'm no stranger to shit production, but it's particularly bad on this demo, so be warned.

Branikald has some good atmospheric/ambient songs, and the black metal songs are pretty awesome as well.

Branikald - На Волнах Вдохновенья
Branikald - Хладавзор
Branikald - By the Timeless Nightly Dusk

Branikald - Разитель Дух
Branikald - For the Aryan Lands (Yeah, he's a Nazi :/)
Branikald - To a Frigid Luminary of the Night

Surprised Blut AUs Nord's Ultima Thule has not been mentioned.

Very cold and wintery atmosphere with incredible songwriting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTQdWjMs_qA

Blood Red Fog is good for rather depressive black metal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju-q-Yh91jE

And for another very wintery one then check out Contra Ignem Fatuum. The EP is really good.

Dammit, Lunar Aurora was my first thought. Also try Chaosfrost, Summoning, Blut Aus Nord, Elffor, Forteresse, and Vordven.

Looks like a lot of people already mentioned these but I'll go ahead and second them...

Evilfeast- "Mysteries of the Nocturnal Forest" , Paysage d'hiver's S/T and Darkspace. Negura Bunget's-Om is a masterpiece more than worth your time.

No mention of Lurker Of Chalice? Otherworldly, distant, deep vacuum stuff.

Another one worth checking out would be I Shalt Become, especially the album Poison.

I'll also add the ever amazing The Ruins Of Beverast.

And thirding the SHIT out of Darkspace praise. A truly phenomenal outfit.

I'd better add some

Altar of Plagues- Neptune is Dead (atmospheric bm from Ireland of all places)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zi6znr0VOGQ

Funeral Mist- White stone (literally dripping with rage)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sEvANdjmp0

Stalaggh - Projekt misanthropia (the most fucking mental thing ever made, makes me feel sick)

To my understanding, all black metal is atmospheric. This is incredible broad. Do you want a wash of fuzz? A bunch of layered FX? A simple but haunting melody? I both cannot and will not be helpful here.

How about just posting black metal you feel other people may like?

It is a broad subject and highly subjective, that shouldn't stop you posting anything though.

Also some black metal isn't atmospheric at all :?

This

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmPaxFc8lqw

compared to this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKwC3M7PT9s

both are black metal, one is atmospheric, one smashes your head off

Because then there is nothing to discuss, we're all just posting random things that have nothing to do with eachother. No reason to even communicate.

To explain my reasoning here a bit more, I, and many others here, are very knowledgeable about all kinds of metal bands and would be glad to help people find specific things in which they have an interest, in the interest of being helpful but also of getting the right kind of metal to the right kind of people who want to hear it; a service to both metal and metalheads. Being that there are so many metal bands playing so many minute variations of every style imaginable... Broad, largely meaningless recs wastes that capability and erodes the interest knowledgeable types have in being helpful; it results in long lists of band names, the majority of which are likely to be completely uninteresting to the person making the request and with no rational given for anyone reading the thread to check them out. It all becomes so much white noise. Who honestly wants to or does check out every random youtube link in a random thread on a random forum? Who here wants so many metal bands reduced to white noise in a boring thread? Besides all that, long lists of youtube links don't make for interesting discussion, and talking to people is the whole point of a forum. "POST BLACK METAL BANDS" could be accomplished by a random band name generator.
