I really hate to be a stickler for what kind of genres i want and do not want to see reviewed, but it would be much appreciated if i could get recs for reviewers that don't ''taint'' their reviews list with black metal releases. Please do not be put off by this remark and my gratitude goes out to anyone that can give me these recs.

Could I enquire as to why you are searching for reviewers who don't happen to review black metal? This is a strange request, what is inherently terrible about people who have reviewed black metal?

As above, Dissection is the sole exception.

Nothing I can see at first glance, unless you count Mercyful Fate and Hellhammer. Also has a Darkthrone review, but it's for a demo from their death metal era.

Well according to the guy's profile he likes Dissection and Mercyful Fate anyway, so I doubt that matters.

Most reviewers have a broad musical taste and thats what makes their reviews quite good, so good luck..

How is reviewing the quality of works of a certain genre "tainting" something?

Dude just wants some help finding particular reviewers. So his request is strange to us, he recognizes this and doesn't ask for understanding, only assisstance.

This is actually intriguingly bizarre. His profile says he likes pretty much any metal genre and doesn't appear to have any black metal sentiment but for some reason doesn't want people who have reviewed black metal? Is this some effort to find the opinions of people who DON'T listen to black metal? I'm trying to wrap my head around this whole thing.

I don't think I have any black metal reviews written though it's something I've thought about every now and then. It's not a genre that I'm that immersed in and the albums that I would write about already have several reviews.

I don't quite have the data to do this precisely, because my dataset with review info only has genre info for the 3000-ish most-reviewed bands, but here are some reviewers with 50+ reviews for which I have genre info, of which no more than 5% are of albums by bands whose listed genre contains the word "Black". So these ought to be mostly the kind of reviewer you asked for. In order from most reviews written to least (but still >=50):

Empyreal
morbert
DawnoftheShred
Nightcrawler
PowerMetalGuardian
Xeogred
DeathRiderDoom
Radagast
overkill67
Demon_of_the_Fall
OSheaman
JamesIII
Twisted_Psychology

Yeah, I need to fix that. I suppose I'm still in denial to some extent...

Again, more great stats. I'm quite surprised that more than 5% of my reviews are for BM bands, I thought that I barely had any.

My data has you with 11 "Black"s out of 78 reviews for which I have genre info, for ~14% BM.

Bal-Sagoth
Cradle of Filth
Deathspell Omega
Dissection (Swe)
Forgive Me
Frostmoon Eclipse (Ita)
Marduk (Swe)
Primordial
Satyricon
Ulver

The percentage is so high because, despite occasionally pretending to be a regular reviewer, you only have a small handful of reviews. :P

Out of curiosity, could you clue me in on how many Black Metal albums I've reviewed? I have close to 1100 so I would guess that I've done at least 58 or so.

I've gotta ask Hells_Unicorn, how in the world do you find time to write so many reviews?

hells_unicorn, I have you with 53 BM reviews out of 997 for which I have genre info, just barely missing the arbitrary 95% cutoff for my earlier list!

ah I see, about half of those albums aren't BM, just the band tag. And it cuts my 105 or so down to 78.

Interestingly enough, for the past 3 years I've been inactive except for my day job. One of my band's co-captains and fellow songwriter had some real difficult times that put my musical endeavors on hold so I've been left with a bit more time for researching new material. Most of the stuff I've discovered during my time reviewing here will undoubtedly influence much of my songwriting as I have a habit of learning at least 3 or 4 riffs off of each album I review.

Visionary wrote:

You might want to confirm this with him, but I think he had a substantial number of reviews already written from the other website he writes on. Based on his newer reviews, he is still churning them out far faster than I have been for the past year.

Interesting, I had thought that I only had around 50 or so to speak of. That number will probably get a good bit larger as I still have 8 or 9 Darkthrone releases, the rest of Burzum's releases, and a substantial number of Marduk albums to hit, but the percentage will probably remain constant as most of my review challenge albums will not be black metal.
