I saw that thread of highest rated albums, and it thought it would be fun to see which are the lowest rated instead. 10 or more reviews would be nice.

Here are some of my suggestions, can you find worse?

Cryptopsy: The Unspoken King (13%, 22 reviews)
Waking the Cadaver: Perverse Recollections of a Necromangler (10%, 13 reviews)

yeah those albums really suck. Are there any worse?

Queensryche - American Soldier - 16%, 10 reviews (might be the lowest non-core album)

Also, wasn't there some famous Italian folk or power metal band that did a metalcore-influenced album that really bombed with the reviewers here?

That was Elvenking, The Scythe has an average of 29% from 8 reviews. Not actually that low compared to what has been mentioned so far.

I guess Killswitch Engage's cover of Holy Diver should be mentioned, it has an average of 27% from 14 reviews, a pretty low score.

I think it would be a more interesting question if one sticks to metal albums only, excluding all metalcore and related stuff.

Hey, when did we get 666 Satanic Army 666 off the site, good riddance, not metal.

Both of Rainfall's releases are pretty low, 27% from 12, 30% from 11.

Not an album but certainly a (formerly?) metal band, Keep of Kalessin's The Dragontower has 9 reviews, average 8%.

Um.. I'm hella confused that's what. I don't know why I tried to average the average. Hehehe..

Anyways the only other one I could think of was St Anger, which isn't all that low it turns out.

My guess was he was talking about Eternal Empire by Human Fortress. 6 reviews, 28%.

The Burning Red (with 31% from 6 reviews) and Supercharger (with 15% from 4 reviews) by Machine Head are heading in that direction. Especially after hells_unicorn stamped them both with the royal seal of gayness.

Strange how their EP has the same number of reviews, yet a 91% average.

I can answer this. Restricting our survey to full-length albums with 10+ reviews, by bands that don't have "groove" or "core" in their genre labels, there are only 7 with averages below 50.

1. Queensrÿche · American Soldier (10 reviews, average 15.9)
2. In Flames · Soundtrack to Your Escape (15, 37.933)
3. Slayer (USA) · God Hates Us All (18, 43.722)
4. Metallica · St. Anger (22, 43.409)
5. Burzum · Dauði Baldrs (13, 45.077)
6. In Flames · Reroute to Remain (15, 49)
7. Megadeth · Risk (13, 49.308)

There are your goats. No, wait, in metal goats are good. Your bunnies?

I'll ask the obvious. What happens when you remove the groove and -core filters?

What you did, harbringer, was find the mean rating given to the album if its 13 score was hypothetically determined by adding the sum of its ratings. This is the most useless information anyone could ever ask for. :)

Really? Ancient is one of the most inoffensive bands I've ever heard. They're certainly not GOOD but they've never done anything interesting enough to warrant that kind of hatred.

It seems that people are far more willing to support a hated album than knock down a loved one. With the best album lists there were heaps of albums (In the hundreds I assume) with ratings over 90 after 5+ reviews, but only one album with more than 5 reviews with a score under 10. I am surprised and intrigued by this stat. I love these things, thanks S_o_M.

I wonder which was marketed more...

I had never heard about this band before reading this thread, and naturally, after reading the two reviews, I was way too curious to not download it right away. Both reviews, on top of having the same 0% score, make the exact same very doubtful accusations: A) it is ridiculously technical, yet the musicians are sloppy, inconsistent and even the drummer plays "offkey"... and B) it is so forcefully brutal and non-stop lightning-fast in your face ("without the relief of a breakdown") that it becomes inoffensive... Rrrright. Sounds likely and convincing, guys!

Well, I've just listened to the album only once, but I can state without a doubt that both reviewers either didn't actually give the album a listen before reviewing it, are intellectually dishonest, or plain deaf. Not only is it actually quite good, but it has nothing they claim it to have too much of: it's not particularly brutal by death metal standards (let alone brutal death metal's), it's certainly not grind whatsoever, it's not covered in samples (it only has a few here and there), it has a reasonable tempo that varies quite a lot from song to song and within each song, and it's not oustandingly technical, either! Unless the age old vibrato on a high note in the middle of a regular riff gimmick qualifies as über technical, now? Ridiculous!

Ha, I actually think that it is an undeniably shitty album built out of every element of death metal that I hate, but I get enjoyment out of it for some reason.

Wow, you really must feel guilty about liking this album if you feel compelled to justify yourself even to the one guy on Earth (or this site at least) who tells you he likes it too!

Haha, I have this album on CD... not by choice. I got it in the Nuclear Blast grab bag from CMDistro. My thoughts on it were that, yeah, it was kind of bad, but it did have a couple of redeeming qualities, such as the synth ending to the album, which was the best song on the album (I hope I am remembering correctly). Also, if I am looking for something mindlessly fast and intense... it might serve that purpose.
