What's the creepiest song you ever heard? I would say "Info Dump" by Strapping young lad, or Doomsday Celebration by Morbid Angel. A lot of Noise/atmospheric bands fit the bill too

Well, since this is the metal section, I'll keep this to metal, but Heirships by Portal always makes me think there's something creeping up behind me, the whole album has quite a creepy atmosphere but that one just has "something" which makes me feel like there's something there that wants to kill me.

I'm guessing more people will say Portal, they're kinda like the goto 'scary' DM band. :p

I suggest you to use the search function, this thread has been already done many times, you could find some good bands.

And deservingly so.

Anyways, I just recently revisited Khanate's self titled album and 'Skin Coat' is by far one of the creepier sounding songs I've ever heard. About midway through when the song shifts and the spoken vocals begin I start to feel very uncomfortable. Oh and insane lyrics to boot.

I'd also have to say Khanate: Too Close Enough To Touch gave me the creeps.

Other than that, I think Slayer's Dead Skin Mask is kind of creepy. I was walking home alone at night on a snowy, forested path near a graveyard and this song came to my mind.

Asmegin's Efterbyrden is creepy. A bit weird too with the baby crying and the violin. Such a great song, though. I always liked how metal bands introduced violins in the music. It adds emotional value to the music and here it gives it a creepy feeling.

I haven't heard much of their material, but Axis of Perdition seems to put out some pretty creepy music.

THAT riff on Chapel of Ghouls scares the beejesus outta me. It's just so haunting, literally!

Dead Skin Mask freaked me out the first few times I heard it, although I am somewhat desensitised to it now, through constant listening and dissecting the song while learning to play it on guitar.

This sounds a bit n00bish, but the first time I heard Lord Worm's vocals, I was creeped out to the extent where I had to listen to songs in tiny little bites because I couldn't handle it :P And this was after at least a year of listening to Death, Gojira, Morbid Angel, etc. I was used to grunted vocals, just nothing THAT extreme.

A lot of non-metal songs creep me out too, such as Throbbing Gristle's Auschwitz, Bauhaus' Crowds and Suicide Commando's Plastik Christ.

Cold Murderous Music by Carpathian Forest sounds kinda creepy to me
the soft music, the saxophone and the low in the mix vocals

DEAD CONGREGATION's - Martrydoom -an instrumental opening track of the album (Graves of the Archangels) has very dark elements with twisted riffs; creepy as hell... (in fact I would say the whole album itself, great stuff)

"Moon Shrouded in Misery Part 2." by Xasthur is pretty creepy sounding in a Diablo soundtrack type way

Thematic Emanation of Archetypal Multiplicity by Blut Aus Nord is a creepy sounding dark ambient/industrial/black metal album.

Most BM and almost all DM isn't really that scary...it is more likely to sound funny to me than terrifying.

Some of Marilyn Manson's stuff is creepy to me for some reason; for instance Cryptorchid off of Antichrist Superstar.

Braded Into Palsy by Infester.

Actually, anything from their full length. It is just a creepy, dark, evil sounding album. And it's fucking awesome.

Me too! Such a hauntingly agoraphobic piece. It's the kind of thing that is disturbing if you listen to it in the dark, or even just out of doors with nothing at your back. Especially if the day is grey and overcast. That might just be me. But to me the colour of the song is grey and when the environment echoes that it gets (even) more disturbing. I've heard of plenty of people associating colour with music but I'm curious as to whether people get the same colours. Anyone for this one?

A good example from black metal is Gloom (the Russian one). Their song "Evil Presence" starts as some nice, fuzzy BM, slightly catchy with a nice roll to it: and then those vocals come in. Higher than Silencer, higher than Nazgul, they are a kind of constant shriek/wail. It's pretty unnerving throughout, but whatever way that first, unexpected scream is mixed it sounds like someone behind you or nearby either in agony or the throes of bladder-draining terror. It's an incredible effect.

Generally stuff by Amaka Hahina and Moevot tends to be reaaaaaally creepy depending on the listener. The Choir of the Dead by Blut Aus Nord off the Work Which Transforms God is some chaotic, freakshow of a song in my opinion. Nostalgia by Nocturnal Depression that has this weird tone to me that is really unsettling and weird. Behind the Mask Obscure from Limbonic Art has a majestic, epic intro that could be considered creepy by some standards, but after the intro bit it loses it's creepy factor for some straight up black metal. Stuff by Silencer is considered by many to be "creepy", but the general populace hates the vocals.

Evoken and Esoteric.

Pretty much anything Funeral Doomish is creepy to me. Still an amazing genre though.

Speaking of funeral doom, Catabombs entire 'In The Dephts of R'yleh' album is very creepy sounding to me. Particularly 'Dead Dripping City'. Of the lovecraft influenced bands out there this song to me is the musical equivalent to the kind of atmosphere he created at times. In a word, terrifying.

Amaka Hahina's 'Meah Metreah' definitely deserves a mention. The only band from the LLN who I can stand to listen to once in a while. 'Meah Metreah' evokes such an intense atmosphere with minimal effort. Howling and hungry wolfs, a repetitive organ sounding instrument and a creepy voice in the background saying god knows what ... Excellent atmosphere, shame the rest of the album didn't live up to the first song.

Dead Congregation’s Voices and Graves of the Archangles (title track) are some of the creepiest songs I ever heard. Opening track Martyrdoom makes you feel like the dead are whispering in your ear. In fact the whole album has a pretty creepy and haunting atmosphere.

The whole Across The Heavens album by Maleficarum. If you're lucky to have listened to it, just sends shivers down your spine for the good part of an hour.

This. Some of its kinda creepy, some of its pretty creepy in a cheesy way (in my opinion; it often brings a smile to my lips), and some of it is genuinely weird and strange.

Plenty of shit is creepy.

The most recent thing I was listening to that I found creepy however, was Akercocke's My Apterous Angel.

Neurosis - Souls at Zero & Water is Not Enough.

The beginning of Souls just sounds creepy as hell to me.

And towards the end of Water when the keyboard and/or guitars or doing this feedback sound.

They also used the sound throughout A Sun that Never Sets album.

Great song, though not very creepy at all. It might scare you if you start the song too loud though.

The interludes on Pestilence's "Testimony of the Ancients" are pretty creepy. Nothing can beat Celtic Frost's "Danse Macabre" in the creepiness department though. That song is so fucked up sounding.

Not metal (or good for that matter), but Tool's "Faaipe De Oiade" is pretty scary and very uncomfortable.

The last time I listened to Comatose Vigil's "Not A Gleam Of Hope" before I went to bed, I didn't sleep. Jesus Christ that record is good.

I love creepy music, but I'm not intimidated by it. When I listen to Portal, Morbid Angel or Dead Congregation, I dive the deepest into their atmosphere and try to create the appropriated mental images. Dead Congregation is simply excellent for that, and so are Necrophobic (The Nocturnal Silence). Lunar Aurora's Zyklus is probably the best album to listen at night.

The only song that truly horrified me was "Lacerated Masturbation" by Gorgasm, but only because of that sample of a woman getting slaughtered. It broke my heart and the effects lasted for days.
