Hi, i'm looking for songs/bands that camon create a dramatic feel in ballads, and with a clean, preferably male vocalist that just inarguably rules.examples of this would be:

Iter Impius
Pain of Salvation

Sonata Arctica, Last Drop Falls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5u95_2z3FY

Dream Theater, Space Dye Vest
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O4_C68PmFI

In my opinion the best song of the past ten years, This I Love by Guns N' Roses

Pain Of Salvation - Iter Impius
Not just a piano but still, beautiful:

'The Eldar' by Blind Guardian. Totally great. 'Bleed' by Angel Dust isn't a ballad, but it has an awesome piano part that drives the song.

THIS.

Also "Sisters" by the same band. Daniel Gildenlow knocks this shit out of the park on a daily basis.

Lots of Nightingale songs fit that bill, with Deep Inside of Nowhere being a particular standout. Fantastic and stunning piece.

These are all quite good. Iter Impius by Pain of Salvation, however, is amazing. i updated the original post to include it, so if anyone else knows of other songs with this type of feel and format, i would love to hear them. Love that song, the build-up and dramatic ending are exactly what i was looking for.

^ Also, Judas Priest's Epitaph.

There is a piano in this one, but it's not based on it like I guess you expect. Regardless, it's one of most touching ballads about love I know.

Try also WASP - The Idol. Has a dramatic and climatic ending, which is awesome.

You might like The Pax Cecilia...Piano is not the sole instrument, but the build up is definitely there!

'Christmas Day' by Shadow Gallery. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I get goosebumps every time I hear it.

I'll also second the recommendation for Blind Guardian's 'The Eldar'. Hansi delivers some absolutely stunning vocals in this song.

Enjoy!

"Sea of Whispers" by Eternal Tears of Sorrow

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eCAdBtteFc

It's a pretty melancholic song, so the drama that hits in the bridge is still "softer" than you would expect, but within the context of the mood, it fits well.

The superior Shadow Gallery tune: "Alaska"
