Okay, I know I'm not a mod so I can't personally speak for them, but I always thought it would be a good idea to give the site mods moderatorship over the Suggestions and Complaints forum as well. I've seen a lot of posts like this one since I began lurking, where one of the site mods asks someone else to lock the thread. That's a sort of roundabout way of doing things... I might be missing something, but wouldn't it make more sense to give the site mods the ability to close threads themselves?

I'd like to add another suggestion that is sort of related.

At the moment, the color for site mods, forum mods and administrators is all the same. No way of telling them apart, so it would seem strange for Alhadis, a site mod, to ask for a thread to be locked when his name is the same color as a forum mod who would have the power to lock the thread.

Instead, perhaps different shades of a similar color for easier differentiation?

Administrator - EE000F
Forum mod - DF3300
Site mod - CE2244

Not sure about the OP, really, but I like the idea in the second post. I'd add yet another colour for "forum enforcers" (Metantoine in the Rec Central, and Zodijackyl in the Musicians forum), but I don't know if phpBB is that flexible.

Derigin, halp? :)

I think it's a good idea at the start, but I think a little more moderation from the forum mods would rule out said problem.

Also, I vote blue for the enforcers colors :-D The colors are a good idea, it will be less confusing.

I support this idea too... and I admit it'd be handy to be able to lock threads instead of waiting for for a site moderator to spot it and drop the padlock.

The list of forum moderators could be merged into global moderators. For the regular user there is no difference between them.

What is the difference between an enforcer and a regular (forum) moderator?

So I would assume mods who have privileges in only one particular subforum.

Can you change the enforcer colour from blue? It's absolutely hideous.

Agreed, blue really doesn't fit the colour scheme... Maybe try #8a885b.

What the hell are enforcers anyway? Are they inferior to moderators? Ideally you would want a sort of colour scale that reflects superiority. If admins are gold and moderators are red, the best thing to do would be to make enforcers red and shift moderators to orangey red.

Read Bastardhead's post ahead. But this blue is quite flashy compared to the others.

Ah well, he was right, Me and Zodi are mods only for a designated forum, inferior to the other forum as you said. Always thought the rec central was a ghetto who could get some more moderation ;)

So if enforcers ultimately have the same privileges/powers as forum moderators do, why not use the same colour for both? I can't imagine a user would ever need to differentiate between an enforcer laying down the rules and a board moderator laying them down.

I'd say we have enough tiers of authority as it is, flashy colours aside...

I agree actually. I didn't know that they were functionally the same. This colour code should be for users anyway. Staff already know the staff. Therefore:

HellBlazer - B09000 (administrator)

ogmetal - B05000 (global moderator)

failsafeman - CC3322 (forum moderator + enforcer)

The_Internet - 992222 (site moderator)

Shutdown - AD6854 (nobody)

Then don't. There's enough colours there to play around with. It's better than the rainbow crap on display right now.

I still think the administrators should have their own colours. If someone has a problem with a staff member then they are the ones to talk to.

I'm confused. What is Shutdown doing outside of the video game thread??? Did someone give him the key to his cage?

The only cage was my boredom with the rest of the forum. But now the rest of the forum looks more appealing than that one thread. Perhaps 99% of my posts from now on will be in Metal Discussion. Who knows?

But seriously, do something about that blue. It's painful. Really painful.

If possible how about removing the long ass "Moderators: Nightgaunt, Morrigan, failsafeman, Esoteric, PhantomOTO, Derigin, MMisantropo, HellBlazer, Napero, OneRodeToAsaBay, ogmetal" at the top of every forum/thread (and when posting a new post)? People can just go here for that info, it just looks way more distracting than it already was now with the colors.

On the topic of colors, does anyone know why PhilosophicalFrog's name is brighter than the average user? I'm just curious.

Non-mods' names (along with most other links on the forum) turn from brown to apricot once you've clicked on them at one point.

There, now all forum mods are red, all site mods are orange, and admins are sorta-gold. Everyone happy?

Well I'd like to give an opinion, I still consider that the idea of using the colors is interesting but sorry to say that with these groups/colors I can't figure out what's the point/importance behind it. Well for me to make sense they should be divided into the following categories:

Global moderators: the users that are simultaneously moderators on the main site and on the forums: Nightgaunt, failsafeman, PhantomOTO, Derigin, MMisantropo, HellBlazer, Napero, OneRodeToAsaBay, ogmetal, Morrigan

Site moderators: the users that are only moderators on the main site and not on the forums: Evenfiel, Abominatrix, Alhadis, Azmodes, Caliginosity, Corimngul, Crick, Demenekan, Dexter, Doomsday, emperor_zola, Fulgurius, GuntherTheUndying, Gutterscream, GVOLTT, Helvede, McMoney, PiotrB, Porman, Radagast, sofeshue, Stormrider, The_Internet, Uncolored, Witcher

Forums moderators: the users that are only moderators on the forums and not on the main site: Zodijackyl, Metantoine, Esoteric

With these groups it's more clear, simple and at least not confusing.
