I need a recommendation on a metal song that talk about historical events like WWII, Nazi concentration camps, WWI, Veitnam, etc. I have to do a project in history class where I use slideshows of a certain historical event while playing a song that matches the slides.

I'm mostly looking for either the genre of Thrash metal or Death Metal and I need a song that doesn't use the words fuck, shit, etc.

Please help me out, I'd appreciate it.

Definetely try Dark Lunacy. They Sing about Russian Histoey, specifically the Second World War. They call thier style Dramatic Death Metal, it is melodic, and has violin, and cello parts in it. Very good band. Probably what you are looking for.

There is also the Pagan/Celtic Black Metal band Primordial. But it has clean vocals. They sing about the History of Ireland. This may not be what you need, but check them out none the less. Very good band.

We've mentioned world leaders from Russia, Germany, Japan and so on during the time of WWII (Russia=Joseph Stalin) so I guess I could give that a try.

Angel of Death by Slayer has to do with WW2 and is about the physician Josef Mengele who was a Nazi Physician during WW2 who performed horible, cruel experiments on the Jews in concentration camps. Due to the controversy of this song it might not bet the best choice but it all dependson what your teachers like, it would be a great song if they allowed it!

Try Hail of Bullets? They're a DM band that focuses on WWII, such as the war with Nazi Germany. A lot of their lyrics are about the battlefield, war, death, bodies strewn, etc.

Check "Ordered Eastward".

Alexander The Great (Iron Maiden) is an epic album finisher about the great Macedonian conqueror of Asia. The lyrics deal with him in an exceptionally precise way, although the music isn't exactly what you're looking for (lyrics can be easily understood though). Forget about this if it has to be something that happened during the 20th Century.

Where Eagles Dare (also Iron Maiden) deals with a British commando unit's operations during WW2 (for more info check the movie of the same name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_Eagles_Dare).

I always thought Through the Ages was a cool song by Bolt Thrower, which is the last track on The IVth Crusade. It doesn't focus specifically on WWII, but it does go through basically all the major wars of the last two thousand years. The vocals are more of a spoken word style, and the music is slower and fairly melodic.

Might not be what you're looking for, but you could give it a try.

Second this. You could especially use the intro to this song in your PowerPoint/slideshow.

You might also check out Sabaton. Pretty much every one of their songs are about war. Iced Earth has quite a few songs about war too, notably "Attila" and "Waterloo".

I can name two songs off the top of my head that deal with WWI.

The first being Vreid's alarm, and the second being Cryptic Wintermoon's Bonegrinder 1916

:)

Def check out Sabaton "The Art Of War" (great album by the way, if you get the limited editon version you get the art of war bookl free with it, originally written hundreds of years ago.). Prob one of the best war songs lyrical wise would be Iron Maidens "Paschendale" of Dance Of Death album (horrific first world one battle were around 750000 lost there lives, a couple of thousand died for every foot taken, very overlooked battle round the same time as the battle of the somme, look up the facts of the battle on wikipedia, would make a great exam report, the conditions they fought in, were trecherous, not a tree was left, just mud and water and bodies, and maidens lyrics sums this up to a tee!), lyrics are fantastic and very fitting and prob the best you will find. Sabaton's "A Price Of A Mile" of The Art Of War is also about the same battle. As already said most of Vried stuff, about Norway's involvement in the great war. Asphyx "MS Bismarch" (the great german battleship sunk by 3 ships of the royal Navy"). Bolt Thrower, especially "Those Once Loyal".

Sodom's Agent Orange is about Vietnam. Most of their stuff is actually. M-16 is another concept-ish album from them about vietnam.

This would probably work perfectly for your presentation.. has a very powerpoint background music feel to it:

Can't you just put a speech in the background?

Maybe some military marching music?

A metal song would be very contrived in this situation, IMO.

Maybe Wehrmacht?

Slayer definitely comes to mind, Sepultura (more general though).

A lot of the work from Iron Maiden reflects on history, war, battles, etc. Especially their song, "The Trooper".

This is Death Metal but has swearing though it's perfect for what you're looking for:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkG6m64Js24

"The cold, dark wind,
Penetrates with pain
Across frozen fields
On the edge of the Ardennes
Black panzer tanks
Turn white snow red
Across the forest floor
The apocalypse spread
Weakened from the wait,
We push for the Rhine
German blood spilling,
Just a matter of time
The daylight raids
Left Dresden in flames
10 million more dead
All life is erased
Strong resistance,
Cut to pieces
Yes the Third Reich
Burns beneath us
Walking on the dead
Imprisoned here no more
Deceased to join the ranks
Of those who've come before
The Eastern Front will fall
Their legions crushed at Kursh
Such pleasure in revenge
Their blood shall quench
Our thirst
Fuck your world
Earth laid waste,
Russians enter Warsaw
All hope dies, total capitulation
Turn the tide
With a purpose so clear
We destroy them, extinct
No denial, just death
And a promise, of pain
Make them suffer, repent
Take their loved ones and kill
Fuck their begging, no mercy
Let them crawl forth, and die"

Dying Fetus ruled

WWI:
Motörhead "1916":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ngu4_bdlYOQ
no, it's not metal, but that makes it better for a school project, same with:
Eric Bogle "Green Fields of France":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUzQ6Am-bbc
Eric Bogle "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG48Ftsr3OI

If you must have metal you can try "March or Die" and "Bomber" by Motörhead, although they are not period specific.

There's also "1945" by Almora:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WxxAcTCA18
but it sounds better in Turkish:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shG6NQDu ... re=related

Came to post this. That's one of their best songs.

Now I know where you're from (precisely - the region). Θεσσαλονίκη?

To continue with the naming of newer Iron Maiden songs, Paschendale's namesake is a battle during WW1 which occured in Belgium, opposing German forces to a mostly British army.

Montségur is named after one of the last stronghold of the Cathars in southern France, a group of Christians deemed heretical by the pope and hunted down until their complete extermination during the 13th century.

The Longest Day deals with what happened exactly 65 years ago yesterday - namely, D-day, the Allied landings in Normandy.

When I saw this thrad first thing that I got in my mind was Sabaton.

Primo Victoria:
"Sixth of June 1944
Allies are turning the war
Normandy State of Anarchy
Overlord"

and also song called Talvisota. Not really death metal but its awesome anyway.

Another one would be Sotajumala but they sing in finnish :S

This. I actually had to do an analysis of this song for my European Studies class this year. Definitely a good one for a project like this.
