What's better than a song in which the subject matter is what we all love, metal? These songs that glorify metal in all its greatness are always interesting to me. I love to blast any number of songs from Manowar's discography and hear metal worship. So what are some of the best, and of course, your favorite, songs that extol metal for what it is? Any bands that focus on this almost exclusively?

Of course Manowar's catologue doesn't need mentioning any further; we all know their subject matter.

What songs do you play when you want metal worship? Sure, they can be cheesy, but they're great. Any genre will do. Please, don't just list songs or bands. Tell a little bit about the song or artist to stimulate some discussion.

I don't think this thread has been done before. I didn't find one like it, anyway.

Metalucifer, I'd say they are the most heavy metal band after Manowar. Just look at some lyrics:

"Heavy Metal Iron Fists, Heavy Metal bang your heads
Standing together, The crazy power is on fire
Riding on the sounding storm, Fighting for Heavy Metal"

or

"Defenders of metal speaking of merciless fate
Beware of the caterpillar, it might be in your back"

Hell the song heavy metal bulldozer is genocidal for the posers.

It's all about being metal, kill posers, heavy metal hunt and everything that comes with it. Just make sure you have some lyrics with you if you want to sing along. They're Japanese and after all these years, Gezol utterly sucks at english. Hell I'm writing the lyrics of their last album (have only the lyrics of the teutonic version - which isn't sang by Gezol - so I'm missing a couple of songs) and while playing the same song I was writing the lyrics, I first thought it wasn't the same song. Seriously.

Songs about metal actually annoy me, its a bit cringe-worthy when a metal band has to sing about being metal. Nevertheless, there's plenty of great songs about metal that i like, such as

Quiet riot's 'Metal Health', its just very elating and upbeat.

I know you've mentioned Manowar's extensive contribution to songs of this kind, but one of my favourites is 'Metal Daze', its very 'rumpy' (my word for upbeat/happiness inducing/exciting/cozy altogether in one)

In the song Metal of Death by Beherit, NHV stresses the importance of metal... of death metal of death.

The penultimate song in this category is obviously Usurper's magnum opus "Kill for Metal", in which they express the superiority of metal values over commonly-accepted moral constraints, such as killing posers and "making them pay".

Gotta love Piledriver's - Metal Inquisition

with lyrics like

So if you're in a disco or in a country bar
You better get the hell out, we know who you are
You better get some metal and play it really loud
You have the chance to join us, the mighty and the proud

AND

And if you're not a metal head you might as well be dead
We're the metal inquisition... We sentence you to death... by guillotine!

lol

The headbangers against disco split series is worth a mention too, with song titles like:

Baby Disco is Fuck (remake of panic in the head with changed lyrics)
"We rape you like crazy angel ! AH !"

Discodeath

"Disco party turns in to a bloodbath
You scream in pain, I just stand and laugh
I know you never will dance disco again
Metal - that's music for rue men"

Metal Attack

or

Beerz and Blood

among others.

Though the 7" are really rare unfortunately, the layouts seem really cool. I wonder if anyone knows if the material has been re-released there's no mention, probably not. Shame, I could have bought some copies a while back on Iron Pegasus, they didn't had them anymore.

"Heavy metal is the law" By Helloween is one of the first I got into. Its a bit TOO much at some parts liek when they are chanting heavy metal towards the end. But Some of the lines like

"If you don't feel it you won't understand"
and
"We need it as a liquid in our veins instead of blood"

are pretty sweet

Songs that spring to mind:

Half of Manowar's discography (Don't think you can stop me from mentioning them again, Mr OP person!)
Heavy Metal Mania - Holocaust
Heavy Metal Thunder - Saxon
Heavy Metal Breakdown - Grave Digger
Heavy Metal - Judas Priest
Celebrate - Doro
Whiplash - Some band or other
Whatever that Unleashed song is where Johnny goes "Death metal victory - no compromise!"

That'd be a good thing for this thread to not be a list one. Though it's true the discussions originating from the idea may be very thin.

Honestly I can't stand songs glorifying metal. It's pure wank. Metal masturbation, and I would rather do without it :(

Hmm that makes me think, wasn't Darkthrone's Canadian Metal about Canadian bands?

Well that answers the question:

(Trivia: "Sex With Satan" is a song by Piledriver, "Pyrokinesis" is by Sacrifice, "Take This Torch" is by Razor, "Whimsical Uproar" is by Obliveon and "Tortured Souls" is by a band named Slaughter.)

also off the same album are "The Church of Real Metal" and "Raised on Rock". so yeah, safe to assume Darkthrone like metal!

reading the lyrics to those songs, it's hard to compare quite to what was written on albums like Soulside Journey and Transylvanian Hunger.

Reverend Bizarre's "Goddess of Doom" is basically a song about doom metal, with a rather extensive list of bands...

"Saint Vitus and Trouble, Witchfinder General,
Count Raven, The Obsessed and Pentagram,
Solitude Aeturnus and Candlemass,
Penance, Revelation, Solstice and Iron Man,
Mirror of Deception and Pagan Altar,
Cirith Ungol, Exitus and Scald,
Internal Void, Paul Chain and Warning,
Unorthodox, Cathedral and Cold Mourning.

While Heaven Wept and Minotauri,
Dawn of Winter, Spiritus Mortis,
Electric Wizard, Confessor, Stillborn,
Solomon Kane, Orodruin and Mourn."

What this thread needs is Poland's own Open Fire and their wonderful speed metal anthem, "Metal Top 20".

I mean...the chorus is:
HEAVY METAL! HEAVY METAL! HEAVY METAL IS THE BEST!
HEAVY METAL! HEAVY METAL! HEAVY METAL! FUCK THE REST!

This, pretty much. I can stand Venom's "Black Metal" because it amuses me, but for the most part, a lot of metal songs about metal just strike me as silly and embarrassing to listen to. Some of the songs on Metallica's Kill em all sort of amuse me too, esp. "Whiplash."

What? Songs about metal are fucking awesome. Your opinion is incorrect.

Venom's Black Metal is indeed an awesome song, and another one which I don't think has been mentioned is The Book of Heavy Metal by Dream Evil. How can anyone not like these songs?

Heavy Metal... OR NO METAL AT ALL!!!!

Haha, too true. Death By Metal is also fantastic, even if I have no fucking clue to the lyrics, the fact that it's very likely the first instance of using death and metal in conjunction is important enough. Too bad it was only on a handful of demos, and later phased out from live sets with the rest of their Venomy stuff.

And who can neglect the devil's own Devil Metal?

A symphony of sickness - metal is the way!"

How is it no one could have mentioned...

Dream Evil - Book of Heavy Metal

I mean, the guy may have a high voice but he totes a sludge-hammer for the entire video, of which the cinematography is awesomely metal, not to mention the ability of that song to get every in the room all riled up into the mood for METAL.
It's a classic METAL anthem.

Helloween's Heavy Metal Is The Law would be my favourite.
Heavy Metal is the law that keeps us all united free
A law that shatters earth and hell
Heavy Metal can't be beaten by any dynasty
We're all wizards fightin' with our spell

Nothing to say here, really, the lyrics just speak for themselves. :)

Iron Savior - H.M. Powered Man is possibly my favorite. Their lyrics are usually about sci-fi stuff, but on this song they decided to drop all that and just write a total cheese fest of a song. As usual with Iron Savior, it's as generic as it is insanely enjoyable.

"I'm in a heavy metal powered world, that's my way to be
I got a heavy metal powered mind, I don't need conformity
No one tells me what to do, what to think or be
I'm a heavy metal powered man, right that's what I am!"

Agent Steel-Agents Of Steel

the chorus goes like this
Masters of metal, agents of steel
Masters of metal, agents of steel
Masters of metal, agents of steel
Masters of metal, agents of steel...

Metalheads by Unleashed is good, but maybe a little cheesy even by these standards. Still good fun when your drunk at a metal houseparty!
Can't believe no one mentioned Metalized Blood by Desaster yet! Excellent song, real anthem. While not strictly about metal, rather being about metal culture/being yourself etc, Raise Your Fist by Running WIld is great. I love songs about metal, and also songs about standing up for yourself and being your own person. The other half of Manowars Discography...
