Does anybody know any good bluesy metal bands? I recently have gotten into Danzig and am wondering if anyone knows any other good Blues Metal bands, if that's what it would be called, that are the same style as Danzig?

Mercyful Fate's first two albums (Melissa, Don't Break the Oath), both have some pretty bluesy parts I'd say. Great albums over all also.

I would suggest some old-school doom. Black Sabbath's debut demonstrates a significant debt to blues and blues-rock, for example. Also, Pentagram has always sounded fairly bluesy to me. Similarly, Witchcraft can have a bluesy sound as a result of imitating those two bands. I can't say that I hear any blues influence on Mercyful Fate, though.

Thanks for the help. Now that you mention it, Ozzy era Sabbath is very bluesy. I recognize the name Pentagram but have not heard much by them. I will definetly check them out as well as Witchcraft. I checked Amazon and they have a couple of Wichcraft's cd's for not too expensive so I might order a couple of those next time I order some cd's. Also, both of those Mercyful Fate albums are classic's, both outstanding albums!

Savatage's Edge of Thorns is essential. I'm going to poison the well right now and say that you shouldn't listen to anyone who might come in here and tell you otherwise!

Hey thanks as well Empyreal. I do know some Savatage but not much off that album. I just listened to Damien off that album, really good song I'll check that cd out as well definetly. I just heard Dying World and Sign Of The Wolf by Pentagram and i have definetly been missing out. Great doom metal, definetly some blues influence too, I'll be trying to find some of their cd's and Edge of Thorns next trip to the record store or on Amazon.

I'd suggest Dio's Lock up the Wolves.

Pretty much any stoner/doom is going to be really, really bluesy. Check out Electric Wizard, Sleep, Kyuss, Acid King, etc.

Try Nightstick, they are very bluesy and heavy. Also try the song Terminal from Polterchrist, the beginning sounds like jazz/blues. Can't think of anything else right now.

Bedemon -- classic, cult doom.

Oxbow is really bluesy and arguably not even metal, but worth checking out.

You might like Pagan Altar. Especially Volume I. Saint Vitus, Witchfinder General, might be good bands to check out too.

Doom is pentatonic based, but so is a lot of nwobhm (but not all), except the rhythms are more driving.

This thread needs more Clutch.

_Robot Hive/Exodus_ is a pretty sweet album.

Also newer Orange Goblin has some very bluesy moments. Listen to "Beginner's Guide to Suicide" from their most recent. One of my favorite songs of all time. Don't get the impression that the rest of the album is that blues based though.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I've got a lot of new bands to check out now. I'll have to take a trip up to the record store sometime soon and see if I can find some cd's by some of the bands suggested.

Sons of Otis may also be your bag. They're Stoner/Doom metal out of Canada, and on various sites, i've heard that they have heavy blues influence.

If you've been in a Danzig mood, you should definately check out The Devil's Blood. Similar but with female vocals:

Their myspace

Tank has a tendency to write some bluesy, hard rockish riffs. Good stuff!

Not sure if this qualifies, (The band isn't easy to categories) but The Pope Of Dope & The Ministers Of Mayhem sorta sound bluesy to me.
