Metal is an astoundingly compatible genre as everyone probably already knows. With bands incorporating all kinds of unusual sounds into their music. Finntroll and their bouncy almost carnival-style fun, to the drunken piratey adventures of Alestorm....Now what I want to know is if any bands have come out with anything crazier than that. I want to hear some genre or theme that I would never even think possible to combine with metal.

Stuff I have already heard that even slightly pertains to what I am thinking of
- The trolls (Litvintroll, Trollfest, Troll Gnet El, etc)
- Necrogoblikon
- Resistant Culture

Awsome suggestions so far
- Hevisaurus
- Naked City
- God of Shamisen
- Stovokor
- Shangren
- Desperados

Ahh yes Mr. Bungle, have checked them guys out on a few occasions. Certainly unusual, one of the oddest I have seen. But they sound a bit too experimental for my tastes.

Hevisaurus is pretty unusual, because it's like melodic heavy metal, only directed specifically at children. Maybe that's not exactly what you're searching for, but it's like Barney got all badass, grew long hair, and got an awesome back-up band with Baby Bop on keyboards.

BTW- I think this band actually rocks pretty hard. The lyrics are all in Finnish, so I can't understand any of it, but then something like a metal cover of "The Ants go Marching" comes on, and you figure out what's up. There's some quality power metal musicians involved in the project too, I give their material a big thumbs up. My kids will be listening to it :P

Perhaps not an overtly Metal band, but definitely one with Grind influences is Naked City (as well as Painkiller).

Fucking nuts!

Mike Patton has performed live with Naked City as a vocalist, actually I think.

PREPARE TO GET FREAKED!

Van Canto fuses metal and accapella. Doesn't get much weirder than that.

Van Canto is also awesome. They're more than just gimmicky. Pretty talented in their own right with some of their original material. Definitely a very unique experience.

Gronibard sounds like weird electronica, circus music, and pornogrind all fused together. Really weird vocals. So good.

You should also check out !TOOH!

...like a blend of epic/melodic heavy metal, grindcore, death metal and soundtrack music with avant-garde and technical overtones? You'd probably like 'em, OP.

Tooh are great

You should check out a band called True.

They are a death/black metal band witch incorporate folk elements and have a member who plays the tambura but less folk more metal its kinda of strange.

Also Contrastic very strange grind act, thats probably about the best description i could offer.

Van Canto - strange indeed, pretty good for modern classical style stuff. Not enough metal for my tastes however.

Leeches of Lore - Granted the sound quality on youtube is horrible...I cannot really hear anything to far from metal...sounds like southern metal with some kind of punk mixed in. Certainly does not mean it is bad, it is pretty good stuff, just not quite weird enough from what I have heard.

Headkase - Pretty sweet, that organ or whatever that is just makes the rest of the band sound so much heavier.

Gronibard - Not hearing anything to strange from them, but that is some nice brutal stuff right thar.

!T.O.O.H.! - They are pretty cool, they had so much more potential though. I really would have liked to see them produce more material. They do have that experimental sound to them (I do not know how to describe it), the only other comparison I can make is Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.

God of Shamisen - That instrument sounds so cool, I think I have heard it in some other death metal song, I wish I could remember the band...I will try to think of it. It sounded like a mix of that and a Ukelele (sp?). Also lol at their videos, guy in an Emperor shirt jumping around judo chopping the air :P

True - Love the instrument, sounds like that Shamisen of ^...do not like the black/death metal behind it though, although the vocals do get cool at times.

Constrastic - Strange indeed, I do not even know what that is O_o...alien DJs maybe?

If I interpret your first post correctly, this looks like the type of thing you are looking for: http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=62658

Not sure if this is weird enough, but try Shangren:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp5XpSIF6sc

Mix of Chinese folk (I think) and death metal.

Stovokor - nice, Klingon death metal is surely 'out of this world' haha pun...but in all srs bsns they are good when really blasting, but I do not like the melodic interludes. In searching them I also found a band called Wargsang (that did a song called Stovokor) that I am loving (bagpipes rule)

SPAZZTIC BLURR - There is definitely weird, but where are teh metulz?

Shangren - Badass, lots of potential here. Liking what I have heard so far.

I'm not really sure if this is the kind of thing you're looking for, but Whourkr play some kind of crazy electronic-grindcore sort of thing which is interesting to say the least.

You can try Crotchduster but the genre-crossing mish mash is supposed to be satirical rather than something of any serious aesthetic value.

Aiumeen Basoa - High quality stuff. Rivals the best pagan metal bands, but it is not too unusual sounding.

Crotchduster - Wtf is this O_o

Crotchduster is basically a deathgrind Mr. Bungle with a Anal Cunt level of seriousness.

Check out Brainstorm from the Ukrain. They're fuckin crazy, not sure how to describe their sound, kinda like early death metal meets early Butthole Surfers noisy weirdness.

I guess they were too weird and all over the place t really be called strictly a Metal band, but they had heavy Crossover/Thrash leanings and aesthetics all the same.

So I guess now's a good time to point out that they have a MA page... and so why the fuck shouldn't certain bands I mentioned in another thread have them?

I saw them mentioned in another thread and can't find shit ("Brainstorm" is a fairly non-specific sort of name for a band)...

Do you have links to samples or (non-expensive/trade-friendly) distros wit anything from them?

Magnum Carnage - DM with bits of everything thrown in including goofy hipster scene corniness and, idk, speed metal or something. Latest albem should be up your alley.

There's also something else I have in mind but can't remember the name of. Will get back to ya...

Just found the 7" of these guys a couple of weeks ago, love it totally weird stuff seems a bit like a metal Zerokama great stuff.

Atomsmasher/Phantomsmasher are another strange project not exactly metal, but its a kind of fusion between grindcore (tons of blast beats) and electronic manipulation ala aphex twin or venetian snares. Veers between borderline unlistenable and surprisingly laid back.

I was thinking the other day about some crazy fusions and I thought about salsa (the tropical music genre, before any idiot comes along) with metal. Something like Slayer meets El Gran Combo or something. I doubt anyone would like it, but I'd check it out out of curiosity.

God of Shamisen reminded me of Whispered, a Japanese influenced band with Japanese instruments who are, strangely enough, Finnish. Lots of fun and it sounds like Ensiferum recording the soundtrack to Onimusha: Warlords.

My brother played me this one band Desperadoz which is Wild West themed metal, never looked em up again but it was pretty fun now I think about it.
