Megadeth doesn't work as an unplugged band for me. I like them when playing scorching metal, the way it should be.

The fact that "Megadeth unplugged" exists is further proof of Dave Mustaine's unrelenting stupidity.

The guy is a great musician, and I even like UA and Endgame (don't care at all about Thirteen, though), but his sanity shut down completely a long time ago.

They've been doing it since about Youthanasia time, I think - It sounds okay to me, but it's not something I'd ever take over the originals. My taste in Megadeth is slowly receeding towards the first-four albums again, but I expect it'll blossom sometime in the future, They're the first Metal band I owned CD's of, and listened to frequently, so I can't escape my love of them.

Dave Mustaine makes it really hard for me to love Megadeth sometimes.

I don't see a need for them doing Unplugged. That is not why thrash exists at all. Quite the opposite, really.

Well that was a terrible. I could kind of see it working if Mustaine didn't completely suck as a signer, but he just can't carry this type of thing.

Why the need for the big drumset, too? It's not like he is going to go apeshit on it....

That was pretty terrible, laughable really. I don't know if this was an attempt to make the music sound lighter or ore intricate, but the acoustic guitar doesn't have the sustain needed for these metal songs, and it sounded really amateur and unbalanced, like a bunch of teenagers were doing sloppy arrangements of Megadeth Songs. Whatever he wants to do I guess I have no say in... I thought he could have done a lot better though.

just watched a bit of angry again, sounds exactly like the song without distortion, and dave's voice is even more noticeably out of tune without any white noise to drown him out. i'll pass on the rest.

i remember seeing an interview with dave a few years back, where he said he writes all of megadeth's riffs and licks (even for SFSGSW and RIP, etc) on an acoustic. i always figured he was just talking shit - you couldn't play, say, poison was the cure on an acoustic, let alone write it.

People actually paid to see Megadeth unplugged? Did they know it was going to be unplugged or did Dave trick them into thinking they would see a real set? :boo:

some music just doesnt lend itself to unpluggedness. Megadeth is a perfect example. Megadeth "unplugged" is an nteresting but fatally flawed concept.

Curious, i never thought of something like this. Acoustic Thrash? But, i'm the only who thinks this sounds good? It wasn't horrible.

Well, there's a band called Rodrigo y Gabriela who did a Latin-influenced (!) acoustic cover of Metallica's "Orion". Not bad, not great. The idea might have worked depending on what songs they picked, but honestly, Dave just can't pull off acoustic songs with his voice.

Rodrigo y Gabriela are excellent. They've covered a lot of Metallica. Get hold of Live in Japan if you can, it's excellent.

I'll watch this properly after work tomorrow, but from what I've heard, I agree that Dave's voice doesn't work for this. Though playing Hangar 18 on the nylon strings is great fun. I'd have loved to hear them do that song. Or hell, just a whole 45 minute set of Rust in Peace.

I thought it was pretty good. I mean if you like the song, then you like the song. The only real possible problem is it being unplugged. I for one like how the acoustic guitars sound and think that they did justice to the songs.

I'm with Fort. I mean, who doesn't want to hear Holy Wars in acoustic. It's the next logical step in their career.

At this point the next logical step for Megadeth is to play a live set at the RNC. Closing out with Holy Wars would taste of only the most delicious irony that Dave himself would be oblivious to.

It's not about the lack of amplification, but about the fact that thrash just doesn't sound good when transferred to acoustics. It's not fit for it.

:durr: oh my god....the first link is a thrash metal song by a band from my home country and the second link is an acoustic reprise of the same song by the same band AND IT SOUNDS GOOD....and you still need a fucking explanation? Seriously? No wonder you got a public warning on the FFA thread...twice.

I disagree, and more importantly, I'd be willing to bet Dave Mustaine disagrees. Mustaine wrote the songs and decided to play them acoustically. If he wants to play his music through acoustic guitars he can and that doesn't by any stretch of the imagination mean he is stupid.

Those guys have thrash albums? I'd definitely be interested in hearing such a dramatic change. The acoustic stuff reminds me of a more mainstream song structured Tenhi.
