I'm quite shocked and disgusted. Tom Waits to GNR's?

One good album, two bloated with filler, and a terrible reunion album 20 years later deserves Hall Of Fame?

This can't happen.

Chinese Democracy was hardly a reunion album.

And anyway, at one point they were one of the biggest bands on the planet who had a huge public split and ultimatums thrown about claiming the original line-up would never play together again. Seems like a good PR stunt to try to get them to play together again.

well, RRHoF has always sucked.

1) Guns n Roses are (were) about a million times better than Tom Waits
2) Uh, not sure if there's another point, so I'll just restate point 1, that they're way better.
3) Nothing last forever, not even cold November rain

I'm down if they can get the original lineup playing again, simply put. They had some really fucken good songs.

GNR are/were a more important with regard to rock music than Tom Waits. I don't like either, but it makes sense... they were massively popular in the late 1980s/early 1990s. Hell, they can still sell-out stadiums in most places, too.

1) Your sources are 100% inaccurate.
2) See above.
3) Indeed.

I love Tom Waits, but I can understand why someone wouldn't get the appeal. I understand why their being inducted. They're one of the most popular rock bands ever, and despite quite a lot of shit material they have released some absolutely classic songs. Just as a side note, I really lost a lot of respect for Slash when he played with Fergie at the superbowl, but hey, guess everyones got their price.

If inclusion in a Hall of Fame is about...well, being really famous...then yeah, I'm surprised they hadn't been inducted years ago.

I remember how big they were, it just seems really soon i guess.

Is Leonard Cohen or Motorhead in there?

The Hall of Fame is hardly Rock and Roll anyway. It's a joke now to be quite honest.

I really like Appetite For Destruction but I've always wondered why the four instrumentalists didn't just bother with another singer or something. Maybe I'm biased in my dislike for Axl Rose, but Izzy Stradlin has always struck me as being the guy who it's not Guns 'N Roses without. He did so much for the band yet Axl and Slash are the ones that get the publicity.

That said, I'm still curious to see how Slash's next solo album will turn out now that Myles Kennedy is singing on the whole thing.

Rush is not in the RRHoF and it's the only fact I need.

Also, yeah, Waits has like 15 great albums compared to one good by GNR.

YES

This issue with the hall of fame, is that it really only reflects album sales, trends and/or who recently died. There are thousands of bands that deserve to be in there more than GnR (Rush and several blues players are great examples), a band that released a handful of semi-decent tracks which were blanketed by a constant bombardment of filler bullshit. More to the point, it sucks that these dudes get any sort or recognition that is compared to some great all time musicians, when GnR are simply just a bunch of greedy arrogant self-entitled washed up douchebags.

And whoever said that GnR is better than Tom Waits:

1. Open door
2. Stick neck in doorway.
3. Slam door.
(Post Script) - Fuck you.

I dislike the band a lot anyway, but I think a lot of that hate is toward Axle. Can't stand him or his singing. On top of that, Appetite For Destruction is one of the most overrated albums of all time. I actually like the Use Your Illusions somewhat, but they're also hit or miss.

Also the fact that King Crimson and Deep Purple are not in the R&R Hall of Fame, but Aerosmith is, confirms it as a joke.

Exactly!

Isn't Appetite one of the best selling album in history? Of course Tom Waits is Great(er), but that's besides the point. Guns have sold more records and are more widely known. And you really can't deny they have a lot of classic songs, rock-wise.

And the band is an influential and important act, even if you like them or not. Could have been worse it could have been Motley Crue!

Define "a Lot", cause most people don't even know anything other than Welcome to the jungle or Sweet child o' mine

"A lot" to the public is maybe 5 songs in G'n'R's case. Hell, I know more good songs from that exam album UYI 1 and 2 than I do from the debut. It's just sifting through the filler on it is exhausting and not even that worth it. As for this HoF stuff, we shouldn't even care, really.

Appetite for Destruction is the best damn hard rock album ever recorded. There's maybe one weak track on that album. The next two were overblown but have a good amount of classics between them. The last fiasco didn't happen in my fantasy world. Honestly, maybe I have some rose tinted glasses since their first few albums were a huge part of my musical development during childhood, but hell they're first ballot hall of famers in my personal hall of fame.

With that said, the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is a fucking joke and I have absolutely no respect for it nor will I ever until A) The asshole in charge is no longer in charge and B) Rush, KISS, and Deep Purple are inducted. I've been there, and was completely disillusioned upon leaving. The only worthwhile thing there was the big wall that every inductee signs. Have you ever seen Stevie Wonder's signature? That shit is hilarious.

Guns and Roses where one of my favorite bands, now, I think they have a decent amount of good songs, Appetite for Destruction was a great record, but thats it, I don't really care who gets in or out in the Hall of Fame :-P

By the way, the Hall of Fame is the same organisation that only "allowed" Black Sabbath in once Ozzy basically told them to go fuck themselves, yet would allow Madonna and rappers in. That's just the tip of the iceberg since there are others that would deserve an induction if it were legitimate. It's the same mentality as the shitty Rolling Stone magazine. It's not rock 'n roll, it's pop culture trash. Nobody on this board is under the illusion. People who are honestly into rock and/or metal shouldn't even pay attention to it, the same way they wouldn't if Nicki Minaj started calling herself the pink-wigged heavy metal cunt.

Bah, it just pisses me off. Somebody with a deathwish out there, strap some dynamite to yourself and buy a ticket.

In my fantasy world, I'd induct Guns 'n Roses only if a band like Nirvana gets in. Are we going to be snobby or more down-to-earth about this? If Nirvana gets in, Guns gets in without a doubt. If they don't, then sorry band-that-had-one-album-worth-a-fuck. I guess I just don't have a hard-on for them like others do.

Tom Waits said it best:

"I am still recovering," he said in a statement. "I never really cared about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...but now I am surprised to discover how much I DO care. I'm wondering if I did something wrong?"

He's in that thing now, so what's the issue? I'm no fan of Neil Diamond, but since he was inducted the same year as Tom, does that devalue Tom's work? It's like bitching about GnR getting inducted and not Mercyful Fate...who cares?

And PhilisophicalFrog is right, it's in a city where the fire department was once called to put out the fucking river.
