I agree with Jonpo. Largely it's one's listening habits and personal preferences at play. Listening to a CD once isn't going to really imprint anything onto your brain other than that first impression, which is rarely the best impression with truly good music. It's not going to leave you with the true essence of the album, that real effect that took so many wastebins full of paper or infuriating number of takes (or a really fucking good one) in the studio for the artist to convey. The more you listen to something the more you pick up those nuances.

I like that term. I ran into a 'dead end' with Death Metal, back in 97 or 98. I had already discovered all of the old albums that I cared to, in the years prior, and was very uninterested in anything that was being released by that point.
